  • just saw vanhalen in concert at louisville , i saw on my tour shirt there heading for toronto

  • toronto reapresent , woodbridge right here

  • sweet jersey!

  • Can u. Just make a video with only scales that can be played in tuning of standard C thanxs

  • thanks for making it simple and easy to understand! Awesome job!

  • lol at 2:18 either you picked something wrong or your guitar's neck aint fully straight, but it was kinda dissonant :P most guitars are out of tune at octaves anyway, so nice improvising to cover the fail with that slide there :P

  • i have a question should i get the like V shaped guitar or the normal guitar im new with that lol im just hoping to play like hardcore heavy metal sound

  • @halodude178 Depends what you mean by normal guitar. Flying V's are great for metal and beyond as well though. The only hitch I have found with flying V's is that its kinda a pain in the butt to sit down and play but other than that they are great.

  • @halodude178 you can play any style on any guitar, really.. but a good option for going metal is bc rich guitars. I really dislike their evil-looking guitars, but they do a great job at making low-budget metal-tastic axes.

  • @IronBroadsword yeah i got a bc rich guitar!!!

  • @halodude178 cool. I owned a blue warlock with chrome hardware as my first guitar. Just sold it this year, actually. hope you enjoy yours

  • Ps your videos are very heloful

  • Is there any way you can make a video of you demonstrating more power chords I've been playing for about 3 weeks non-stop getting rytham down with majors minors and some Barre chords I can play a few intros to some song but that's it but if you could make another video with different power chords that would be highly appreciated

  • I'm canadian too XD

  • @elitegamebeast2 you and millions more...

  • so for power chords you try to only strum the strings that you are fretting on?

  • @leginkrik yea you dont wanna strum all the strings

  • wow reLLY helps

  • GO SABRES!!!

  • I love ironman ! = )

  • ay im Canaydian ay lol not really

  • never heard of three finger powerchords???(=

  • @bonscottboy same thing really, the third string is just the same note as the first, only an octave up.

  • do you strum all the strings

  • thanks

  • yeah

  • are u using standard e tunning?

  • please fix the intonation on your guitar

  • hahaha....wut?

  • FUCK!! It's shit !

  • what tunning do you use matey, and nice vids :]

  • nice this helped a lot :)

  • now im confused you say A-7&E-5 then you say A-8&E-6, but the little box on the screen sais A-9&E-7

  • i use another version ov iron man ;)

  • u sexy amazing bitch

  • hey bob i live in Toronto also how do you like the city

  • everytime i powerchord the last string is always ringing when i don't want it to.

  • dude this is awesome, it is the best power chord video in here. simple and explanes all whats you need. ty dude. greets from estonia

  • Problem with asking a question is getting a response. Do the power chords continue down the strings? You showed bottem E and A strings. What about the other 4? These quickie lessons leave unanswered questions.

  • @journeyquest1

They would, but when you mess with the B-string... it gets kinda weird.

B string messes up everything... bastard child of the 6-string'd guitar.

  • Very Helpful lesson, thanks, btw kickass maple leafs jersey!

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    I DONT GET IT! X'(

i gotz confused-d when he started doin PC on the A string....DX

    rawr! DX no kul mane!

  • "a power chord is made up of two notes" wrong a power chord is the root note and the 5th

  • mr crispy,can i call you bob....okay good

bob you are awesome you hav taught me so much thnx bob

  • I have a listing of killer punk amp settings perfect for Bob's power chords lesson. A bunch of heavy metal amp settings as well.

  • Bob rocks...I could listen to power chords till the cows come home...

  • HAHAHAHA! Awsome comment!

    Very inspired! ;O

  • BS....you can used stacked 5ths, sounds fucking awsome in death metal. forgot to explain what these chords are.

  • im trying to be in a band with my friends...in raleigh, nc...home of the carolina hurricanes...woo

but still, i'll be back here once i pick out a guitar

  • what about the strumming????

  • alternate strumming, up down sort of thing

  • got to love string skipping with them and harmonics lol

  • You could've mentioned that a power chord isn't actually a chord. "A power chord is a chord played with two notes" is paradoxal.

