what sith the load of freight at the beginning, the SP American Freedom was once the SP Dayligh 4449 and is a PASSENGER TRAIN a load of covered freight at the first few cars makes no sense
'American Flyer' was a brand name of 'S' scale years ago; and I think one of the eastern railroads had a passenger train called the American Flyer.
The 'AMERICAN FREEDOM TRAIN' was a special passenger train that ran during the American Bi-Centennial in 1976 that toured the country and displayed historical artifacts of American progress up to that time. The SP Daylight 4449 was a star player at that time, painted in red/white/blue.
Not forgetting them; I believe that a loco in Texas pulled one leg down there. I mentioned 4449 as it pulled about 2/3 of the country, making it the star performer. During the tour, 4449 developed wheel (flange) problems, and BN diesels pulled the train for a few weeks.
@ShirakoX35 SP4449 is the only GS-4 class still running, if that's what you mean. Daylight engines have the train number on the top number board, but SP4449 no longer runs any numbered passeneger trains, so she wears her number instead.
@ShirakoX35 4449 is SP 4449's running number because she doesn't haul scheduled passenger trains anymore-the running number would be the number of the train she was operating.
It's called a Mars Light. Most all passenger diesels had them and many later passenger steam locomotives such as 4449 had them. Their purpose is just as a larger warning device but on the Milwaukee Road they were red and used for back-up and emergency stop purposes.
I'm British but I can't help playing it!

And just like they used air horns on modern steam passenger locomotives.

I think that would be too long 4 the real train
trainchugger53 3 years ago
The real train WAS this long but had diesel helpers.
Dan
amtrakf40 3 years ago
Still, if this train was to be in real life, it would be hard for a single locomotive to pull.
trainchugger53 3 years ago
@amtrakf40 Which I now know because when I posted this comment, I was a noobish 13-year-old
