Dude, echo is good for one thing...that extra "punch". You said,"tune the echo the way YOU like it". Many would beg to differ as to much echo is simply annoying. Having a rediculous amount of echo to "sound cool" will only leave you talking to urself because noone on the road wants to listen to a bunch of echo. The 2 things I hear the most out there (yes, I'm a trucker) is 1) TURN THAT ROGER BEEP OFF!! 2) TURN DOWN THAT DAMN ECHO!!! Give it some thought before you bug us from ur base station!

@tezterz 77s haha.. If you look at the meter, its not moving. :) PA AND, look into a user manual, Galaxy states 5mins transmit time before it will fail with a 20 to 1 match. Which I have to say WOW. In the 70s, parts were not as efficient as they are now and produced more heat in return luss keying up warmed things up quickly. Just my two and a half cent. Nice Radio, Magnum s9 owner :)

Have you seen the new cobra 29 yet? Coming out soon. Looks good but that dont make a radio.

Very nice radio. I have a 29LTD Black Chrome I bought brand new. I too have the Astatic Echo board. I will say it has a very clean sounding echo, but it doesn't have enough delay for me. I like slapback echo with a nice delay. Nice radio though!!

dsouth. Small radios with no mods may work great where you transmit from but here in NY theres FAR to much power ran by almost everyone that a stock radio wont let you talk to your neighbor. Also echo boards add a little extra punch to your audio.Should really go for a Connex echo board though. Much better quality of echo. The connex's slowest setting is much slower than the astatic in the video.

Connex boards are old outdated tech like the factory bords in galaxy and texas ranger radios and arent available any more not to mention they sound like hell you need a good modern turbo echo board and you will be much happier with the results if you like echo. Also too set up a radio properly the board has to be fine tuned and the the proper talkback set up as well with an on of or variable for it so it does not squeal like a stuck pig.

@SNAKERADIOSINC Actually snake- RANGER makes all the boards for the galxys and connexs theyre not LIKE the ranger boards they ARE those boards- and I never had ANYTHING but compliments from everyone that my connex strokes. Im not one of them that think mine are best I just know that mine is really good, sound quality wise- I use the stock connex mike the older one not the cheapo trucker special ones that they come with now and until I show people they dont believe - they think im using a D-104.

@JimmyR1rider All I did was state that my slowest setting on mine is much slower than the board he out in his- I didnt bash him- no need to bash me. If you dont like Connex radios or echo boards. I know the mother board for sure is made by Ranger- am pretty sure the echo boards are as well. The mother boards galaxy ad connex pay Ranger a good enough price and then slap their name on them.

Nice, but I don't see the point of the echo effect, other than it might make other operators think that they are trippin' on their last cup of coffee or some other tomfoolery LOL. I use little CBs with no mods and they're still fun.

yeah I put it in, you could do it.

You locate the audio wire that goes to the mic connector inside the radio. Clip it and hook two wires to those ends. Then solder the ground wires to one of the tuning cans (Silver square things with screw in the middle) inside the radio and put the positive wire on a 12 volt source.

i just added an echo mod and talkback to my 1978 Cobra 29XLR...shes old but it works great and was peaked and tuned, putting out a lttle over 14 watts..I like Cobras but i love the Galaxy auto SWR feature

thats awefull nice, im getting the newest one that is chrome and black with blue backlights, i think it has built in echo, what you need now is a pa system in your yard so you can quickly switch to it on your cb if it has it which i believe it does and talk to people and scare them, lol

The new black chrome radios look nice. I believe they have talkback but not echo. I actually have a PA speaker outside my window so I can yell at the kids when they are outside when I want them for something. Damn, I'm lazy....LOL.

i drive a jeep wrangler offroad, are these things water resistant, reliable, shock resistant or do they need to be babied? i dont mean like submerged or kicked around, but driving off on dirt trails and if a light downpour cought me without my jeep top? i had a great old radio and died, i want a fair priced no bullshit radio that wont crap out and transmit wonderfully.

Cobra 29's are shock resistant and reliable. Are they water resistant? No .. but it would take a lot for water to get inside enough to do some damage.

I've had Unidens too. They are good radios. Some people say the boards in the Unidens are thicker than the Cobra's. However I could see no difference at all. I prefer the Cobra because you have more options for upgrades and modifications .. if you're into that sort of thing. Plus they have better filtering inside. But the 78 elite is sharp looking!

My antenna light keeps coming on when I key the mic. K30 mag mount on top of P/U trock. Ive raised & lowered antenna but antenna red light still comes on.What can I do & will it hurt my radio? Thanks, Boogy Man

Yes it can hurt your radio! Get an SWR meter from radio shack or eBay and check your antenna with it.

Sounds like a short in your coax or an ungrounded antenna mount, send me a message and Ill send you a link to a nice checklist of things to make sure your antenna set-up is optimal, mine is hitting an SWR of 1.1:1 thanks to it...