You could've mentioned that they're minor nor major, which means you have more freedom when soloing.

Also, power chords aren't necessarily played with distortion. I even hear it in singer/songwriter-type songs occasionaly, on acoustic guitar.

  • so right.

  • thanks :) what's this guitar?? i like its sound!

  • 1986 fender stratocaster with a seymour duncan pick up:-)

  • @BobbyCrispy Ah, just like Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, Only he has a Fernandes ;)

  • @BobbyCrispy t.dot represent!!!!!!

  • @medleygirl hes using distortion.

  • @medleygirl So power chords are only metal uses!Ah,that tells a billion darwins to shut up.

  • @medleygirl So power chords are only metal uses!Ah,that tells a billion darwins to shut up.I told such a before and was attacked for it???The insanity of metal=Darwin.

  • @medleygirl So power chords are only metal uses!Ah,that tells a billion darwins to shut up.I told such a before and was attacked for it???The insanity of metal=Darwin.I use chords for a change only, since each tone is a change in energy and sound etc...But music isn't tellin anyone that.

  • @medleygirl its heavy metal

  • i can't explain it any easier, what part do you not understand??

  • @BobbyCrispy hey can you make a video to show the chords really closely like G5,B5, please

  • fuck you mongolloid

  • eww what eqipment are you using

  • THANKS

  • you were playing iron man for a secound, well sort of kind like that AWESOME DuDe

  • This was really helpful since I'm mostly a piano player and I wanna go with the guitar instead ;) (wooh piano for metal! -.-)

  • omg i have been looking for this forever , thank you so so so very much . i definately subscribed . i hope you contine these lessons

i will be lookin for you at myspace ( :

  • i want to play guitar speed pickingor shredding Sir , do you have a lesson with that? i would appreciate it if so, thank you

  • get a scale chart, or a dvd lesson would be better cause u can see it visually as well, a metronome and alternate picking...the building blocks for shredding

  • Now the choice of any particluar notes to use to express a chord is called the Voicing. For the firmest statements, only the stronger related notes are chosen. The "power" chord chosen is then moved up and down the neck in a melodic fashion which will make clear whether the major or minor tonality is intended. All this makes a very Forceful expression of a simple melodic idea.

  • To make it more clear, a G major scale would be G, A, B, C, D,E,F#,G. The note most strong, musically is the G. The note Second most strong in the scale is the fifth one, here the D. The note third most strong is the third note, whether major or minor. Here we defined Gmajor for ourselves, so it would be B. The sixth note comes next, and then the seventh and then the second.

Technically the Octave, or the higher G is really the second strongest, but for practicality we neglect this.

  • thanks man, i really wanted to learn how to play metal

  • me cago en los playos que le dicen que esta tocando mal o algo asi es solo para que sepan q sabe mas carepingas

  • what are power chords is that playin more than one chord at a time?....or?..wut? im sorry im jus curious

  • You are playing only one chord at a time. The powerchords are still chords though, they just dont have as many notes in them as most of the other chords you can play on the guitar like A-major E-minor and so on..

For example if you press the first fret of the thickest string (E string) and the third fret of the A and D string you get your F-powerchord because the root note (the note on the thickest string that you pres is F), this is also the same chord the guy plays on the video at 0:20

  • see actually if u play any normal chord, it has 3 or more notes...for eg. G major has G, D and B notes...B is d note which makes it a major chord. if it is changed to A#, thn it'll become A minor chord and so on...so in power chords only two notes r used...so in G power only G and D note is played..

  • BOB the guitar player

    can he play it

    BOB the guitar player

    YES HE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!lol

  • hahaha

  • i wish i could learn guitar. i am too inpatient! it sucks

  • @Vilagen shit man you can play guitar just play how ya want to :)

  • @Vilagen To help with that, pick a song that you really like that is not complicated, and go from there. It still requires patience though, so you'll just need to discipline yourself.

  • good teacher. I needed to bush up on these lol...this made it quick :)

  • im having some problems sliding down the fretboard

  • Thank you Bob.

  • Can you answer if its better tp play 3 string powerchords with index and pinky barred or should i use crawled index, ring finger and pinky? which one is the more "right" way?

