Please can anyone help me here? I really love the beginning part with the quiet, lonely tone and the saxophone playing. It makes me think of going down to the shores at night and watching the moon while listening to this. If anyone here knows of a song very familiar to the sounding of this song, please send me a PM. Thank you. :)
This music still makes me cry and it's been years since I watched it. It's so sad yet hauntingly hopeful. I wish I could capture the same feeling in my words but I'm confident my attempts will fail.
This song forever takes me back to days of driving in the rain or falling snow, just sitting in silence because talking over the music just didn't feel right <3
Just throwing it out there, but the music industry (like any industry) is run by the consumers. If the majority of the masses buy Justin Bieber C.D.'s, guess what's going to be sold at number 1...
If I weren't so utterly opposed to having music at funerals - it's cheesy, not to mention pointless, what with the being stone dead 'n' all - then I'd have to choose this and 'Blue' (as in, the Bebop track of that name) for mine.
anyone know the name of the song that starts playing at the end of pisode five when Spike is fighting the Red Dragon in his ship and Vicious is killing the leaders of the Red Dragon?
@burentu Yeah, they do sound alike. I think Yoko Kanno is known for lifting influences from other people's songs and creating nice-sounding originals that stand on their own merit ("Torukia" from GitS:SAC derives partly from the beginning of Angelit's "Garkit", for example).
An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.
Laughing Bull: That is not an ordinary star, my son. That star is the tear of a warrior.
Boy: What warrior is it?
Laughing Bull: A lost soul who has finished his battles somewhere on this planet. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to the lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all.

@rashiedhozuki123 28 year old female here, feeling sorry for the poor gals that wasted their teenage years hearing BackStreet Boys instead of Cowboy Beebop BSO.
@TheArtifaz Seriously, its as if the whole music industry is run by teenagers. Justin bieber number 1!! Britney spears number 1!! kanye west number 1!! bag of cats run over by train number 1!!!
@TheIrieGerman I think it'd be more accurate to claim it's run by people who have an extremely good understanding of marketing, but wouldn't know real, genuine, quality music if it stuck a saxophone up their backsides and played a three hour free-form jazz solo straight into where-the-sun-don't-shine. Having said that, not ALL pop/chart music is terrible. Not by a long way. Just 95 per cent of it.
@TheIrieGerman anyone can get a record deal these days its not about the music anymore they just take the same sound and repackage it over and over again the sad part is this new generation is too stupid and apathetic to see it
@l3054 No, the sad part is people like you generalize a large group of people based on nothing. It's music, it's just fucking music, get over yourself mate.
@MashHacker like that macaneas guy said below the music industrys run by people who understand marketing not music they could care less if it sounds good they only care about money
@l3054 To make money it has to sound good. I'm not saying the music is good... but hating on it to such extremes is ridicules. Calling people idiots for enjoying music is sad, just sad.
@MashHacker take justin bieber a perfect example his most popular song is basically him just saying baby over and over but your just gonna keep calling me pathetic so lets not get into an argument im trying to be respectful so please dont be an asshole to me
@l3054 I have not once called you pathetic, I said your views on peoples views on music is pathetic. Just an exchange of opinions mate, not being an asshole to you personally just your opinion. I'm just saying it's easy to have a simplistic view of any song... Justin Beibers music in no way has the magic of this song or many others but there is NOTHING wrong with liking his music, your not special for liking "better" music. Thats all i'm saying mate, cheers.
@MashHacker thats not what im saying when crappy music is made it lowers the standard and they can get away with some very simplistic and repetitive songs the same kinds of sound have been repackeged alot
@l3054 You said this new generation is too stupid to see it. It's just a style of music that hopefully will not be popularized for much longer. Most mainstream music has been and is simplistic though man and probably always will be. This generation is not stupid, well ok it is, but so is every fucking generation. People are stupid. But calling a generation stupid because of whats toping the music charts is just silly lol.
@MashHacker alot of people in gen x knew how the music industry worked they understood corruption of the government not all but alot did why i call this generation stupid is cause most of them only care about money drugs and sex theyre really apathetic and dont care what the government does to people if theyre freedoms were taken away they probly wouldnt do a thing about it
@l3054 You don't give people enough credit mate. Obviously were not going to agree though, at least this little debate brought me to this song a bunch of times. Cheers, lets just continue enjoying good music, minus the argument thats not going to go anywhere :)

