@bronxchica777 I'm not black but colour was never an issue with me people are people I looked beyond the skin and this is music but still it's good to be proud of who you are and I do appreciate the fact that in the 70s the world sort of started thinking a bit more like me I love this song and many more of his songs
@misspricey14 I DIDN'T MEAN IT IN A DISRESPECTFUL WAY, I SAID IT IN A PROUD WAY. THESE ARTISTS WENT THROUGH HELL IN THE PLACES THEY PERFORMED & WITH THEIR MANAGEMENT JUST B/C OF THEIR SKIN COLOR, NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THAT PART. I'M JUST PROUD B/C I CAN RELATE TO THEIR STRUGGLE SO YOU COULD HAVE KEPT YOUR COMMENT TO YOURSELF, YA DIG !!!!!!!!!!
GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD WHETHER OLD OR NEW-BUT ITS SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE WAS ALOT MORE OF IT IN THE 50S ,60S, & 70S ... PERCYS TALENT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF ,BUT I AGREE THIS SONG BELONGS TO SAM COOKE ..ULTIMATE SOUL"
@DasWuddItB What planet are you living on? People aren't even close to being AS civil today, so saying that they are MORE so is ludicrous. I grew up in the 60's - I was there. Cars had so much more character back then and you could modify / "supe" your own up in your own backyard - and just about everyone did. Your car was your personality. I can't stand the cars when I go looking for a new one today - they all look alike. This music is timeless - no one will know today's music 10 years from now
@DasWuddItB dude go find someone else who's a weak minded as you to argue with...I simply said I would love to have grown up in those days so shut up!!! I could care less about race all I'm saying is those days seem better then now days in a lot of ways!!!
@DasWuddItB In what world are you living??? People are not much more civil today...but whatever you can have your opinion and you can let me have mine...and of course typical you would bring race into this conversation...immature simple minded person you must be...
Sam Cook (with Lou Rawls) had the hit with this tune. Percy's voice is sadder than Sam's sweet tone could ever have been. Had not heard this version and find it very touching. Percy always was able to do the righteous man hurt by a bad woman thing so well. The Animals had a great rock version of this too. Each is very different and all are wonderful.
I grew up in the 90's and I loved it...but what I would give to grow up back in the 40's 50's and 60' all these great oldies playin...bad ass cars drivin all around and people were actually civil to each other and loved life!!!
I'm so impressed by R. Kelly's new album, "Love Letter". I just went to his Facebook and hit Like on his page, and I was able to hear the whole thing! I definitely hear some old school Percy Sledge influences on there, such a unique CD to listen to when music is so linear nowadays, fantastic CD.
my ex and i listened to this when we dated.that's the first i heard of percy sledge and i have loved his music ever since.this was back in 1974 or1975.
I Agree. I Feel Once Sam Sangs A Song It's The Best Way It Can Be Done. There's A Few Exceptions: Like Otis Reddings, Try A Little Tenderness. But Overall, For The Ones That Didn't Fall In Love With The Original. This Is A Good Interpetation. He Definitely Made It Percy Sledge.
I never get it when folks start to argue who's version is the best... Hey out there, if ya don't like this 1 then go for it ... find the 1 ya like, but don't mess around here.
In 1969 approx. he came to Cape Town and I went to 11 of his concerts. I took my Mother to one show who held her hands over her ears the whole way through. Say no more
im glad im black
