The memories of FFXI, been so long since I've played.
Sky was the event LS stride for and it was the best place, even after 5 years of its release, to get some of the best armor.
I remember when you could farm sky in 3hrs for an entire Kirin set. Then as other LS came, it took 3hrs just to get one or two items to pop 1 of 4 gods. Then RMT took over sky. Then most sky came back after a few updates.
Remember fighting Genbu naked? RMT stealing. with bard songs?
Ok so it's march 2011. I was wondering , are servers still up? and more importantly, will I be able to party up starting from scratch? If anyone is interested hit me up, if not, a respond will be suffice.
@hitokiri657 well i am like 6 months late reply lol XD but yes people do still play, parties are pretty rare now, at least on Ragnarok they are, people mostly solo or just duo FoV(Fields of Valor) and stuff, because they're are so many leeches in Abyssea parties, people hardly ever do a 6-man party anymore which i think is sad

@hitokiri657 I stopped playing the game after 2weeks, It takes up too much time. And they make it so hard to be successful in that game; alot of people still play though...but it's not my cup of tea i'm going back to WOW

Oh wow. I forgot that this is what the gods originally looked like. They may look a bit odd, but I'm glad they did change their colors to make them look at least a little more, diverse.
1) i cant change the controls to my liking so I have to use what they already are and its akward.(may not know how so blah)
2) For someone just starting out if you dont know anyone, and you head into the game your stuck because it is 80% a group game so you either know people and join them or your screwed
FFXI (11) is 80% community and 20% solo gameplay. It's a very challenging MMO if you can't work together as a team with others in the online community, then you can't accomplish/experience most of the wonderful story line that the game offers. It's my favorite game of all time! People only disliked 11 because of all the extra prep work, research, and leadership constantly required to get things done. I'm sure 14 will have great story as well, but not as community-demanding as 11 is.
I wouldn't even say XI was 20% solo..It's waaayy less. After lvl 10 you couldn't do anything alone.
It sometimes was a struggle to get any help.You even had to team up to stomp out a little bunny. And teamwork wasn't always the key to accomplishing everything.I was patience in waiting for a 3 hr spawn in 3 in the freakin morning. All it mostly was about was people using other people in order to get the best gear or else other gamers would call you a noob.
im going to start playing this game, but do people still play it? and would a noob to the game be able to get by? i want to be a white mage but i dont wanna play all alone ;(
This game is by far the greatest MMO I've ever played. Check out some other vid's if your interested this is the old school game play and back before they changed the colors of the gods. I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends. I Just figured it was time to move on. :) Good luck to all who still play. Red Mage pwns all! ;D
FFXI is the best MMO ever made, know why? because it actually requires teamwork, plus the community in FFXI is alot nicer and more polite than the 10 year olds you find in WoW on LotRO

ahh i dunno, ive played alot of MMO's and in terms of actual design and promting skillful execution I would say that WoW is soooooooo much more demanding than FF, sure FF boasts stupidly powerful bosses that can all of a sudden 1hit most the team, but WoW requires all out concentration, very fast reflexes and the best bit, every boss is beatable you just gotta know how to do it and give it your all, and thats for every 25 people in the raid, 1 slip by 1 person can end it all

FFXI is just a set patern every time of "this happens you do this" the bosses are mostly kept to one position and tank n spanked with a few obstacles to get around, they dont use any nifty mechanics to make the encounters seem a bit more unique (for the most part) and at the end of the day... if FF was better designed, why does it have a much lower fan base AND they feel the need to make a sequel? They (Square) obviously dont think so it would seem? And you base WoW off P. servers... nice one
FFXI was meant to give the MMO world a try with final fantasy games, Square will always make more money than blizzard culd ever dream of, final fantasy is a awesome series each game has a different battle system, i played wow for a while and a private server, i hated the str8 forced pattern and lack of classes, it sucked, immensly lol FFXI was AWESOME however i stpped playing, unfortunately do to the fact of school and practice, but ill start again someday =]
Hey, having a lot of people support something doesn't mean that something is better or even good... I mean, millions of people still believe in those imaginary friends (gods, angels, budas, purple dinosours, etc) and that doesn't make 'em smarter or even being more right :)
Everything that is unique, special, better is never for the masses.
FFXI was never advertised like WoW... and it's like what... 8 years old? Also square now realizes if it wants a higher player base they need to make it more for the average player (not consuming so much time). It seems they're going to try and fix what was wrong up with FFXIV.
Anyways, FFXI was great, and in my opinion better than WoW but it needs to be more for the average player if they want to do as well as WoW.

