@TheCorseCrusher@Comediantrumpet - you are both right and wrong in some respects! The video you are seeing is of Carlos playing live, however the track is taken from one of his other recordings and has been dubbed over the top! I have the DVD and that is how I know! Carlos is in fact a simply phenomenal live musician! Had you heard the track from the DVD you would see that but would also be slightly disappointed as the noise of the crowd ruins some parts! Enjoy the video!
Carlos Nunez is just GREAT. And everybody who tries to put him down is just JEALOUS. Fortunately Carlos Nunez won´t care at all about peoplelike that ;)
Like many youtub vids this is slightly out of sync. add to this the fact that he is perhaps playing a whistle, not a recorder (different fingering), goes a long way to explain some people's confusion.
nice piece but he did not play it himself ´cause when you have a close look at his fingers you´ll see he does not palce the fingers the way as it´s supposed to in ordr to play along this piece... you can see this especially in the end with the last note where the trill is... sommetimes he moves his fingers and sometimes he does not... and you cannot move like he does AND play the recorder that well... as i said... nice piece but very bad play-back-player!!!
@Comediantrumpet Im not biased as i don't even know this musician, i got here through an eluveitie video, but he is clearly playing his instrument and ia an extremely talented musician. 'he does not place the fingers the way as it's supposed to' .....errr...yeah its quite clearly video lag, come on......
@TheCorpseCrusher no it´s not a video lag i don´t belief that...but i don´t want to argue about that... it´s just what i thought about when i saw this video... and though i have not the best thoughts about it i kinda like that tune
c'est le St Patrick An Dro, for people who don't speak french, there are a lot of "An Dro" with other melodies,An Dro means the Turn , it's a kind of breton round armdance in which we hold the little finger of our neighbour.
He uses a larger mellower sounding recorder than the ones used in schools. I have a similar instrument, and I find when playing mine that in order to seal all of the holes properly, I use more of a piper's grip, which I find feels more like playing a traditional wooden flute. Holding the instrument at an angle ends up feeling more natural, although Carlos does seem to take it to an extreme. I wonder if he shaves the corner of the mouth piece down to accommodate this...
I know it as "St Patrick's An Dro", from the "Un Galicien en Bretagne" CD... But it's a set of traditional tunes, and traditional tunes don't necessarily have one true name.
Regardless, it's one of the most haunting versions of a dance tune I have ever, ever heard! Cheers for posting!
Yes, he's a showman, but he's like Michael Flatley - he's so good it doesn't really matter what he looks like/acts like - just close your eyes and enjoy that buttery tone...
He fakes?! Uhahuahuuha nice try! I've seen a Carlos' concert and...well,HE WAS SIMPLY AMAZING!His fingers was fast on the gaita and he played his instruments with all the passion the world could contain! And his version of "An dro" was as cool as in this video! Trust me,he doesn't fake at all!
Una pregunta... que significa An Dro?
pandabbel 8 months ago

Well....since I'm a recorder-player I have to add at least that what he does with his fingers does not match the sound at all.
