Nicholas Burns/Barley resembles Ric Mayall with that wild, boggle-eyed look found in the British stock. The Young Ones were dregs, however, where Barley is Trustafarian scum.
Most Australians don't get Barley. You have to have that rare, cynical, reactionary type
thing to get this. Which is alright with me. Keep it underground, yeah? Well futile! Actually, I've seen people so ovewhelmed by Barley that it ALL went completely over their heads. Even: Does the pope fuck kids? ha
Loved this program. Very clever indeed, and still relevant. It went completely over most people's heads when it was originally aired on channel 4. I think mainly because people didnt see the parody i.e. it was too close to their own urban idiot lifestyle.
@Pettsvaldo Chris Morris himself when talking about Nathan Barley said that Nathan Barley's are widespread throughout the country. Go to any student union for evidence. Sheff Uni was full of them. Ironically, the Chris Morris' tribute and news site "Cookd and Bombd" itself was frequented by Nathan Barley-esque media gurus, who were rather embarassed that they very much seemed to fall into the Barley parody, what with their 'multimongia' section, etc. I noticed the site since had a makeunder :-)
Such an underrated show. Absolutely misunderstood at the time of broadcast and had such bad ratings that they showed the last two episodes back to back to get it out of the way, but I liked it from the first episode.
The really amusing thing is, people like this do indeed exist. And they're even less literate than Nathan.
Don't remind me. I lived with a few. One was living off the wealth of his family in Uni. When I left he was going on to his 4th first year. "Living the dream, man" twat
i completley agree :) i loved it, it was my kind of show it made my friday nights and made my 2005 was so off the wall i was just so into it i dont know why. It was pure genius i loved it.
Charlie Brooker used to do a lot of work with Zeppotron when they were purely internet based. He had a couple of books. Unnovations was a fake catalogue containing products like Kissmammal2000 (a manpig made from your own DNA that you can fuck) and a TV that throws shit into your stupid fucking face (a quote!).
TVGoHome was a fake TV guide, with shows like Jellyback - the spineless detective and Cunt, a show who's main character was Nathan Barley....which became Nathan Barley when made real.
personally find Dan the funniest character, his scenes with Barley are fantastic, it's the subtlety that I really enjoy e.g. the muttering of twat when he's waking off.

there is way too little Noel Fiedling in this show..I say this not just because I think he's gorgveous but because the character of the total unaware crazy noise dj is hysterical THIS IS SOME UGLY SHIT!
because the relatively few people that bothered to watch Nathan Barley, who are the folks watching this, know that already. + probably watched the Boosh back in 05. Plus they're pretty distinctive.
I watched natahn barley on one tv pointing exclusively to my right eye and The Boosh on a seperate tv on my left eye. Both sides of my mouth laughed consistintly and in synchrony. So all please do not play politics with the relative popularity of these programms and enjoy them for what they are - otherwise Ill beat everyone of you to a bleeding pulp begging for mercy

I would have preffered the title of the show to have been 'Cunt', as Charlie Brooker used to call it in his fake TV guides (TVGoHome) from years ago.
I guess that was a tad provocative though!!
Brookers best fake TV show title to date IMO are 'Hilltop Brasshead Bergerac' and 'Choo Choo Metalface Shinefright Assembly'.............genius!!!

great show. chris morris = legend.
don't know why people feel the need to have the nathan barley vs mighty boosh debate. totally different programme.
and whoever said noel fielding should be in it more is a fool. that character was featured in the series as much as was necessary.

@lyndabynda Nathan Barley = comic genius. Mighty Boosh = funny art/rock show.