i played this for 3 years and quit playing about 3 years ago lol. um get it becuz it is a good game. but seriously only if u have alot of spare time. the expansions (missions quests w/e) take so long to catch back up not to mention lvling since u must lvl in a party aside from beastmaster. i really miss the game but having a wife now and being in the air force i just dont have the time. but to give u my honest opinion go for it becuz after all others ive played FFXI rules them all.
Im thinking about getting this game on the 360 is it worth it now or has it aged badly and there ant a lot of online players? And anyone know were i can get a copy in the u.k there no were on the net as far as I can find its out of stock everywhere. Please replay would much appreciate it
FFXIV will probably come to xbox...but not on the global release date, FFXIV will be released for PS3 and PC first, then xbox 360 will get it some time after which is also a good thing, more players the better i guess
ahh all the work and leveling you need to get to this area fight these guys. FF online can be very demanding sometimes, but it was more rewarding in a lot of ways. This game was a lot of fun when I played it almost 3 years ago, miss it in ways. They had a saying WoW was for having fun, FFXI online was when you wanted a challenge.
I'm just wondering, is FF 11 compatible with Xbox 360 Mic? Because it would sound to complicated to type it and to talk to your friends, so I thought it would be better if it were Xbox 360 Headset compatibility...
other than that i wouldnt call this game friendly on casual or newbie gamers, it only suits for veterans and oldies since all the new stuff that comes out and expansions only adds goodness to them.

This is why I like FFXI, it takes planning and strategy, and you don't attack at speeds that no being could possibly do, unlike WoW. I hate that game, I got to level 80 in a month, compared to I've been playing FFXI for 3 months now, almost 4, and I'm only level 47 SAM. That's my highest job, not only that, but FFXI players are all mature and respectful, unlike WoW players, which will swear profusely at you for doing absolutely nothing.
yeah but have fun finding people to group up and lvl, you cant even turn in quest for exp, last time I played. When you do missions, it takes forever, and you end up just going invisible and using sneak to get pass mobs that take forever to kill by yourself, and with a group of equal lvls

I dunno, I've always wanted to try FFXI. I've played WoW and LOTRO, and maybe it's just that MMO's as the way they are right now really aren't my thing. I dislike the grinding stuff. haha, i can't wait till Fallen Earth comes out, that'll be nice... does FFXI have much grinding and such? its just such a boring thing to do -_-"

DemiGod, I played FFXI since 2004 and want to say it is definately NOT "pure" grind or anything close to it.
There is those 2 Jobs (Beastmaster and Puppetmaster maybe) that usually grind their way to 75 ... BUT in FFXI leveling is almost always done in groups of 6 that in it self causes alot of diversity in "grinding", as does the fact that you can level any job, meaning you won't be the "tank" or "healer" for the rest of your ingame life.
The real strength of FFXI is the TONs of content to explore(things you can do ingame), which do not all require you to reach the highlevels beforehand. Basically I'm saying the game offers plenty of alternatives to ease the grind or the patience needed to level.
Just don't try to be 75 by tomorrow. With little goals at a time you shouldn't feel like grinding!
I love FFXI because the game does not limit you to one way of playing. You can do all Jobs/Classes, every Nation's storyline ++++

yes u can play absolutely every class at any point in the game (exceptions are adv jobs that are available later on.). An added feature is that u can play multiple classes simultaneously w/ sub jobs. its kinda like guil war's second profession feature.
Lets assume you got White Mage to lvl 40, you cna freely change to lets say warrior (which will be lvl 1) but if you decide to change to white mage again it will still be lvl 40.

