  • Good example of a workaround for a failed striker on the Magnetic Flagman---NOS striker parts are probably REALLY hard to find now, after being out of production for decades.

  • REST IN PEACE WIG WAG NO MORE @ THE "O" STREET CROSSING

  • Lived a stones throw from a Wig-Wag signal in Banning 20 miles West of Palm Springs. One of the first purchases for my HO layout was a Wig-Wag non operating signal. I recreated the RR crossing by the house & the SP depot across the tracks. Wouldn't be authentic w/o those Wig-Wags.

  • Love the wigwag, 5 *****

  • A UP train and a Rancho Ready Mix cement mixer in one video awesome!! I worked for both companies that's why.

  • oh.

  • Why did the cars start going across the railway tracks when the wig-wag was still swinging?

  • Because the cement truck honked at them to.

  • said that a car or truck knocked it over.

  • radio railroad

     dispatch

  • This is one of my favourate video clips with

wig-wags in.Nice job on making the video.

  • That is a type of wig wag that my father said used to be at the RR crossings in my home town. Dad said they replaced them in the 1960's with regular signals. Nice to see that there are still a few around.

  • Interesting Wig-wag.

  • The bell stopped ringing about five years ago and they added the electromagnetic bell on the side. Maintenence of way fiddles with it so it will at least swing properly. I asked if there were plans to replace these wig-wags, but since it's no longer a mainline they're not considered important. And yes, sometimes it doesn't shut off properly. The worst situation is when a city bus sits forever because the signal is activated even though there's no train in sight!

  • Thanks, nut.

Just saw your post. The paddle makes a "clapper" hit the bell every swing extreme. Part must not have been lubricated enough or the clapper mechanism simply cracked and broke. Maybe the track detection is being shorted by conduction through moist pavement. That should be solved.

  • it was showing off for the camera

  • It actually did shut off when the bell stops, just the mis-timing of the download here.

  • Bad signal, bad signal - for not shuting off. Must be crossing circuit problem.

They use other crossing bell. Wigwag's bells removed?

  • The newer mechanical bells are way much louded and ding faster than the older Magnetic Signal wig-wags.

  • Yes. They are much louder and more reliable.

Did they remove the wig-wag bell? I would have left it in place with that added bell also sounding.

  • Yes, the original bell is removed. We can see the replacement sticking out the side.

  • Yes, it's clear there is a new bell. Jeez...

  • Colton Where? Nice to see a wig wag!

    Matt
