I was the only bass clarinet playing this song and it was just amazing. This song just made me love my instrument even more. Even with just the one little bass duet thing and then later on at I believe E or F with the percussion. Just made everything perfect. I sure miss this song.
The reason some of you guys are playing notes very high up in your range or low is because believe it or not, Mackey had no musical background... He didn't take band in school or anything so how else would he know if the range on that instruement is almost impossible for most highschool players to hit
@Castborg You say he had no musical background, how else would he have known instrumental ranges. I said that it's publically available on the internet lol
@Castborg he didn't exactly have "no musical background" He klnew how to read music and work computer notation programs, and got a degree in fine arts from Cleveland Institute of Music and a master in music from Juilliard.
@chaosshality I don't know anything about compensating or not, but the part that I'm playing is WAAAY up there range-wise. We're hitting high Cs (or... Bb, for those who read it in bass clef, I guess) quite a few times, and hang around high A for most of the rest. We actually play higher than the trumpets in one part, I think.
@IceCreamIslander ugh TELL ME ABOUT IT, I can't stand the range. Oh, and I own a compensating one. All it is is basically the fourth valve isn't in line with the other 3, but instead on the right side, sticking out like a sore thumb.
@ShadowedHearts I'm so mad I'm just in the 9&10 grade ensemble. I probably shouldn't complain though, I get to play Hymn to a Blue Hour at my Winter Concert.
@littlehunter97 hey is crestwood from michigan??? im from reeths puffer and we are doing harvest for our marching band show and crestwood sounds really familiar??
hoo!!! I play the french horn with this really difficult band in my school, and i'm a newbie at the horn (i previously played the mallets, then the trumpet) And i LOVE this song!! i'm still learning how to do a rip on the horn.... so far, so good!!! weeee!!!
I got this music piece this year and we have to do it for marching band. It's not that hard but not that easy either, we have to memorize the notes for the song and still have to march so it'll be a challenge but it'll be fun!
West Monroe High School Wind Symphony in West Monroe, LA played this one this year and oh my goodness I've never been so in love with a march! I'm not a fan of marches anyway so when I heard this is was just... epic. They did an incredible job with it. Yay anti-march!!
@wordpainter423 I happen to be in the band who played it. Thanks :) It was a great experience. I don't know if you caught our spring concert, but we played Godzilla Eats Las Vegas by Whitacre.
I played this song in our second band (out of 5). Definitely one of my favorite songs. I played alto sax. Fun stuff...but honestly I was kind of scared when I saw all of the quintuplets and sextuplets...oh and plus we only had a week to learn this.
where did you get the music for this? I'd like to download it for myself as I need to learn the crash cymbal part in 4 days...and im a trumpet player! PLEASE HELP!
I love this piece I don't even know how many times I've listened to it. I definetly wish there were more woodwind stuff because, lol I'm a clarinet, and we really do ave some cool parts!
I played this at the Merit School of Music in December, and the euphonium part is amazing. I love this song so much! John Mackey, you have composed the most epic piece of music ever!
Played this at Henderson Band Camp last summer, as a euphonium player, this was easily the most fun concert march I have played in a couple of years. EPIC EUPH!!!
Soooooo my band is playing this for our concert...l'm a trumpet player, this piece doesn't sound difficult, and it's not technically challenging, but some of the intervals are tricky. l like how it sounds though, this is a good piece.
