He failed to protect those who looked up to him, and now he wants to set them free of their suffering, each and every one. If you heard a headcrab zombie on fire, it seems they can still feel pain.

@omgroofelz he died while you were in the mines. he screwed himself by getting cornered in the graveyard, but it wasnt long until he would've ran out of shells. yes he was surrounded by fire, but that was fueled by 4 gas tanks which would've run out in no less than 10 minutes..

Truthfully? Even if Grigori were to survive Gordon's and his adventure in Ravenholm, the citadel explosion in episode one more than likely consumed all of Ravenholm.

@123redbook Well, you need to notice the distance of the explosion, remember. Ravenholm is actually pretty far away from the citadel if you notice. Even if it did get hit, he still could have escaped. After all, the only reason he stayed there was to kill every zombie, but the explosion would kill all the zombies if he knew. And plus, he doesn't have that far away to go to avoid the explosion.

Actually, you're supposed to protect father hrigori in the graveyard. He can be killed easily if he gets surrounded by zombies. If he dies, that is his death sound. It's not an easter egg of any kind.

Gregori doesn't die when you abandon him. He escapes to the catacombs and sets the entrance on fire. This sound is for when you do nothing and let the zombies kill him.

Well, Father Gregori can die. I was doing the gravity gun only achievement for Ravenholm, and when I got separated from Gregori at the very end, he got swarmed by fast headcrab zombies and was killed. He took a fair amount of abuse, but he wasn't invincible, is my point. I don't recall if this sound file was played upon his demise, however.