FF11 is the best! I've had it ever since a while after it's North American release. I have quit many times for months at a time however, I always return and never stop paying for my character. I can't seem to let go of the memory of my friends and the fun we had. In the world of Final Fantasy, you can always find new people to adventure with and new adventures to have.
actually the party play is what makes it unique, but still has a few problems when ur trying to find a party at a certain level. but recently the game changed, now u can get higher leveled people to join u in a party where they temporerly delevel to ur current level and join even if they have higher leveled armor (so they wont have to buy low level armor just for that case)
i used to play on caitsith but i quit exactly a year ago for bigger and better things like WoW but i kinda miss the peacefulness of FFXI so i may comeback and play my SMN and SAM -i miss Titan /cry-
360 is better for xbox live pt chats my LS is Filled with 360 users and we have pt chats all the time whether pt'ing together or half way acroos the world in the game its great
:\ the only use of "project XI" that I've heard it being used for is to better understand the stuff in the game, because if it wern't for that emulator available, I doubt we'd know half the shit we do know about this game.
Unlike your Easy Prey "WoW" they don't really give hints twords things in the game and we're sorta forced to figure it all out on our own, like a true hardcore MMORPG, and like any true hardcore FF game.

FFXI is the best MMO ever made, know why? because it actually requires teamwork, plus the community in FFXI is alot nicer and more polite than the 10 year olds you find in WoW on LotRO

ahh i dunno, ive played alot of MMO's and in terms of actual design and promting skillful execution I would say that WoW is soooooooo much more demanding than FF, sure FF boasts stupidly powerful bosses that can all of a sudden 1hit most the team, but WoW requires all out concentration, very fast reflexes and the best bit, every boss is beatable you just gotta know how to do it and give it your all, and thats for every 25 people in the raid, 1 slip by 1 person can end it all

FFXI is just a set patern every time of "this happens you do this" the bosses are mostly kept to one position and tank n spanked with a few obstacles to get around, they dont use any nifty mechanics to make the encounters seem a bit more unique (for the most part) and at the end of the day... if FF was better designed, why does it have a much lower fan base AND they feel the need to make a sequel? They (Square) obviously dont think so it would seem? And you base WoW off P. servers... nice one

FFXI was meant to give the MMO world a try with final fantasy games, Square will always make more money than blizzard culd ever dream of, final fantasy is a awesome series each game has a different battle system, i played wow for a while and a private server, i hated the str8 forced pattern and lack of classes, it sucked, immensly lol FFXI was AWESOME however i stpped playing, unfortunately do to the fact of school and practice, but ill start again someday =]

Hey, having a lot of people support something doesn't mean that something is better or even good... I mean, millions of people still believe in those imaginary friends (gods, angels, budas, purple dinosours, etc) and that doesn't make 'em smarter or even being more right :)
Everything that is unique, special, better is never for the masses.

FFXI was never advertised like WoW... and it's like what... 8 years old? Also square now realizes if it wants a higher player base they need to make it more for the average player (not consuming so much time). It seems they're going to try and fix what was wrong up with FFXIV.
Anyways, FFXI was great, and in my opinion better than WoW but it needs to be more for the average player if they want to do as well as WoW.

Well, there was this one guy who helped me get through the first few tutorial assignments and invited me to his Linkshell and everyone loved me! i played this for 3 years and quit playing about 3 years ago lol. um get it becuz it is a good game. but seriously only if u have alot of spare time. the expansions (missions quests w/e) take so long to catch back up not to mention lvling since u must lvl in a party aside from beastmaster. i really miss the game but having a wife now and being in the air force i just dont have the time. but to give u my honest opinion go for it becuz after all others ive played FFXI rules them all.

