  • uummm... at the top right it says "4 seam"

  • @pinkbros3

yeah as in 4 seam gyroball theres also a 2 seam gyroball

  • @DGlaze91 @WiZ111112 the ball used is half white half black, the white part is the back of the ball, the black section is the front part. this is the 4seam version (look at the top right corner) with 4 seams rotating towards the batter. 2 seam version has a different seam view facing the batter becuz the batter only sees two seams rotating towards him.

  • gyno ball

  • Isn't the rotation on a gyro-ball similar to a slider? Cutting through the ball with the fingers to create left to right spin?

I don't get what makes them different.

  • @andros1984 Nothing really. Welcome to pitching. You can get the same stuff with different pitches. People online focus so much on "the grip" and stuff when in reality, you can get similar pitches and hybrids all of the time.

Most MLB pitchers have their own variations of most of the common pitches. Why else do they all have their own movement? People online are dumb.

Daisuke himself says sometimes when he throws a slider wrong and it doesn't bite, it creates the gyro movement.

  • @ajlepisto

He cant even throw one, the Japanese proffesor that invented the pitch said that himself, also, the way you throw it (well it's how a lot of epole told me how) is you either hold it like z 2 seam or a 4 seam fastball, but with the ball facing 1st if you throw it like a 4 seam it will look faster than it is, and if you throw it like a 2 seam then it's supposed to look slower than it really is,

  • @Ilikemonkeysful Ya, Daisuke actually admitted when he moved here he couldn't throw it...but it's sports, and it's hype, so of course the Red Sox are gonna tell people about it. If you worry about what a pitcher throws, he's got an edge.

I love how people eat this stuff up.

  • it says 4 seam on the top right.....

  • @WiZ111112

The ball is half white, and half black.... they're showing that the catcher sees the same half of the ball the entire time.... that's what's so amazing about it....

  • its not fake, the ball he is using is a gromaster ball. its just a normal ball but the one side is orange. they use this color so you can tell if your pitching the groball corect or not. if the batter or catcher see's white on the ball then the pitcher needs to practic more. the idea of the pitch is that the comes down home plate like a football would, spining on its sides and not end over end.

  • Looks a lot like a screwball to me.

  • Interesting pitch, but there are so many opinions online as to what it actually does. Seeing commentary from Japan on this pitch, they freely admit to it being a fastball caliber slider or "super cutter". There is a lot to the pitch that can mess batters up, including the unique ball movement and the late break. Definitely fun though to see this debate keep going.

  • the gyroball is one of the most dangerous pitches, almost as dangerous as a change-up.

  • @Kurama024 It basically IS a changeup. Changeup is an offspeed pitch that presents itself like a higher velocity counterpart.

  • its a change up with movement from left to right, and it drops of the table

  • @gcghockey No, that's a Shootball or Shuuto.

    "The Great Equalizer"

  • a changeup??? are you fucking retarted.. its a fastball with a sideways spin.. and No movement u must be fucking retarted too. Cuz its not meant to have a crazy break to it its just suppose to slide to the left right before the plate. So when the batters up there they think its a normal fastball then all of a sudden it breaks throwing off the batter

  • so its like a cutter?

  • @AfganKush420 That's a Shuuto. Gyroball doesn't break.

  • a gyroball is basically a change up wit a different spin

  • a gyroball has no movement to it at all....the pitch everyone thinks is a gyroball is a shuuto...look up that shit

  • thank you for being one of the few out there who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to the gyro. too many have been mislead by william carroll and his bullshit article about the gyro being a superslider.

  • a shuuto is a fastball dumbass

  • Comment removed

  • hmmm why else would they call it a gyroball hmmm??

  • wow you really are stupider than i originally thought...its called a GYROBALL because of the spin it has not because of its movement. its spin looks like its spinning on a gyroscope..hence.. GYROBALL

    ...idiot

  • hm...no it isnt

and yes this is a video of a gyroball but what i'm saying is that what everyone knows as a "gyroball" is a shuuto...this is an actual gyroball

  • also a couple more points from the wikipedia page for shuuto...

"Western observers also tend to confuse the shuuto with many other types of pitches, including the two-seam fastball"

"The shuuto is often confused with the gyroball, perhaps because of a well-known article by Will Carroll[1] that erroneously equated the two pitches.

...i also got a mark twain quote for you

"It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

  • copy and paste

    2.send to 2 other videos

3.hold your breath for 10 seconds

    4.LOOK AT YOUR BACKGROUD,FREAKY!

  • Cool effect. Thats amazing but thats not the pitch Dice-K made famous. Dice-K's breaks more.

