  • kinda weird how the rear end shoots up when you punch it. My dad has a 79 in the garage that hasn't seen daylight in over a decade, said when taking off you kinda go up and foward. i guess it being a shaftdriven bike. I'd have to test it out sometime and compare to my gs1100

  • @kriegdouch

you are right, it is a shaft driven bike, with a lot of torque reaction when the power goes on.

i have experienced that the rear wheel will sometimes brakes away to the right side off the road for about 20 cm ,when you change gear at full throttle.

that are scary moments, i can asure you.

    greetz, Peter.

  • My father has one of these, and had it way back before I got my license at 16. I had no problems riding this bike as a first street bike, just USE YOUR HEAD!!! These bikes go AWESOME in a straight line, but don't turn well, so if you come to a corner too quickly, riding it out isn't an option. They are big and heavy, but they are pretty easy to ride and mild mannered compared to high-strung sportbikes. You just end up going WAY faster than you thought when you get to a corner.

    Jim

  • hai Jim, its design is 30 years old now, and the tires you can buy nowdays are not designed for such a heavy bike , i have installed bt45 ,bridgestones, and they perform quite well , but they only last for 2000 miles, then the front tire is so "cupped"that it not nice to drive anymore.

also it is very important to keep the front tire pressure at 2.7 bar and the rear at 2.9 bar for a little bit of nice steering around the corners, but it stays a heavy bike

    Greetzz , Peter.

  • hey z1300SIXCIL im buying one of these bikes its gonna be my first bike and the reason I'm buying this one is because its only 800$ could you tell if I'll be able to handle it I'm 21 and I'm 5'10 160 pounds I'm kinda worried its gonna be to powerful and heavy for me

  • he duffman, it is a heavy bike , and its surely no modern sports bike , the problem is, lots of power and weight , but a small rear tire, and poor handling, and little ground clearance

but when you sit on it , and you can get your feets on the ground , surely you can drive it, and enjoy how a real superbike of the eighties feels like, but take care with the throttle because the bike can bite.

(by the way, 800 $ is not much , for such a bike , you are sure there are no problems with it ?).

  • if you know anyone who is knowledgeable about motorcycles take them with you. An extra set of eyes is always a good thing when you are looking at a bike. Take into account the extra expense of owning an older bike ie. tires, oil, brakes, carb adjustments, gasket replacements, fuses... DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK THE SELLER QUESTIONS! By all means if it does not look safe to ride... don't buy it!

  • Great bike! 6 cilinders gives a smooth engine... But 280kg of bike... Arggh! It's too much for me! I've tried to ride one just like yours, and i couldn't handle the weight... but i know at highway is a very confortable bike... :-D

  • hai mike , whith a full fueltank , its weigth is about 340 kg ,but i have no problem with it , i am a tall guy, but when you look a little bit further on utube (z1300six) ,you can find some movies i shot in belgium on the circuit of spa/francorchamps, you can see there how fast you can go with a z1300 or a cbx.

the red one with the ferrari sound , has a home made open 6-1 exhaust and six flat bore keihin carbs, enjoy the beautifull sound.

    greetings Peter.

  • I have a '92 ZZR600, and it's ok for me... But 340kg i just can't handle it! But i love the bike! The CBX is an great bike, but somewhat ugly... The Z1300 is much more beautiful, and i think has more "engine" and performance... An kawasaki is an Kawasaki, and that means performance, excelent design, reliability... :-D

  • Not The most trouble free bike that is made, but maybe The most Macho!

  • i never had any problems with the bike , you have to threat her a little bit with respect and the knowledge that she is 25 years old.

  • The very first ones had a reputation for crank problems because they are designed to burn a little oil, had a 4.5 litre sump & owners didn't keep an eye on the level. The later ones had a 6.2 litre sump & are pretty much bullet-proof, over 100,000 miles before a rebuild isn't unheard of. Try that on a CBX! ;-)

  • So it is, i never had any problems whith the bike, and the handling is much better than a cbx, for i have experienced that a cbx will give you scary moments, when you least expect it, the frame and front is designed too light for the whole .but i must be honest, i think a cbx lookes better

  • Mooie motor heb je daar.

    Lekker geluid ;)

  • Hey, you got more of that stuff ? Looks like you have (and please keep it) one of those dinosaurs.

  • So what did it make then?

  • It made aprox. 107 bhp on the rear wheel

  • Not bad, that's quite a healthy 13 you have there then :-)

  • Thank you, it has gained a littebit horse powe now because i have installed k/n air filters direct on the carbs. and much bigger main jets (130) , an dyno carb. kit (much better response), and two bos silencers.

If you sent me your email adres, i can sent you some pics. if you want.
