Totally love Wilcox, part of me is "sad" he's not a mega huge star (why should some teen from American Idol have more air time) but of course, his modest low key brilliance is what makes him so awesome.

David Wilcox is such a special human being! My friend and I were gypsy minstrelling around Marin, and we wandered backstage as he was doing a dress rehearsal for a show that night at a big theatre. We ended up all sitting round robin, playing songs, and he gave us free tix to the show, plus a bunch of CDs. This is my favorite of his songs! Actually, his Rainsong has a specially modified/custom metal bridge with individual setup for intonation, he uses a custom hand-made Sunrise pickup in the soundhole with a very expensive mike pointed at the guitar. He blends the guitar sound through a very expensive (10K?) custom-made preamp. This is in his shows. Don't know if he has all the gear here. Wilcox is an audiophile--he's not afraid to use technology to get an awesome sound.

It's open G with a B on the sixth string. Cut capo to fret IV. It strums an open B chord.

Hey John..what do you mean...cut capo..is that a special capo..I just noticed that he uses two together on another song??

It's cut to let the sixth string (lowest string) through. A "drop D" capo by Kyser. In this particular tuning, there is a B on the lowest string, and then a B an octave higher on the IV fret. It makes for an amazingly big sound. Wilcox says this is his favorite tuning, and he does use it on a bunch of songs.
