  • legends gods townsend beautiful thank u

  • The Who proves again and again that power does not come from amps, it come from the soul. Your children's children will be enjoying their music and they will pass it on to their children. Pete writes such incredible lyrics and Roger adds passion to those words, the music just brings it all together.

  • love the way pete smiles when roger's vocals match his guitar! makes for brilliant music!

  • I wasn't there when this one was filmed. But I was there the first time they played this one live - Philadelphia 2006. Not a dry eye in the house.

  • @koenan1 I was there to..and you sure do speak the truth man..very moving

  • @bennyhaist Yeah, I know. We sat next to each other. I'm your brother.

  • Is it sad to say The Who has helped save me from suicide? I love this band, this song is beautiful, and their messages through each song is moving.

  • That stuff is never 'sad' (in the negative or pathetic sense), and don't let anyone tell you different. Rock on!

  • @Zebonka Thanks:)

  • @ActualReality86 For a lot of us deep fans, the truth of Pete Townshend's words has been the only thing sharp enough to pierce our depression. That was the case for me for a long time, friend.

  • @koenan1

That means a lot. I especially go through that a lot when I listen to Pinball Wizard. Pete Townshend is simply amazing, his talent. I just get lost in his words and realize things will be better I just have to get over the huge part that's going on and no matter what I will over come.

  • @ActualReality86 It's absolutely not sad at all, in any sense of the world.

  • @ActualReality86 That just shows the power of music, and especially from such a tremendous band as The Who...

Hugs man, long live THE WHO!!!

  • @fayala1990

:) Thanks. Yea, I ended up getting an A - on my project over The Who:) So it works! But Pete Townshend is simply amazing.

  • Can I really tell anybody times to drink from a fountain of youth care for Roger and Pete? The Who - or rather, the remaining original members - rock still are putting into the bag, which is now called "rock stars"and nothing more than provide cheap scrap chart! Have at times in youtube "Endless Wire" is inside - this disc is the next day on my grocery list! Rocking greetings from Germany!

  • i just spent 22 min looking for this. thank you.

  • Seeing Pete with his pick in his mouth at 0:45 makes me glad that I'm not the only guitarist who does that. My friends--even the ones who play guitar, too--keep trying to tell me it's a disgusting habit; I just think it's a handy place to put them when I'm not using them in a song.

  • @AngelofMusic2288 if there is one person who can do it it's that guy, and no one should say a word. Plus that's the best spot i know to put it while im picken.

  • Our Band

  • I wish that the studio version was more like this

  • Tea & Theatre is the standout song from Endless Wire for me, both music and lyricswise.

Very moving to think how these 2 guys have come to appreciate each other and their friendship over the course of their life/career. When younger they were at each others throats sometimes but now they're forever bonded together by the unique life journey they've travelled with the Who:

    We did it all

    didn't we

    Jumped every wall

    Instinctively

A tribute to John & Keith too. Their final encore, surely will be?

  • I love The Who so much that I really cried imagining a guy like Pete writing such an emotive song and showing to Roger for him to sing... knowing a little about this band makes it an unforgettable piece of sentimental music to me... makes me sad and happy everytime I listen to... :´-)

  • I think you should keep your opinions to yourself StraightTwoDVD, Why would you even comment unless you love the WHO like the rest of us do. When you can feel the emotion in this song. My God, there were four and now only the two. Age sucks and one day there will be No MORE WHO. Enjoy this song and treasure the love The WHO has given us this almost 50 years. Love you Pete and Roger.

  • Listen to this watching it live like I did in Sydney and try not to have a tear in your eye thinking is it the last time I will see my beloved band !

And fuck all you twats who slag off pete and his from the heart lyrics.

  • Thank you ! Love The WHO !!!!

  • Pete's smile at 3:47 - no one tires of a pleased crowd!

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and rogers voice is shot...pete should just sing the flucking forgettable song

  • @StraightTwoDVD wtf is wrong w/ u? i'd like 2 know! don't comment if ur going 2 b an ass! i love this song and all the who's songs 4 that matter. Roger is getting older but just because he can't scream like a wild maniac anymore doesn't give u the right 2 dis him. and its not a forgettable song its one of the only songs by the who that can't make me sad, so there i've said my mind! don't reply is ur just going 2 be rude!!

  • You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to be an insulting jackass. Cut it out.

  • @Zebonka nice!!

  • This song tears me to pieces. What a great song.....

