Thats not quite how it went :) the Church did ban some of the work of Galileo, but that was more because Galileo, like Aristotle btw, from whom a lot of works were also banned, thought that he could a priori know how the reality MUST be. He said that the truths in nature were necessary. But since God created the universe He could have done it in other ways. So the empirical aspect of science was not yet developed that much. But Kepler did the calculations and found out Galileo was wrong
@Rekenbij The calculations then were based upon observance. Francis Bacon et alii, were firm believers in God, they however were humble enough that they could not pre-scribe how nature should be, since God could have made nature differently. But they realized that God did make nature, and so God put structure in nature, and so the first scientists were keen on seeing which structure God has put in nature. (confer Religion and the Rise of Modern Science, Reyer Hooykaas.)
@bananabread119 Thanks god the analytic philosophers are becoming less and less positivists. Thanks in part to such guys as Kripke, Putnam, McDowell and Michael Thopmson.
@CollegeBinary it would seem as though he does. well if imitation is the highest form of flattery this should be a complement. however this is a stright ripp off.

No wonder Galileo came up with the scientific method. I think the stupidity of those who opposed him drove innovation in him.
The best thing anybody could do is to have some scientific knowledge and to think philosophically. That's why I am a (biology+philosophy) major.

Simply stupid. Philosophy is science.
There is no single scientific method. Social sciences can't use the same method natural sciences use.
metaphysics, ethics, etc. is not bullshit.

@godofreudson I have to agree. The Scientific method is a form of "Positivism" who uses logical/Philosophy to deduces there inductions.

@godofreudson but as the video states (SPOILER ALERT) "... philosophy students don't really care 'cause they're having sex with women."