  • depends which way you feel more comfortable doing, i do it with 3 fingers as it lets you move about more easily and change into other chords far more easily, for example from e minor you couldnt play e major without a huge change in finger position if you were barring frets

  • Nice :]

    sounded clean.

  • I mean check your facts.

  • you mean get your facts straight

  • No, normally it's played in a drop tuning and on the 6, 5, and 4 strings. Duh. Bob, you need to learn your facts straight.

  • What if i want to play Cm ? or Dm ? :S

  • Go in the middle.

  • very helpful thx

  • is that a 6 string or 7 string guitar?

  • its a six string

  • de a huevo

  • thanks a lot bob! im also from canada!

  • To get distortion you turn the Gain up i guess

  • how do you get distortion?

  • all distortion is is basically that "metal" sound that you get from the amp

  • mainly press OD on ur amp and turn up the gain

  • whats up with your guitar strap

  • i like pudding...btw i subbed!!!

  • you were not clear on the third not for power chords what was it i dont understand u sed it was a 2 note thing

  • use 1st 3rd and 4th .

    you must learn it .

it´s easier to play after a bit training and you dont get spasms

  • ey guys help me with playing power chords i play them with this fingers 1st 2nd and 3rd i dont use : 1st,3rd and 4th i cant use my pinkie its realy hard for me and it sounds better when i use these fingers 1,2,3 can u help me what should i do? keep playing with these fingers or use 1st,3rd and 4th?

  • ive always used my 1 3 and 4 so i think it wrks best if you started on the right ones, keep at it tho

  • Well my sugestion is to play however u feel contrable for example i play with 1 3 n 4 and in ur case u use 1 2 n 3 anyways powrchords sound does not change with witch fingures u use :)

  • OHHHHH! CANADA!

  • Tabs coming very soon for my guitar lesson videos!! I'll post a video to notify, so subscribe to my channel if you want the notification. I'll be posting them on my guitar lesson website.

  • I'm a long time drummer who has "doodled" around with the guitar for years but am now getting serious about learning. This is a solid lesson for the beginners. I really appreciate your explanation of each note you played and where to find them. Very helpful to someone who couldn't figure out why some of my chord progressions weren't sounding just right. Thanks, I look forward to more lessons from you!

  • mine dosent sound anything like that plz help!!!!!!

  • My guitar dont sound like this

  • you need distortion

  • leafs suck...lets go caps

  • my guitar sounds nothin like tht :(

  • do u have it in tune??

  • And how do i put the tone of my strings to 0?? because my guitar doen't sound like this neither...

  • I think I'll stick to tabs....F,G,C someone didnt learn their alphabet lol

  • This guy rox

  • mine sounds nothing likes this. i dont understand

  • Turn the distortion to the end, and put the tone of your strings to 0? that might help at power chords.

  • hell yeah Iron Man kool dude

  • good stuff mate... cheers

  • u r cool man!! Thanks a ton for the lesson!!!

  • well.. i just started playin.. chords where eatin me up, couldnt switch intime to any music

now im playin power chords and sounding awesum to legends, without really doing much at all >=)

  • Haha good stuff. But if you still wanna learn the proper chords and changes etc, I found that literally slowing the song down to half speed, and practicing it on that for a day really helps. And the next day it's easy to play along to the song.

  • Nothing improves speed and accuracy like practicing slowly. It sounds weird but it is so true

  • that and doing little things like 1,2,3,4 fingering over and over again...little repetitive things that seem stupid...but they work

  • The more stupid it looks and feels, the better it works! hahahah. I love guitar

  • maple leaf suck go sens go

  • maple leaf suck lol

  • and the minors??

  • Power chords are only made up of the 1st, 5th, and sometimes 8th note in the scale, so there's no distinction between major and minor.

  • dude your the best. ima go try this!

  • thanks man this has really helped me out since i have just started playing a heavy metal guitar.

  • wtf lol my name is bob and i live in toronto dude... im totally not serious, nice ghetto guitar strap lmfao but ur fucking awesome dude

  • thanks :D

  • no dude my name is bob from toronto, canada just kidding!!!haha im a girl