  • someone tell me about the gyro ball and its effects and pros and cons please

  • a true, straight gyroball does absolutely nothing in terms of movement. no break at all. it is more or less what many call a 'backup slider,' a slider that doesnt break. what the pro here is that when one pairs a gyro with a plus slider. one can deceive the batter by throwing a gyroball AFTER a slider(s). the batter thinks its another slider and will prepare for the ball to break, as usual. instead, the ball goes straight, effectively fooling the batter.

  • well it's like a cutter, but it breaks way too late, making the hitter think its a fastball, it can hit you if you're a lefty and you swing the bat late, it hits you in the fingers....

  • That is just a change up right in the homerun zone!!!!

  • i saw yu darvish trying to learn it while watching daisuke pitch yesterday. the myth is true!

  • great video.. the pitch which dice-k throws and which people call the gyro ball is thrown exactly like this. It has a football spin and a real heavy sink

  • Amazing!!!!

  • So many videos have been made on how to throw a gyroball, unfortunatley they are all correct.

The gyroball can be anything u want it to be. slider, curveball, screwball or changeup.

A pitcher can make up a pitch, not tell anyone how to throw it, and everytime you (or the media) see that pitcher do something cool with the ball that you dont recognize.

    The "Gyroball" is born.

  • no its not u fcin dumass ur mom does dat shit wit me its a curve-changeup u fucin domshit

  • Hackers. Do not try to throw this pitch in the backyard with your pals. You will do serious elbow tendon and ligament damage. Someone did, and needed surgery. Took 3-4 months to heal.

  • well if you're not a baseball player to begin with you wont have enough power to destroy your arm with that unnatural motion

  • LISTEN

When you go to watch a video on "how to throw a gyroball" think about what you've heard about it...Slider?Screwball?Cutter?Sinker?

NO ONE FUCKING KNOWS HOW TO THROW A GYROBALL BECAUSE THERE IS NO SPECIFIC GRIP OR BREAK

It can be whatever you want and you can call it a gyroball...

    However,

Dice-k does have a change-up that works with the direct opposite movement as a cutter

going in to righties and away from lefties..

Which may have caused SOME confusion

    mostly people being dumb

  • you need to take a good look at this vid because this is a gyroball. yes you are right: there is no specific grip because you can grip it like a fastball only you turn your hand like he does here and eventually he turns his full arm

  • right on this comment makes complete sense.

  • its not the perfect gyroball.. you can only see 1 side of the ball.. it looks like a gyroball.. but look closer.. the camera is not at the back of the catcher.. so it is like a slider spin..

  • do u no how hard that it to pitch

  • i don't get how it is such a good pitch yeah everybody thought Dice-K was going to be amazing and he is but has anyone ever seen him throw a gyro ball with the Red Sox??? i mean ya he is good but there was so much hype for him.

  • it's not supposed to be a 'super miracle pitch.' it was used by the japanese media in order to try to hype daisuke for the majors. unlike all the other vids in which it is unclear if daisuke is indeed throwing with a gyro spin, this vid is prob the only one on youtube which is legit. when used properly, the gyro can be very useful for any pitcher.

  • i dont get it...hows that pitch supposedly unhittable?

  • looks like a slider/breaking ball to a hitter, comes at you like a fastball. sweet spot of the ball reduced to the exact middle of the ball, and induces over 9000 pop ups/foul balls. try throwing several fastballs inside, some sliders outside the zone, then a gyro. it sets off the timing for the hitter.

  • thats sick.....if had a 99 mph fastball to back that up...this kid would dominate....even more

  • i'm pretty sure he spelled favorite ok. it's the way they spell it in the uk.

  • hmmm...funny because this is clearly a slider....and football spin=slider spin.

  • fucking awesome

  • its just cool<3

  • learn how to spell favorite dummy.

  • the gyro ball is one of my favourite pitches

  • nice that had sum spin

  • chin ming wang is wayyyy better bitches

  • wrong

  • Actually the ball has the black on it I seen many pitchers use these balls to practice knukle balls to tell if it is moving.

  • he is throwing one of those small japanese watermelon

  • actually the ball is painted white on one side and black on the other. Tezuka gave me one when he taught me how to throw it in 2007. check my page for the video in my log...

it's called a "gyromaster" ball and there are 2- the black one from the video is a 4 seam gyro and the red one in my video is a 2 seam gyro. it's painted to show you where to grip the ball.

  • HOLY shit that is fin amasing

  • fake, if you look at the start of his wind up the ball is white? when he throws it its black?

  • @WiZ111112 its called photoshop highlight;very commen, its real

  • @WiZ111112

its not fake, the ball he is using is a gromaster ball. its just a normal ball but the one side is orange. they use this color so you can tell if your pitching the groball corect or not. if the batter or catcher see's white on the ball then the pitcher needs to practic more. the idea of the pitch is that the comes down home plate like a football would, spining on its sides and not end over end.

