Ashley Deal (Broken PIxal) directed this vid - and was also in the band. Check out his video before this for Leeds band FOSSIL COLLECTIVE - the song is called ON & ON and is on youtube
but one thing is funny - after a scene with norwegian flags (amundsen's expedition) you can see the vocalist who looks really really like Varg Vikernes. Who is also Norwegian.
AIWS- Most of iLT's music is set to important historical events that are treated < Toe-notes in trivia. But if one boards this Train, be prepared for a course in history, for it is the by-product of this band's direction. Granted, not all of their music is such but even that which is not, carry vital lessons into the human condition- Lessons that beg for us to dig deeper & reach further. Hey, I just heard Noel Coward say,
"By-Jove, you're going to learn something whether you like it or not"!
Massively brilliant video, as is per usual for iLiKETRAiNS. This may sound a bit stupid but iLTNs are the Sesame St. of adult artful literacy. I saw one post way back that praised the video but was clueless as to what it represented -"sumthing (sic) about antarctica"-
The world's youth are in the clutches of a Bevis & Butthead mentality & need desperately to close the iphone aps & pick up a book. The new millennial philosophy is, "It's not as important to BE smart as it is to LOOK smart.
It's a long story to be placed here. Wiki on Robert Falcon Scott and you get all the rest plus associated links on Heroic Era polar exploration. There you'll get to see some truly UNBELIEVABLE achievements, examples of human strength, courage, discipline, care for the companion, etc
If you're a book-eater sort of person, you can download "The Worst Journey in the World" by Apsley Cherry-Garrard (man on polar party, close friend of not on the rush-to-the-pole Scott's team). If you're more a kinda vision&sound person torrent-down "The Last Place on Earth" (1985) an EXCELLENT 8-episode TV series.
P.S.: Apsley Cherry-Garrard is the man on the video with binoculars in the One Ton Depot mirage waiting in vain for the polar party's return.
One of the BEST videos ever, matched to an EXCEPTIONAL epic song for those brave men. Oates final fall in front of One Ton depot hallucination is tragically brilliant, probably song's peak moment, where you can't help but to get that .."dust" in your eye. Inevitable happened when historically, a sequence of one thousand and one mistakes as put together by experts i.e. white tent on white snow, were coupled to exceptionally bad weather i.e. "The Coldest March".
I like the way they animate, using stop-motion animation method. I wonder how they made the model of the Terra Nova and puppets of Captain Scotts and his crew member.
read up on it. research "Robert Falcon Scott." Trust me on this because I'm not the reader type myself and I read the entire story and all of Scott's published diary entries, so you imagine how intuitive this is. This tale really touched me because these were brave men, including Scott whom still had the strength to write with pen and paper as his body froze more and more day after day. Those men gave up their lives for this expedition, and I greatly respect them for that.
It's a sad story, mostly because the deaths were so horrible and so unnecessary. Even with weather that was out of the ordinary, proper preparation could have saved their lives. The vid is ok...the only part I didn't like was the pulling down of the Norwegians tent. Just because they were better skiers, planners, sledders and managed to make it there and back alive is no reason to be sore losers.
Awesome. Saw them live last night and they we're the best band I've ever seen in terms of their live sound and performance - and I've seen a lot of bands over the past 4 years so I don't say that lightly.
The guy who plays the horn was playing it...but its sound kind of amalgamates with the rest of the guitars, bass and drums so its not easily distinguishable. Their new album in October is gunna be cracking, they played several tracks from it last night and they were great!!! :D

no it is not to everyones taste, like hope of the states, idlewild or jj72. They were all successful in way or another. It is clever though u have 2 agree?
Amundsen got there before X-mas and managed to return to the coasts of Antarctica in mid-January...
Scott got to the South Pole one month later, and it was too late even to return. His last diary entry was in the end of March when the sun had set and there was only twilight...
I recently photographed iLiKETRAiNS and The Kaiser Chiefs for a BBC documentary. The ten minute feature can me found by typing "Sarahphotogirl" into utube. Follow the "Inside Out" link to see the band in action. :)
huge fan of the scott story and all antarctica/artic exploration stuff.this is really awesome and the band style is perfect, thank god they didn't sound like foreigner or something.
I just finished "Scotts Last Expedition", the actual journeys of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, and then came across this video while searching for some archive material. What a great memorial! It almost made me cry!!! What a great way to retell their brave yet so tragical story. Truly wonderful... Okay, I'll stop now.
Love the sound...

Awesome video portraying the struggle and fall of these brave men.
Great song and presentation.
My Brother-in-Law served as Medical Officer there at the Pole one year.
One Christmas Eve he was able to call us. So one by one we all talked to him at the South Pole, that was so cool!
Thank you for posting.
Absolutely 5 *s!