  • This song... this song... everytime makes me well up a bit. Two old friends, sharing a stage with a guitar and a cup of tea. Pete's guitar, lyrics, and music, and Roger's voice... Roger's VOICE... my GOD is this a potent combination.

Their maturation from Pete's 3 minute singles to their angst-ridden rock anthems to... this... describes the progression of my life like a mirror. I can't express how much The Who's music has been a beacon, a guide, an expression throughout my life.

  • Anybody know what kind of guitar pete is playin?

  • @MrHatrick3 It would be a Gibson. Don't know the model.

  • @MrHatrick3

    It's a Gibson J200.

  • That is such a sad song-- even if you don't know their history...

    Sad but beautiful

  • is it about keith moon?

  • It's chilling when you see this live and 20,000 people that have been jumping round for 2 hours just stop dead.

  • oh my gosh..I LOVE ROGER DALTREY!!!

  • @emigoss Great minds think alike!

  • I watched this on TV.

    Clap Clap CLAP

  • wow.......so much emotion in this song. You can see it, and hear it, in Roger's voice. The lyrics are so significant about the band. When the band finally does play their last concert, this HAS to be the final song they play.

  • @trkinch My beautiful! Love him so much!!

  • "Absolutely one of the best written songs of all times. What is your favorite zinger line in this song. Alot to pick from. Mine would be "we did it all, didn't we?"

  • Endless wire is a strong album, it has some great songs , tea and theatre, , fragments, mike post theme , and the mini opera Wire and glass.

  • I am a 16 year old kid who never lets any emotion in or out, but because all The Who has done to get me through my teenage years, they are like a part of myself, and I cannot help but cry every time I hear this song. Nothing else ever makes me cry, but this always does.

By the way, I can't figure out who the either man represents, does anyone know?

  • At the time it was released, Pete claimed that it wasn't about the band but it was about the characters in his mini-opera.

Since then he's sort of admitted that it's about The Who, in a roundabout way at least.

  • @ZAcKHINN

It's about the death of John Entwistle (mostly) . Probably Keith too.

  • @ZAcKHINN I'm 44 and I'm totally feelin' also . ty

  • @ZAcKHINN I know exactly how you feel. I'm about you're age and the Who means the same to me, like my arm or part of my soul.

  • @ZAcKHINN i think this is a song about the relationship between Pete and Roger. Im not sure but if you watch the interview they did at Rock Honors, they talk about their tumultuous relationship over all these years. Its a beautiful song. Never hold emotion in. Showing emotion means you feel something and your human. Music is a universal language. We all find comfort in it. Let your music guide you and let your emotions show. You will die inside if you don't express yourself.

  • lean on my shoulder now ,just cracks me tears just flow cant help it so mutch emotion in the song

  • Cheers to Roger and Pete! God Bless!

  • I LOVE this song so much, but it makes me cry like a baby. Pete Townshend has written some of the most affecting lyrics I have ever heard, and this song is no exception. Roger's voice has got even better with age too, such emotional intensity, and still a fantastic range. I love these guys, still, after all these years. They have enriched my life immeasurably.

  • wow, but at 3:38 pete's crying?

  • We love the WHO !!!! Thank You for this song ! I have the words printed out on my wall. Just wonderful.

  • I am gonna make my 2 teenagers sit still and watch every second of this video. If they move or say a word before it is over, I will beat them mercilessly.

    I owe it to them.

  • If your arms get tired let me know!

  • There was only one song that could make me weep everytime I heard it (The Ave Maria), until I heard this one. I just saw them perform this on VH1 Rock Honors and I had to fight back the tears. There is no band ever that can touch The Who. Townshend has written the soundtrack of my life.. I'm 42 and I will carry their music to my grave.

  • Beautifully put!

  • 2:45, wow roger still has it. this is a great song

  • one question i want answerd is wich songs roger wrote for the who i know he helped on anywhere anyhow but there were two others can someone tell me wich ones

  • 1 the song is anyway anyhow anewhere

2 he also wrote see my way on a quick on

  • and Early morning cold taxi

  • AH, i couldnt remeber... thanks...

ps wasnt that co-writen with someone?

  • @profjohnfrinks + now I'm a farmer.

  • i think helped write summer time blues

  • huh nothats not the whos song they do a cover of it eddie cochran wrote it

  • Proof that Pete is still writing great stuff and Roger is still belting it out better and singing with more passion than punks half his age.