FFXIV will probably come to xbox...but not on the global release date, FFXIV will be released for PS3 and PC first, then xbox 360 will get it some time after which is also a good thing, more players the better i guess

ahh all the work and leveling you need to get to this area fight these guys. FF online can be very demanding sometimes, but it was more rewarding in a lot of ways. This game was a lot of fun when I played it almost 3 years ago, miss it in ways. They had a saying WoW was for having fun, FFXI online was when you wanted a challenge.

Are the mobs .dat swapped? The sky mobs usually have a distinct colour skin.

This is why I like FFXI, it takes planning and strategy, and you don't attack at speeds that no being could possibly do, unlike WoW. I hate that game, I got to level 80 in a month, compared to I've been playing FFXI for 3 months now, almost 4, and I'm only level 47 SAM. That's my highest job, not only that, but FFXI players are all mature and respectful, unlike WoW players, which will swear profusely at you for doing absolutely nothing.

yeah but have fun finding people to group up and lvl, you cant even turn in quest for exp, last time I played. When you do missions, it takes forever, and you end up just going invisible and using sneak to get pass mobs that take forever to kill by yourself, and with a group of equal lvls

what planning and strategy? all i saw was tank 'n spank, or crazy shit where the mob was just running around. also, a lot of people prefer a faster paced game like wow (lol wtf you talking about "attack at speeds no being could possibly do"?). you obviously haven't played with a decent guild if you're complaining about retarded kids or whatever. sure both games has its flaws but your argument is dumb.

I dunno, I've always wanted to try FFXI. I've played WoW and LOTRO, and maybe it's just that MMO's as the way they are right now really aren't my thing. I dislike the grinding stuff. haha, i can't wait till Fallen Earth comes out, that'll be nice... does FFXI have much grinding and such? its just such a boring thing to do -_-"

DemiGod, I played FFXI since 2004 and want to say it is definately NOT "pure" grind or anything close to it.
There is those 2 Jobs (Beastmaster and Puppetmaster maybe) that usually grind their way to 75 ... BUT in FFXI leveling is almost always done in groups of 6 that in it self causes alot of diversity in "grinding", as does the fact that you can level any job, meaning you won't be the "tank" or "healer" for the rest of your ingame life.

The real strength of FFXI is the TONs of content to explore(things you can do ingame), which do not all require you to reach the highlevels beforehand. Basically I'm saying the game offers plenty of alternatives to ease the grind or the patience needed to level.
Just don't try to be 75 by tomorrow. With little goals at a time you shouldn't feel like grinding!
I love FFXI because the game does not limit you to one way of playing. You can do all Jobs/Classes, every Nation's storyline ++++

yes u can play absolutely every class at any point in the game (exceptions are adv jobs that are available later on.). An added feature is that u can play multiple classes simultaneously w/ sub jobs. its kinda like guil war's second profession feature.

Each job has its own level.
Lets assume you got White Mage to lvl 40, you cna freely change to lets say warrior (which will be lvl 1) but if you decide to change to white mage again it will still be lvl 40.

FF11 is the best! I've had it ever since a while after it's North American release. I have quit many times for months at a time however, I always return and never stop paying for my character. I can't seem to let go of the memory of my friends and the fun we had. In the world of Final Fantasy, you can always find new people to adventure with and new adventures to have.

Superior is rather subjective in the FFXI vs. WoW arguement.
Some people dislike how you have to rely absolutely on parties unless you want to get raep'd by Goblins when soloing.
And to be fair, FFXI is brutally hard at times. Even with Level Sync, it's still tough.

actually the party play is what makes it unique, but still has a few problems when ur trying to find a party at a certain level. but recently the game changed, now u can get higher leveled people to join u in a party where they temporerly delevel to ur current level and join even if they have higher leveled armor (so they wont have to buy low level armor just for that case)

:\ the only use of "project XI" that I've heard it being used for is to better understand the stuff in the game, because if it wern't for that emulator available, I doubt we'd know half the shit we do know about this game.
Unlike your Easy Prey "WoW" they don't really give hints twords things in the game and we're sorta forced to figure it all out on our own, like a true hardcore MMORPG, and like any true hardcore FF game.
