There's something wrong with the lens on this video! Bobbie Gentry is a knockout, but her nose looks like the one on the Wicked Witch from Oz. Something about taking tv footage and putting it on film is distorting her pretty face.
Yes, this is a fine rendition from an unlikely 'quartet'. Then you look around YT and realize that all the renditions are fine. Then it dawns on you that, hey this is just a great song, a super slice of Americana from a great, great musician and electrifying performer!
this was just too cute, kind of funny watching the guys read the words off cards or whatever they used back in those days. the version of this song I love is Doug Kershaw, wild man lol
god... i turned 26 less than 24 hours ago.... why do i still find this woman so attractive? as far as age goes I must be her biggest fan... from ode to billy joe to fancy... this chick has never ceased to impress me... and god she was sexy for her time!!! I LOVE BOBBIE GENTRY!!!!
what an unusual little number and dance they did. They sound great together. I always loved Bobbie Gentry, ran into her not too long ago in LA. She's still beautiful as ever.
@eckankar I don't know if you actually know Bobbie but The Mississippi Musicans HOF has been trying to find a way to send Bobbie her induction plack. They are not even sure she is aware of her 2008 induction.
Really need somebody banging on a triangle for a Cajun number. I am assuming that this is from the BBC show Bobby did- I watched it as a teenager- they probably didn't have one! As for The Hollies- they're not in fancy dress- that was the standard pop star garb of the time- see Cliff singing "Congratulations" for more scary stuff! Then Lennon went all freaky, so dressing down (and dirty) became all the rage! I imagine on her albums she had Joe Osborne & James Burton playing- Louisiana Men-in LA!
This was the second single off Bobbie's album' The Delta Sweete'. The first, Oklahona River Bottom Band was self penned and went #54 pop and top forty a.c. This was a cover of the Doug Kershaw classic that also hit the pop hot 100 for Bobbie.
Har har har at 0:20. I always knew that Alan Clarke was a virtuoso tambourine rattler but had no idea that he also played the triangle. Now that's what I call versatility.
WTF? Not exactly CSNY are they? Only a 60's variety show makes this kind of Fish & Chips & Grits, possible. Nevertheless, Alan Clarke is a great singer & when it came to sugar babes, Bobbie Gentry was the real deal.
Bobbie Gentry was far more than easy on the eyes. Her Ode to BillieJoe has been covered over 200 times and sold forty million records. Her other classic song ,Fancy now has twenty covers. How many female artists were writing and producing their own songs in the 1960's?
Check out Bobbie Gentry's You Tube duet of ' There Is A Mountain' with Donovan from her BBC variety show too. Her show had a four year run1968-71. It was syndicated all over Europe and even to Hong Kong. It was still in re-runs in the late1980's. This savy lady even produced the show with her own company, Gentry Ltd. This grammy winner was writing, producing and publishing her own songs in the 1960's. A true trailblazer for women gaining controll of their own careers.
I think her shine was definitely reciprocated, lol. Graham certainly appears to be enjoying himself with Bobbie. I think they're pretty cute together :)
This looks like a clip from Bobbie Gentry's BBC variety show. I Hope it is put out on dvd. She was great and had great guests. She even introduced James Taylor to the world on her show.
That triangle bit was cute! I loved the way Allan smiled when he did that. Bobbie Gentry was one lucky lady to have three handsome, talented men singing with her. Thanks again, Alex!
Love it! Thanks for the post! : )

The Mancunians have a ball in true American variety TV show tradition. Miss Gentry must have taken an innocent shine to the charming Mr. Nash...
Thank you!
