I got to see these guys for the first time in the summer of 1998 with Botch, Jesuit, and the original line up of Dillinger Escape Plan. DEP played songs from "Calculating Infinity" before it was released. There was maybe 45 people at the show.

At the least, Remission was great album. I dislike Mastodon's current sort of path, but I respect 'em to a degree. TITD, I've yet to truly hear all their work, but I enjoy them greatly. Yet the ultimate problem is Steve's musical vibe is almost like cultural war. Mastodon's war is a fantasy almost. So one is a BIT easier to digest for non-extreme music fans.

"kiss the pig" and "axis of eden" are both great records. i think "sadness will prevail" is the only weak record and i think it suffers because of the drumming.
