I think that it safer that it doesn't ignite, just think if it did ignite, someone would be more inclined to steal it after lighting their cigarette with it (people who borrow lighters obviously don't have their own and are eager to steal a lighter by a slight of hand)...If it didn't ignite then someone wouldn't care to steal an empty/non-functional lighter....

As for the lighter not actually lightning, that just gives you a perfect opportunity to catch up-close audio from your subject! I seriously doubt that video is from the same cam I got which is what he shows. My videos were terrible quality with poor colors and obvious NO SHUTTER SPEED WHATSOEVER, each frame went right to the next from a continuous pixel scan.

1 lux they say...haha yeah but there is NO shutter speed so you need tons of light for it to even start getting real video... if that will even work I don't know.

I got 2 of these from ebay. They are REALLY POOR quality. If you push the button down to hard (like you would push it if it were a real lighter), it breaks. Both of the buttons got broken in the same way. I would stay away from these cheap cameras that are likely to break on you the first time you try to use them. Also, the video quality isn't very good. I got a key fob camera that is much higher quality, for a lower price. These are a complete waste of money

@dr3ca4 I got mine today, went out and got the micro sd card for it.... only to find out the video sucks. It's supposed to be 1080 pixels which makes you think, wow, that's gotta be great right? WRONG ; the colors are not 256, there's only a few different colors which makes it look patchy and just terrible.

Also with a small lens with very little light gathering power, and cheap parts obviously for $20, the entire frame is not captured at once, it scans of when cam is moved pic bends all over

You have to create a text file named TIME.TXT and put it on the root path of the drive.

Inside the file you must write the date and time with this format: yyyy.mm.dd hh:mm:ss ie: 2010.12.13 11:12:13

When you unplug the lighter it will read and set the new date. You can remove then the file if you want.

My package didn't include the CD with the drivers for the PC camera, anyone knows where can I get them?. Tks

I finally figured out how to change the date / time stamp. This lighter DVR is awesome I give it 8 out of 10 only because the audio and video are recorded out of sync.  The video seems to be recorded at a slow frame rate and the audio is recorded in real time. Anyone have any tips for how to fix this problem? P.S. if you can't figure out how to change the date/time I might email you a copy of the TIME.TXT file I used if you are patient enough to wait for my response.

I have just got one of these and have been trying to understand how it works, I have cameras that cost over £1000 that are simple to work, but this thing is imposible, is it on, is it off, is it in picture mode, is it in video mode, after days of trying I have not got a video thats more than 4 to 5 seconds long. and unlike all the other spy cameras there is no youtube videos on how these work.
