beautiful embroidery on the vestments! The omiphorion looks like the western "Pallium" which is bestowed by the Holy Father on Archbishops (I guess something like 'metropolitans' in the west) on the feast of St. Agnes. It too is fastened by 3 pins. Interesting...let's pray for the unity of the east n west!
@gregorius1014 mea culpa! it's given on the feast of St. Peter n Paul...but the wool is made from sheep presented and solemnly blessed on the feast of St. Agnes (I knew she was some how related :)
What beautiful purple vestments. I am an Evangelical Lutheran (ELCA) in the process of starting my studies at the Independent Lutheran Diocese's Seminary (cross between the LCMS and the Independent German Lutheran Church, a Lutheran breakoff of the former Evangelical Church of Prussia) and the vesture in my church is plain in apperance. I hope that when I am ordained, I can emulate the wearing of your vesture, in which I give great respect to the Byzantine Rite churches.
@rwboa22 Thank you. I am a little familiar with the LCMS and ELCA (my grandparent's side goes to these churches). Regarding your wish to emulate our vesture: have you considered looking at quality chausibles? The Russian practice of using many liturgical colors actually comes from Western influence, and you probably could find good-looking Western vestments somewhere. You could put on the sticharion and orarion, but I don't know if these would fit in with your church environment.
@rwboa22 I doubt that the Lutheran Traditions would smile upon Byzantine Vestments. Roman Vestments perhaps. I am an Anglican Catholic (ACC) and we are a very High Church Liturgical tradition.
@3SRBIJACCCC It's a mission parish, just over five years old. Plans are in the works to find a new site and build an actual church. Unlike in Greece and Russia, the Orthodox Church in America receives no subsidy from the government, so funds are not as easy to come by. Not all Americans, or all Orthodox Christian Americans, are rich. Many, such as in the coal country, are quite poor.
@StealthGoblin1 All Churches in Russia, Greece, Serbia, Romania... are built by donations of the local people. Maybe some huge catedrals are helped by government, but only because they are attraction.
Bless ... Very young Orthodox ... 2 years ... 40 years journey .... thankyou very much ... i really learned much ... convert from Protestant/Charismatic background ... Where Heaven and Earth meet
