In 1924, Alfred P. Sloan, CEO of General Motors invented planned obsolescence for the sole reason of increasing stockholder profits. This meant that consumers bought cars, they broke down easily and were replaced when GM sold you another newer car with parts made specifically to break in your hands and make you think it was your fault.
That's planned obsolescence.
GM cares about putting their hands in your wallet as often as they can and now they want a bail out? Screw GM like they screwed US.
I've been driving my Chev pickup for the last 20 years and its running strong. US autos have improved tremendously and that may be their problem: they produce just the same quantity as they did when they could rely on planned obsolecence. Toyota has had huge recalls as well.
Am I the only one who has a huge crush on Dana Perino?!
Please let the stinky american turd auto companies die. We don't need more poop on the road. The workers can go work for Honda or Toyota and everyone concerned will be much better off.
HEY WHAT ABOUT THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY? WHEN DO THEY GET A CUT?
this is the biggest load of shit I've ever seen. The legacy airlines were just like the big three, and the government never bailed them out. So what resulted? SOUTHWEST, JETBLUE
This nation that supports the Japanese so heartily will wind up with no auto manufacturing companies in the US and will wind up sending the majority of our car money to other countries just like we send our oil money elsewhere. Don't give me that "these cars are made here" bullcorn. The majority of the money is going to another nation. We are going to deplete our nation of its wealth in the long run, and we are also going to incapacitate our industrial capabilities. GREAT JOB AMERICANS!!!
Don't you all care about your fellow American's jobs? 1 in 10 people have jobs related to the US Auto Industry. With restructuring, WE CAN make the next generation of cars.
your damn straight, and WE CAN do it WITHOUT a bailout. The top 3 falling will make room for a new generation of auto companies which WILL scoop up all the employees. With all the government incentive programs for green this and that, it'd be a steal. WHY ARE WE BAILING OUT THE TOP 3?!
Like other people said let the Big 3 FUCKING DIE. Another car company will emerge in the vacum they create one that doesnt have to be shackled with unions.
I'm sorry, you are wrong. You don't know what you are talking about. Unions protect people, help families, help send people to college, and much more. You don't know what you are talking about.
I live in Metro Detroit. You probably aren't from Michigan. The UAW has helped my family much more than you could ever understand. People who work in car factories come home hurting, so they get paid well, or else they wouldn't do it. Toyota only pays as much as they do to remain competitive with UAW factories. Do you think Toyota will continue to pay well if the UAW busts? I don't.
The workers come home hurting? LOL, too funny. Your Masters are busting your unions, great change is coming to America. Your masters(big business and bankers) are bringing you to your knees, they won't stop until you beg them to. Then they will know you are ready to give up your constitution. It's their goal, one world under one government and America has to die for them to reach their goals. So what we are seeing is the destruction of America.Stop blaming each other and find out who is doing it
yeah $30 per hour to screw in lugnutz. no way. There are two things about unions that they will be getting away with no more. They dont want to hardly work and when they do they want way more than the work is worth as far as auto workers go. Seems like the most overpaid union i can think of. look at what teachers get that is a good union
I think everyone should get paid well. I'm sorry you don't get paid what you are worth. Or, you know you don't actually work hard, so you think no one else does, and therefore, shouldn't get paid well. This sounds like the root to your argument.
And just what is that better way? It doesn't matter how much money American automakers get as welfare from the American tax payer. If they continue to make the same crap they do now, we're wasting our money. Some industries just need to fail to get that verticle shock they need to change.
Agreed. But the ship has already hit the iceberg, and this is just the band. It sure is nice having soothing music - as look for a lifeboat to climb into.
who is this assclown.

No justice. No peace.
No green car. No bail out.
But being free in your enterprise is to sell what they are not buying into.

Big3 Auto should turn to Big3 Oil for Bailout Exxon etc... After all Big Oil are the direct benefficiaries of the Big3's gas guzzling SUV's.
OR ask Saudi Arabia, or any of the foreign country where they have manufacturing and assembly plants in... like the new plant in Russia.
Leave the US Taxpayers alone!
It's not enough we buy your SUVs and the oil at $150/per fill up, now you want our tax dollars to bail your sorry asses out?
NO WAY!
