i just checked the price of the 5000 against the k3, i think its comparing apples to oranges, i would hope the ft was better than the k3 but i still like ur video
This is really not a good comparison, most of what your hearing is speaker response differences, its obvious the 5K has more lower end response due to the speaker and eq settings, now run the K3 with the outboard 5K speaker and use a similar K3 speaker on the 5K , or simply switch the speaker between the two ..... now lets compare , I think the differences will be quite small considering the price spread.
It is very clear the mic orientation is not the same with respect to the radio's speaker. The mic is clearly beyond the "critical distance" from the Elecraft's upward facing speaker. That's why a hollow sound is noticeable as room echoes are beginning to compete with the direct audio. Those echoes also interfere with intelligibility. Many (if not most) Elecraft owners who use the speaker (a large number use headsets) plug in a pair of forward facing speakers for the ideal audio.
I wish I could turn the DSP off on my Pro3! I hate it, especially on CW where I get DSP artifacts when receiving! SSB DSP sounds great, but it sucks on CW. If anyone knows how I can minimize DSP settings on CW so I can get rid of that "underwater hissing sound", please let me know.
It's really important to have same bandwidth in both receivers (for example LPF at 250 Hz and HPF at 3.3 kHz) if you want to compare audios between two radios. Otherwise the test is not valid.
I also noticed that only the first receiver on the 5000 uses down conversion. The second rx is not as good. On the K3, both RX are the same, with 5 roofing filters per rx.
The K3 articulates the signal better. The yaesu sounds mucky and confused. The tonal settings are not the same between radios. Setup on software defined radios is quite variable. Meaningless test mostly. Get an S20 signal 2 KHZ awa and compare the recievers. I am sure the K3 will win hands down.
A very insignificant test - 20 meter ssb daylight.....all the radio appears to be the same.Try to test for best radio on 160 during night cw and no signal stations (like hs0zee).
Hehe, watch the k3 skate around. Nothing like a real beefy radio that doesnt move..

Both radios are excellent, for me the K3 is the best for cw and the best fort ssb is the FT-5000.
For the test they must to have the same equalization.
thanks for share and 73 from Rene HC2S

@hc2sa i call bullshit, the best radio for sideband is a cobra 2000gtl.

You should use the same speaker when you compare

Do I understand that this is a comparison between the seemingly excellent external speakers on the 5K and the tiny single upward speaker on the K3?
Seems like a comparison of speakers not radios!

Nothing out of this test.. I will use my K3 for a while.. What is the price of this Washing machine ?

Both BPF's were the same, same LPF and HPFs.

@yo3gjc Can you please tell us,exactly the RX bandwidth you have in both radios?

Hi, need a serius comparision meter.
I have sold my K3 for a better 7600 from ICOM.

I think the yaesu sounds better. K3 is hissy.

chek Elecraft k3 and ft5k in low band in cw
high bands on the comparison has no meaning, no extreme conditions
you repeat the test in 160 and 80 meters cw
