Interesting about the radiation affecting telemeres. A factor outweighing inheritance is stress. The longer the stress the shorter the telomeres. This was universal regardless of ancestry. Considering biblically we are meant to live to 120, an normal life span od 65 indicates that there is something not quite right with the way we are living our lives...wouldn't you say?

but the "aging caused my telomeres" idea is wrong.. according to my professor.
@9876543219876 glad you liked it. We just covered telomeres about a month ago in my Biochemistry class (@stony brook) and our professor was pretty positive that they cause aging. He cited experiments done by other scientists that showed rats having extremely shorter life spans when their telomere regions were reduced....though may be your professor is talking about the actual aging process and not the life-span of an individual, which would make some sense.
