  • Agreed....

  • Just proof to all the "drummers" out there that technique will ALWAYS win over speed. For some reason people think you have to hit a drum a million times and hit as hard as you can to be a good drummer. Finesse and timing along with proper technique will always make for a better solo and well rounded drummer to be able to play ALL genres of music.

  • @MJPodcasts Couldnt agree more with you there and i am a metal drummer...id far rather play this kind of stuff than blast beats or 240 bpm pedals.

  • @MrTopcat89 white power???

  • 1:20 best part!!!

kinda remind maplestory but idont know why

  • Клас!!!

  • 3:23-3:30 JESUSMARYANDJOSEPHLORDALLMIGHTYCHRISTINHEAVEN WHAT THE F*CK WAS THAT??!!!!!

  • 3:22 "what, you think my performance was simple? Bha!"

  • most crispy drumming of alltime imo

  • After about the 10th viewing, I finally realize that every f#$*ing phrase is brilliant with near perfect execution. I couldn't love/hate Gavin Harrison more. To strive for his level of combined feel and chops is my new goal. This vid is only the tip of the Gavin iceberg, too.

And...to reduce the intro to simply "a parradiddle"? Sounds really smug and obnoxious to me. Sorry your so jaded.

  • @JohnMGiambalvo

not at all dude, I'm not even a drummer, but what the guy does on the drums

is just inspiring. Sorry if it's not a paradiddle, For a non drummer, but curious, it's close.

I can appreciate the beauty of each phrasing too!

    Peace.

  • Crap... to think i now have my drum kit and gonna take classes... this makes me feel bad.

  • I feel like cutting off my hands.

  • can someone please explain what the heck he's doing at the beginning???

is that just snare and single kick???

  • @chakobsa

Well he does play on a track... that is mostly musical...

you can hear a "tiktikaclik" that plays along at 0.07 after the first crash.

So there's him .. and a little bit of a backing rythmic...

Otherwise, the beginning is called a parradiddle !

  • @chakobsa It's a pattern of 5/8 based on a lick initially played by Steve Gadd I believe. Here, watch?v=o6nQ3eoqW_g is how to do it! Easy right? ;)

  • @sjograas

thanks for that! I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

  • Who thinks he kinda looks like Rickey Gervais?

  • @XDrummerSteve pretty sure I have an extra set or two no longer needed priced right.

  • @XDrummerSteve You need to read "effortless mastery" by kenny werner,,, it might change the way you listen to music and perceive other musicians. also "the music lesson" by Victor Wooten.

  • @XDrummerSteve hahaha, I feel your pain bro.. haven't touched mine in a while either.

  • awesome druming shame about the music

  • Wow, fuck this guy, what a mess, I shit on Gavin Harrison. Porcupine tree can line up and blow my cock, slurp slurp slurp.

  • @SquareHeadSlacker Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @SquareHeadSlacker You'll have to be more creative than that

  • 0:46 nice face gavin

  • It would be so cool if his drum shells were actually made of copper..

  • I can imagine why nobody wants to play with him.

  • Every video I've seen with Gavin he always has a badass ride with a killer bell. He is a master of his craft from performance to just simply picking the appropriate cymbals and what not.

  • This man, amazing at drums. This man's hair gel, amazing too.

  • crazy good!

  • a real monster on the drums !

  • He is very creative!!!

  • Hats OFF

  • Dirk verbeuren could play this with his chod and blindfolded !

  • @scottwork1 nope

  • Is it me or the groove in the intro of the video sounding like the ending of Cheating the polygraph by PT?

  • lost my shit at 3:23

  • @dfurnaridrummer its a 5 over 8 polyrhythm and hes playin 32nd note triplets through it

  • @dfurnaridrummer Are you saying you don't give a shit... well you better go find it then huh?

  • @dfurnaridrummer How do you even go about starting to think about playing that possibly?

