  • Being tired of people knocking on your door, no matter what they are selling does not make you anti-social.

  • your right! but u didnt understand...not caring is one thing... undermining or offending an advanced intellectual like Pat will anger anyone. And yes even in the animal kingdom...you dont interupt a meal

  • you really didn't listen..

or perhaps you just didn't understand

  • @chaosjimjam if I wasn't such an understanding Canadian, I might have taken offense to being mistaken for a United Statesian. I guess it serves me right for trying to stick up for a horrible American religion.

  • you lost me on 0:24 billy the blue eyed virgin...how old are you, 12?

good luck believing in fairytales and praying to the almighty superman in the sky!

maybe you should try finding your own way in life and break free, instead of believing in the same mind-control scam the vatican pedophiles use for over 2000 years to keep the majority of the people under control and blind to the truth?

But if you HAVE TO believe in something, believe in yourself! believe what you see, not what you are told ;)

  • Door-to-door evangelicals are the equivalent of telemarketers. They're are annoying and disrupt your life, even a short time. There is no reason anyone should have to tolerate them no matter how "good" their intentions.

  • The issue is that they expect you to respect their beliefs and choices but at the same time they don't respect yours!

  • @Linkacious1 "The issue is that they expect you to respect their beliefs and choices but at the same time they don't respect yours!"

What do you mean by "respect"?

  • @Joshbuckler Well they would soon start complaining pretty quickly if atheists or whoever were knocking on their doors questioning their faiths and beliefs and trying to 'convert' them. Yet although they're obviously aware that this is the case it still doesn't stop them doing it to others. I respect their beliefs and leave them alone, so why can't they extend me the same courtesy? Didn't explain it very well...lol

  • @Linkacious1 Okay, I appreciate your explanation. But I don't see leaving people alone as a sign of respect.

Also, I would hope that Christians, at the least, would allow alternate proselytizers, even atheists, into their homes. Jesus would have let people come in.

But If they're hypocritical, well then they can watch this video to find out what I think they should do.

  • @Joshbuckler Its not so much about leaving them alone in my opinion. Its what they are trying to do. If I wanted to become a jehovah's witness for example I'm pretty sure I could find them easy enough. I don't need, or appreciate them questioning my beliefs. I guess that's my main problem with them. Not so much that they are knocking on my door. But because they almost insist on justification for your beliefs.

  • @Linkacious1 That is interesting. I would think all reasonable people would want to question their beliefs, and be able to justify them. But I can't read the minds of all reasonable people. In fact, I'm not even sure if I'm reasonable myself.

  • @Joshbuckler That's the thing mate, people shouldn't have to justify what they believe in. Its just a form of unwelcome criticism and they're doing it on your own doorstep. As I said if atheists went to visit JW's and began questioning their beliefs as if it were pure craziness and fictional then they would soon get annoyed/upset. But this still does not stop them doing this to others. That's my objection.

  • you mean you would like me to knock at your door every day and ask you to abandon your god?

if that's the case just tell me where you live, i'll try to help....

  • @reumonster apartment #8, 1617 Queensway Street, Prince George, BC, Canada. Ring-up number is 18.

  • U say "they aren't trying to make me say or do anything I don't want to"

    ORLY! :P

  • @dalkordigo "ORLY! :P"

Yarly. I've never had visiting JWs or LDSs sit on me.

I guess you could say it counts if they ask "will you do this thing / say this prayer / come to our meeting?", but I've said "no" about as many times as I've said "yes", and there haven't been any negative consequences yet. Maybe you could say they're trying, but if so, they're not trying very hard.

  • @Joshbuckler It's the whole point of it. They are trying to make you think like them. Believing the same unfounded stuff on faith alone. That's why they come.

  • Research project: why does Islamic Sharia law so closely match Deuteronomy? You cam handle the truth.

  • @ArtStone "cam handle"

is that some kind of fixture in a motor or something?

  • I like your laid back perspective on religion and probably shared that tolerant view until 911. That served to focus my attention on the dangers of resurgent religion, and specifically the religion of peace. It came as a shock to me that the barking mad nut jobs had actually managed to convince themselves that the west hated them. As opposed to the true massive indifference. Religion has the power to plunge the world into a new dark age.

  • @0sacrosanct You could probably convince me that religion does more harm than good. But I wouldn't blame all the world's problems on religion. Hate between the West and the Rest often takes on a religious tone, but its roots are in history: colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, and that sort of thing.

I think the answer is education. And sometimes religion does its part to advance education. Sometimes it doesn't. Hence the need for the whole conversation and engagement with "ignorant" people.

  • Since you welcome religious discussions and make yourself open to the right belief system, you come across as agnostic rather than atheist. Atheism is definitely a process for some people, rather than an overnight realization.

Not all atheists have anger, disgust, or distain for religious folks of the world.

Personally, I find there is comfort, freedom, and peace of mind in knowing there is no god. I don't welcome attempts to proselytize me into any faith.

  • @BellaOfBacardi "come across as agnostic rather than atheist"

I think "agnostic" fits me. But I also think a person can be both agnostic and atheist.

  • Put a Christian or Muslim in a room with Pat, there is bound to be a difference of opinion on the matter of religion; it's pointless to convince the other to change their mind. So to spare the aggression, arguments, and unpleasant times, it's best to cut it off short.

You are not passionate about your beliefs to the level of telling another person they are foolish for their religion. You calm confidence, perhaps even pride, about what you believe. You embrace religious diversity.

  • Some people are tactful, polite, and passive about religion. Pat Condell isn't the type to sugar-coat the stupidity of actions/beliefs.

He is not WEAK in his atheism, that's why he regularly points out how foolish it is to believe in any of the major religions, misleading the masses today

Pat Condell knows exactly where he stands and he won't budge from it, which I like!

  • @BellaOfBacardi "He is not WEAK in his atheism"

I see his position as weak because he attempts to stop conversation altogether. If he's so confident, he should be willing to engage until they give up. He obviously cares about religion enough to rant about it on YouTube. Yet for some reason he doesn't have enough passion to keep a conversation going in person?

  • @BellaOfBacardi "Pat Condell isn't the type to sugar-coat the stupidity of actions/beliefs."

True. He'll tell you what he thinks. If someone comes to my door and tells me the story of the Three Little Pigs, there's no argument in the world that will convince me that it is literal truth. But I will thank them for the story. And I will be happy to discuss why I think the Three Little Pigs never happened. And I'll be even happier to debate what kinds of lessons, if any, we might derive from it.

  • @chaosjimjam that's interesting. Are Brits prejudiced against all foreigners, or is it just Americans?

  • @chaosjimjam Now that's funny, even to this american. Don't worry, many of us hold them in equal contempt.

As far as this video. . . oh my where to start. "Anti social" "Curmudgeonly"????? Dude, you took 5 minutes of rambling non-sensical sleep inducing words to say what? That you welcome these people to your house?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • @peterf1 yes, that was the point of my video comment