  • Wow. This is just. Wow.

  • It was just as wow last night :) I got to see them live, lemme tell you it was amazing. They still have it.

  • is that the acer arena performance, because i went to see that,it was marvelous

  • Beautiful. After 30-odd years of being a Who fan, I got to see them March 2009 in Auckland, New Zealand. Just stunning. So epic and this was a lovely, intimate finish to a brilliant show. Thanks for posting.

  • My pleasure!

Seeing them at the Perth show this weekend, can't wait!

  • the whole show was great. they did a few numbers from "tommy"

  • this song is great, and also, these guys are great. The world and rock will never be the same when either of these guys are gone. I wish people could live forever, as i'd keep these two...I want to go to one of their concerts, id do anything to hear one of their songs like this live. Long live rock, and long live Roger and Pete.

  • This video is a real kick in the ass to those who think Roger has lost his vocal talent due to his age. He has just never been terribly consistent. I remember hearing things thirty years ago that were not that great, yet the next night he would be back on. He still has it.

  • Right on. He's coming to my city for the first time ever in April, and to be honest I don't much care if he has a good night or an off one, as long as they do this song.

  • As a forty-something who has travelled the world chasing rock bands, this is one of the most powerful, emotional things I have ever seen.

  • As another forty-something who has done the same, usually to Holland to see Golden Earring, I agree. This is insanely good.

  • They're coming to my city for the first (and probably last!) time in April. I'm really, really, really hoping they play this song. It would mean the world to me.

  • I heart Pete Townsend's nose! <3

And I love this song as well. Very peaceful.

  • "By viewing this video, you agree not to take it down for copyright reasons. Failure to comply will result in me uploading it again."

Uhmmm...I'm not sure if that'll work.

  • There's just something so pure and raw about this song when it's played without the drum track...

  • what does every one think of endless wire?

  • I love it, but it's not perfect. Things like "Fragments", "In The Ether" or "Trilby's Piano" can easily go over a listeners head.

On the other hand, "Man in a Purple Dress" and "Mike Post Theme" are (to my mind) exceptionally good. The mini opera has it's moments as well.

My favourites were Tea & Theatre, Black Widows Eyes, and Sound Round; even if it was only like a minute long!

  • this is a big change from a lot of their pre-1990s work. Nonetheless, it works, and it's a great song

I saw them in DC, and it was amazing.

  • I too saw them in DC at Verizon Center, my first time seeing them live though I've been a fan since I was a teen back in the 80's. Was never old enough or otherwise wasn't able to see them. I finally did! For the past 4 decades or more, they do keep evolving in their music as they continue to evolve as musicians and people. I just ordered "Endless Wire" and the Deluxe"Who's Next" and cannot wait to listen. This video, is appreciated. It has helped to keep alive a night of cherished memories!

  • They're finally coming to Perth (the small Australian city where I live) and it'd make my night if they play this song.

  • you might not like this song if you dont know much about the who, but have some fucking respect you faggot

  • I personally love the woh. Everything they did before John Entwistle died was purely golden and amazing. Now they are simply arrogant. When they had a whole arena dedicated to honor them, they went up on stage and played like they were being forced to. Pete Townshend is musically a genius and all the things they wrote about before the 1990's talked about disrespect and their own thing. This is way out of their style and I think its a terrible song.

  • Of course the subject matter in their work has changed. It's called growth; who wants to be a 60 year old guy singing about being an angry Mod?

  • the stones are way past 60 and their subject matter seems out of context but they still perform it

  • The Stones have never been in the same league as either the Who or the Beatles. God only knows why they're so famous.

The fact that they're still playing their hits is kinda meaningless in comparison.

  • amen...

  • all i was trying to say is have some respect

  • really because from your message, you had a few more things to say than that

  • When was this song written?

  • It was released in 2006, but Pete indicated that it might have been written while John was still alive.

In any case I imagine the meaning changed a bit once he died.

    Great song.

  • What a beautiful song, all their love for each other, for Keith and John, and their experiences in life is in it.

Best performed in a small theatre like this one. Thanks Jools!

  • Absolutely Beutiful... Brings tears to my eyes...There is just so much feeling in this song. Gotta love THE WHO.

    I miss Keith and John.

To anyone who doubts that the who are any good. Take some money. Buy a Ticket to a Show. Go see it. then Tell us . Because you obviously havent before. When you come back nd cant her for a week. YOu'll know they are better than anyone else.

