Kevin, that's interesting. Is linseed oil used to protect steel in areas other than the Southwest? I say this because when used on wood in moist climates, it turns black from mildew. The linseed oil is fantastic food for mildew. Your humidity is low out there, so perhaps it's not an issue. Gorgeous door! I don't envy you hanging it in the jamb. It looks like a beast, and must be very heavy.

Hi Tim, I am not sure about other areas but here I like to use it for its sealing quality. I have used it several times with the only drawback being the cure time. About 1 to 2 weeks on steel to dry.

It took 4 of us to hang the door on the pivot. Only weights in around 300lbs. The inside is finished in a 3\4 inch Ash. (I think).

Sounds like a bank vault when it closes.