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing drummer or not - the song fucking sucks

  • His off beats are amazingly cool

  • Aaron spears he plays the same fills as in this video gavin played musically and something different everytime

  • I love china cymbals.

  • 3:23-3:30 Mother of God

  • how did he do that thing around 1:00? :O

  • Jeff`s version of this is so much better .... Jeff`s groove is so much thicker and deeper than this .... Obviously Gavin is a great drummer with great chops and clever cymbal work but whatever ... he lacks the soul that Jeff had , whatever that means ... Long live the great Jeff Porcaro

  • He had a double kick right? If he didnt im gonna hang myself.

  • This guy gets it. An awesome display, and an inspiration. Thanks for posting!

  • Noice!

  • blown away

  • i have such a huge boner right now....

    and i am female.

  • @MajaLifer Wow see this is why i hate seeing this faggy kids just trying to be cool first of all females, can have boners. So go outside, play with a ball and come back online when your old enough to have your own balls if that time ever comes.

  • gavin you are gooooooooooooooooood!

  • Wow...

  • Favorite drummers in the world-

    1. Jeff Tain Watts

    2. Gavin Harrison

    3. Thomas Haake

    4. Tyshawn Sorey (Sorry I like youth and diversity of styles, so many greats)

  • Steve Gadd would be be proud of these hi-hat patterns. Gavin has mastery over many styles of music (here-FUNK!) prog, metal, jazz, and has played big band before he became famous. Awesome stuff!

  • Every one of those fills was the best fill I ever heard.

  • Comment removed

  • wtf that was the most musical piece Ive ever seen any drummer play

  • pazzo.

  • He's amazing

    I need your help!

Vote for me in the drummer of tomorrow contest at drummeroftomorrow dotcom

  • This is absolutely some of the most creative drumming i've ever heard. talk about playing around with phrasing, then add on top of that ridiculous technique in every aspect (finger roll that crescendos, anyone?) as well as perfect pocket.

  • How can you complain about Gavin Harrison using rudiments when any drummer worth his salt should know and use them. Then you go on to mention Aaron Spears who basically plays triplets between hands and feet for virtually every single fill he does.

The way he manages to do outrageous shit yet still manage to stay in the background and let the melodies be the focus of the song is simply amazing. Give it a couple of years and people will be talking about him and having to Wiki Dennis Chambers.

  • 0:45 - omg, he's just a cymbal commander

  • amazing!

  • 1:01 so cool shit man!!!!

  • i love the sound of his snare!!

    is that a 12" snare?

  • totally reminded me of an 80's porno soundtrack. it was the best soundtrack ever...

  • "I'm above, over you I'm standing above"

    Masterpiece

  • 2:25 whaaat ? ; oo

  • God exists. And he is a drummer.

  • @JCesarDT he just isnt this guy

  • @AliagaDavid dude he is the greatest fusion drummer ever.

  • Is he playing on his signature snare drum?? the video was uploaded in dec 2008 so this video has to be older, but if I remember correctly his signature snare was released summer 2010....

  • Gavin is so good i bet he can play rudimentary on his snare.... with his dick, alone.

  • 1:02 = win

  • !!! CZAD !!!

  • he's ok a lot better than travis barker lmao but he is not on like an aaron spears type of level

  • @daryn7 i wouldnt say that

  • @420jaymac he just seems like a very solid drummer with his rudiments and grooves he doesn't really bring anything i haven't seen before groove wise or anything really he is really good tho

  • @daryn7 All right, let's see your cover of this to prove that you know what you're talking about.

  • @daryn7 that's the dumbest statement i've heard in my life, you do not have proper knowlegde to make such an rash accusation, there is no "the best drummer " every drummer is different, both in skill and creativity, derfore every one is good, whatever level they play at, thank you for your time sir.

  • @Shinachiro did i say anything about his creativity or style? he just didn't do anything that made me super impressed he is a great drummer but i just prefer other styles and more diverse music..lol and not everyone is good...so thank you for your time sir lmao

  • @daryn7 Can't tell if troll or just dumb.