An old friend of mine just died today. He has been fighting cancer for awhile now. Listening to this song lets me know that despite all the sadness Ian has moved on to a better place. RIP Ian.
people listen to rap and watch american idol the average IQ has had to drop at least 10 pts the last 20 years. so its not really surprising that now 19 dislikes have been recorded.
I hope I'm not the only guy here who has spent more than 2 consecutive hours just staring at this page and replaying this song BY ACCIDENT. I didn't even intent to listen to this, but now i can't bring myself to close my browser. Ahh, what the heck. Another 2 more hours won't hurt.
Secret to Cowboy Bepop's success: not being overly Japanese. In the end I think that is why CB has such a lasting appeal on the international scale. When humanity spreads throughout the solar system, there is no reason why humanity wouldn't take it's culture with them, and the creators did such a great job in that aspect.
@mobius1aic I disagre, CB has tons of cliches (that I like xD) from anime and japanese shows in general. Its biggest diferencial (and better way to say the same thing you just said) is to say it was more eclectic and that it paid homenage to some good stuff from western culture.
@v2791 I'd go even as far as saying that having these elements made the show appealingly oriental. But as mobius said, it's really not overt. No in your face ecchi, no typically japanese streets, no school girls, the art style is not what you'd say is typically anime. You'd have to be a a watcher for 3 or more years to notice all the japanese stuff. Watanabe did some damn good research (or had a lot of western influences) on cowboy bebop.
No deep, dramatic bar/pub/lounge fantasies needed. I'm up at 6am, damn near ass naked, eating pancakes, playing this in the background and just chilling.
I feel like this'd be good music to play in a nice open area made of stone, with enough moisture in the cool air to feel like it's been lightly raining, then just lie back, relax, and listen to the music.
When I look up at the sky and see stars I hear this song. When I'm all alone at night, and there is snow on the ground, I hear this song. And when I die, I hope to have this song and Blue played at my funeral....
Listening to this song... I can feel the rain running down my face and the world turned boundless. The desert stretched out before me, the mountains in the distance.
@alentris Yeah, I know it's kind of a heavy accolade to give any single track, but I think it definitely does some amazing things with its sonic structure and interpretation. Kanno does some genius work with it- it's one of those songs that I wouldn't change a single aspect of- unique accompaniments (African vocal-jazz-space synth fusion), an amazing beat, the way the synths pulse in the background of the mix. It's just one of the small handful of songs that I can't critically break apart well.
@StorybookComa Definitely not the reply I was expecting. It is my second or third favorite OST track from Bebop, I love it to death. My issue was also more with the use of "impact". It is such a flawless piece, but such an undiscovered gem has little to no penetration into cultural music tendencies, and thus has little to no change or impact on music culture. For versed producers, it is definitely a point of inspiration, as are many of Yoko Kanno's works. Excellent conversation.
@alentris Oh, haha yeah I get what you mean exactly! Definitely, I feel sorry for the general public who will just give you a blank expression if you ask if they've heard of Yoko Kanno's amazing work. Artistically, I'd say her OST for Bebop is pretty complete. Such variety and at the same time it expands tremendously on the possibilities of blues and jazz meeting electronic music, etc. If this kind of material were the daily shuffle on prime-time radio, the world would be a better place.
i will take what i want from life,i will not let it take what it wants from me. and then, i will let go of what i've been carrying, and i will be alive.
Sadly, I'm someone who's diagnosed with insomnia. I can't sleep. I need to take medications for it. The med that I take for it (Which is a godsend) is called Strattera. It almost induces a high, to simulate being tired/sleepy. When It's in effect, I lay in my bed, with the lights dimmed, music on. It feels as if I am on a cloud. This song is in my playlist for that time. It's my fave.
"That is not an ordinary star, my son. That star is the tear of a warrior...A lost soul who has finished his battles somewhere on this planet. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to the lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all."
i loved this girl. this song inspired me to write a poem and read it infront of an entire class full of students, faculty and parents. i may not be there with her now but if she wants me there later on. i sure as hell will be. ill just dance this "space waltz" alone for now.
Souls, all affecting each other's worlds, creating new thoughts and ideas everday, the complicated web that is life. the web that was personified in bebop. the web a 14 year old boy will learn about. and the song that touches the soul of a boy who must keep on going...
When I hear this, I always feel sorry for Grimm, even though not much of a connection was ever made between him and the audience. I guess that's how powerful the music is.
This song actually kind of makes me remember mostly of everything bad that happened in my life. Mostly. The rest, were perfect things that happened, and will mostly likely never happen again.
this makes me feel like "if im going to die, if the world came to an end right now, thats alright because we hav nothing to fear about the other side.."
Whenever I start this video/song, I can't bring myself to turn it off without it finishing regardless of whatever else I have to do

It's my fave.

i loved this girl. this song inspired me to write a poem and read it infront of an entire class full of students, faculty and parents. i may not be there with her now but if she wants me there later on. i sure as hell will be. ill just dance this "space waltz" alone for now.

Souls, all affecting each other's worlds, creating new thoughts and ideas everday, the complicated web that is life. the web that was personified in bebop. the web a 14 year old boy will learn about. and the song that touches the soul of a boy who must keep on going...
