Both had advantages and as there was never a race then both won However as we build engines not suspension we where every happy with the results as well as the memories.
The rover has more torque and power so killed the nova in a straight line, however the rover had standard suspension, making it rubbish in corners. The nova was very good, just not a match fo the big V8 Rover!
@rrc1985 its all about camera angles, and weight, that Nova was held together with string, and Balsa wood. ... We can do 0-60 in a Dax Rush on sub 3.3 seconds as well as it being street usable.
Vicky seemed a little freaked out when she turned the key and awoke the Monster! I love the look on her face, at the snarl of that amazing 5.2L V8 after she got out of her 2.0L Nova which sadly sound about as good a 1990 Civic on steriods but it still sound good thanks to the ITB she'd had fitted to it. Both cars were great for different reasons, and they both sounded good. I would take both cars, the nova for handling, and the Rover for power.
If you are going to post this video then fine, just tell the TRUTH. it lost to the nova and you full well know it. Clarkson just couldnt handle losing to a Nova so it was a fix.
So this car would be out dragged by a 2.0 16v Nova? The Nova's best quarter mile time was 13.6 secs, this would easily beat that and was running mid 12's!!
Fair enough the Nova handled alot better but at the end of the day Vicki span it which let him by.
Ok so the rover won on straight line speed but round the track the Nova was the winner, the video was clearly edited and she was ripping up the handbrake slowing her down on corners. :-)
Every video is edited of course, but as you stated yourself, the Rover was blatantly quicker in straight line performance. Whether it was her driving or not the caused the Rover to win i dont know, but it did win. And how is this video not the Truth? It is behind the scenes footage;-)
Just because its better at straighlining doesnt mean its the overall winner because its got more power, its like a tank round corners, the nova won that event and clarkson didnt like it. hence why VBH was INSTRUCTED to slow it down just so clarkson could win for his DVD.
Sorry, little misunterstanding I meant your description is wrong, it didnt win both events ;-)
Also, if the car was that good why let it rot? at least the nova is still going around.
Perhaps the evidence is a bit inconclusive, one thing that has been noted though in past BTCC races is that the SD1 is very tough and very consistent in a full race. Back in the days when they were racing these, BMWs couldn't keep up and the lighter Volvos, although fast, could never keep up the pace for such punishing periods.
The SD1s had to be driven hard to get the results but the fact that they could be driven really hard, and consistently, for long races lays credit to such an amazing engine. Not only that but also the tough as old boots suspension. Ok, it was a bit crude, bit again, it performed consistently and without failure.
This to me is the last of the true Rovers and I for one would be happy to own a fully restored Vitesse with TVR engine in it... nice! :) I own a Jag XJ8, but even I think the idea of owning a fast big engined Rover could be fun. (On my wishlist right now)....
Hey guys fantastic work on that thing, but please redo this video without that awful music, i just wana hear the V8!

Rover SD1. My dad had the 3528cc V8 & it was a pleasure to drive as it would be for any young man in the 1980s . A car with Balls:-)

all mouth and no trousers. should have spanked the nova in a straight line, it was barely gaining on it over all that distance.