  • @EatSleepGrow watch an aaron spears video and see which drummer impresses you more..or a chris coleman or jerome flood or max roach art blakey buddy rich dave weckl ...am i still dumb? you could even watch tommy igoe..ahah don't get my comment messed up he is a really good solid drummer just didnt really impress me much he didnt do anything for me to watch this video twice lol

  • @daryn7 I'm not quite sure why you are more impressed by aaron spears than by harrison. Gavin has the technique and musicality. aaron spears my have technique but his musical sense is not comparable to harrison's. same with coleman (really impressive technique). dave weckl and buddy rich are almost unreachable considering both aspects. but gavin is really one of the best prog-rock drummers ever! don't underestimate him!

  • @buzzardkill see i respect your opinion because you dont make idiotic remarks like these idiots..i really do think he is good but all i really see is rudiments and i have both aaron and chriss dvds and they are extremely original in their music but like i said he is a good drummer just to ME he is a lot of the same rudiments and fills the whole time

  • @daryn7 which rudiments is he using the whole time? Apart from the double stroke roll.

  • @drumsetdemon you answered the question yourself he is rolling the whole time..he uses a few diddles but thats it just doubles

  • @daryn7 Interesting you should mention Aaron Spears who is known for his blazing chops. If you understand Harrison's philosophy in drumming and music in general, you'll understand not how he plays but why he plays a certain fill or groove. Listen to the music as a whole, his subtleties are his signatures, not blazing triplets all across the toms.

  • @diamus3 you got to understand im not talking shit about him i just mentioned hes not on aaron spears level and hes not he is a good drummer but he doesnt compare to someone like aaron who has a vast amount of chops not just triplets. but on that note they both have an extremely DEEP pocket but i feel like when a drummer is given a chance to show his skills he shouldnt hold back i just dont see him picking his licks like other drummers that I look up to..just an opinion tho lol

  • Wow, great drummer, great groove, great musician i don't know his band but i'll listen =]

  • that splash cymbal rack goes so hard especially at 3:23

  • @DaJmsta It's the same pattern as the intro. :D

  • 3:22 ...how? XD

  • I love how he just drags his sticks across his toms. Who else would've thought of that?

  • 1:02 has to be the most epic fill in history

  • 3rd time i'm here.......today.

  • Top 3 Favorite Drummers:

  • Gavin is an awesome drummer!!!

  • This was originally with Jeff Porcaro on drums, nice interpretation!

  • Finger roll at 2:50 is super hot.

  • nice yeahhh ¡¡

  • Gavin Harrison = BIG PERFECTION & BIGGEST LOVE. congratulations mickeyBY

  • THIS GUY! This guy is a boss!

  • 23 persons think AC/DC's drummer is better than Gavin.

  • @TheJopato and I don't think he's worse.

  • The cameraman came at 3:35 ^^

  • I wonder if that kit is over 18.

  • why do i still drum if he can play like this

  • I don't understand what people are saying when they say he's just "filling all the space" by playing "a bunch of notes." Are you even listening to the track going on behind him? He clearly chose this piece because it enables him to play busy without getting in the way of any other phrases going on around him. It's just loops the whole time. There are no solos, or melodic undertones that are being buried beneath his playing. And remember, he's playing at a drum festival for god's sake.

  • is that a 12" Snare?

  • You can tell Gavin had very high respect for Jeff! In turn makes me have even higher respect for Gavin... R.I.P. JEFF PORCARO & hearts out to Mike Porcaro who now suffers with ALS also known as lou gehrig's disease...

  • oh yeah another great drummer that i knew on youtube cool + Great + imba!

  • Lol but it doesn't matter. This guy is good in his world, Blake is in his own

  • This guy is good, but Blake Richardson is better

  • Very nice:)))