  • @WiZ111112 Half of the ball is white, the other half red. The point of this is if the catcher sees only red the whole pitch, than the pitcher threw the gyro ball right. There is also a plus in the middle of the red, showing that it should be spinning counter clock wise around it.

  • this is the most awsomest pitch ever

  • which song is that beginning music in?

  • Barracusa by Heart

  • footbalmaniac: Sorry, the song is "Barracuda" by the group Heart from the 1970s.

  • looks animated lol

  • Yeah, it does look animated.

  • How did the Sox waste money? Dice-K performed greatly in this past season.

  • The gyro ball's a bunch of crap! The Red Sox wasted a $#@% load of money on that guy.

  • you should take a look at the yankees and igawa. 50 mil= 6+ ERA. Hideki Irabu all over again.

  • 20 mil, oops

  • well let's see retard, they got him because he was one of the best pitchers in the world at the time, he had a decent season last year, and they won another world series as he will continue to get better in the MLB. think before you comment.

  • @whitedevil2 He sucks now lol. I am a redsox fan

  • @xDr4kxKILLERx

wth? where u been? Im a sox fan too and no he doesnt

  • @Ilikemonkeysful thats why he got tommy jon. I will give you he is hit or miss. He was grate in 08 and been ok the rest of his contract.

  • Igawa on the other hand....well, lets not talk about him anymore...lol

  • its a screwball but just backwards trust me im a red sox fan

  • oh youre a red sox fan, thus you must know all about the gyroball. read a fucking book junior. the screwball comes off the middle finger while the gyro comes off the index. the gyro has little to no break while the screw breaks away from lefties.

  • thats not a gyroball, to throw one at the point of release you whip your arm back. no one actually throws it and people are confusing two seamers and change ups thrown from a sidearm slot as gyroballs for some reason.

  • well it definitely has the spin of a gyroball...if it isnt a gyro, then what is it, pray tell?

  • a frisbee slider

  • why do you have such a boner for a pitch that only exists on some japanese engineer's computer simulation? Dice-K doesn't throw it. People confuse his change up as a gyroball, the problem with his change up is that he doesn't throw it like a change up (fast ball) and it forced the Red Sox coaching staff to work on it with him.

  • 1.) not a frisbee slider, as it is more prevalent among sidewinders, aka Byung Hyun Kim. And 2.) Yes, youre right that Dice doesnt throw it. and yes, many confuse the gyro for a change. I'm not denying it, but when you look at the ball thrown above, it has the same spin that a gyro would have. ive read tezuka and himeno's book, and although it's "close" to a slider, it isnt one.

  • a incorrectly throw slider has that kind of spin and will drop like the supposed Gyroball

  • What is the advantage of the gyroball? It seems to me that by "rifling" the ball like this it would make it more stable in it's flight and easier to hit.

  • the sweetspot of the ball is reduced to one point. a lot of the time, hitters miss this spot and end up with a groundout or flyout. moreover, when you throw a 4seamgyro, its speed "exceeds the batter's expectation"and the 2seamgyro does the opposite. so the speed keeps hitters off balance. its a bit complicated.

  • red sox stink!

  • im sure kei igawa really helped the yankees this year, right? what was his era? 6+? wow what a great f'n pitcher.

  • lets see you pitch in the majors and have an era of below 6

  • thats not the point junior. the point is that the yankees paid this fucker 20 mil over 5 years and got screwed because of it. tell me, do YOU want another hideki irabu on your hands? i sure as hell dont

  • why does the ball look so fake

  • i dont get the gyroball...wouldnt that just be a screwball, but with a different name

  • no! its not a damn screwball! read the excerpt on this video! the ball comes off the other side of the hand for a screwball. think football, not screwball

  • thats sick.....if had a 99 mph fastball to back that up...this kid would dominate....even more

  • its a slider that never slides...very hard to hit

  • This is directly from the Gyroball training DVD published by Beta-Endorphin. I can confirm; I own the DVD. It is legitimate.

  • ok there is such a thing as a gyro ball but it is just a slider with a diffrent kind of rotation

  • This is bullshit. The ball looks like it was edited in.

  • true gyroball..

  • Wow.

  • A slider would move the other way...the ball would turn clockwise from our viewpoint. its backwards.

  • From a lefty it would, not a righty. A clockwise spin (batter's view) would be a screwball from a righty. The gyro I was shown spins 9 to 3 (batter's view).

  • your retarded.

  • Amazing!!!!

  • dam.

  • Opposite of a curve ball man. It's terrible on your arm though. Message me for any questions.

  • can someone please post a video of how to throw a screw ball?