  • The same happens with me so I totaly agree.

  • i only wish i could see them

  • Any turd that acts like this song isn't a WHO song needs to see them live.

Then maybe they'll shut the hell up.

  • The Punk and the Godfather has some easy rhymes, but the verse sang by Pete is incredibly deep and emotional

  • In the Pantheon of Rock Gods These two have my heart. I absolutely adore this song.

  • "The Who Sell Out" has always been my favorite cos it's so weird-fake commercials allover the place-overall it's their funnest album-but alas-that was over 40 years ago and i'm glad to see the 2 of them working together again.

  • roger daltrey is the greatest singer in all of music history by far..amazing..and punk and the godfather is not as bad as you make it sound tranchera its not one of their best songs but its still a good rock song

  • You must forgive Tranchera,

he thinks "Face Dances" was the best Who album.

  • That's dumb to think that, It obviously isn't.

  • @bennyhaist He's also the most stunningly beautiful human being on God's green earth! Gorgeous, angelic, celestial, heavenly...no one is cuter!

  • i absolutley LOVE the acoustic guitar in this song

    its beautiful

  • Great song but too short. This I think is one of their best makes you reflect on your life. I would love to see an extended version. Pete and Roger nailed this song. Long live the MIGHTY WHO!

  • this song just fits so well doesn't it

  • Yep,

    it has everything.

  • raw emotion from rodger and pete a lovely way to end the set

  • Generally speaking, one should ignore anyone who begins a sentence with 'Real Who fans know' or 'if you're a real Who fan'.

Besides, 'The Real Me' was way better than 'Punk and the Godfather'.

  • The Real me is better indeed.

  • That could be one of THE dumbest things anyone has ever written down in the history of writing.

  • I'm sorry, I just HATE that song! I don't know why!

  • I love this song so much more without the drum machine in the background

  • so do i.

  • doo dootssh do do doo doo tssh

  • I really dislike tea after watching this video

  • Guh, Roger looks like he's gonna cry at 1:54. Understandably. D:

This is such a great song. This performance of it especially.

  • @GuiltyDingo Hold me, Roger! <3

  • I just saw it on the boob tube. Incredible!

  • oh my god. i went to the vh1 rock honors show and they sang this song last, i almost died. like woah. they are real rock stars. they are in it for the music, not just for the lifestyle. i teared up when i heard it.

i love you roger and pete!

    huggss<3

  • I watched it on T.V. and wanted to tear up.

You can tell Roger is feeling every single word that comes out of his mouth, even after all these years, and I respect the hell out of that. They are a great band. Legendary.

  • My angel!

  • i WAS THERE AND IT MADE ME WANT TO HUG THE TWO REMAINING MEMBERS OF THE BADN THAT MEANT SO MUCH TO ME..

    lOVE REIGN OVER ME....

    fUCK OFF

  • Excuse me? 'Fuck off' ?

Would you be happier if I took the video down, then?

  • lol

  • This by far I think is the best song on The Endless wire. The only problem was too short. Would love an extended version. I say this is one hell of a great cd my favorite. Pete's talent really showed. I hope they do more!

  • Of the several live versions of this song, they nailed this one far and away. Roger couldn't hide the fact he felt the power of his performance while he sang, and neither could help stealing a glance at one another right after the song ended - with tempered smirks joy. They still have it -if only once in a while.

  • Aside from the studio version, this one is by far my favourite.

  • I couldn't agree more!!!!!! Wow what a great song, it say's it all.

  • Happy Birthday Roger! Many more! "Be lucky!"--Anyone heard that before? I love that Roger says that to end the shows.

  • Goosebump time

  • Grown man 'n' all, but I cried when I heard it the first time.

  • Still one of the best bands around.

    RIP Keith and John.

  • the who still kick ass

  • very few can write music like Pete Townsend. This is one awesome song performed by the greatness of what is left of the who. It is right that Zack Starr is the drummer.

  • This video gives me chills. What a powerful song.

  • It gives me the chills too!!!! They are still great!!!!!!

  • I have listened to them throughout their career, and it appears true that you can get better as you age gracefully. Two for tea!

  • Well put!

  • This is such an emotional song. Is this song about them. I may be reading into it but the lyrics seem to be about Keith & John & also Pete & Roger.

  • Pete denied that, but he was apparently pleased that people were reading into it that way, so yeah. Everyone wins!

  • I've noticed a pattern with Pete in interviews and stuff over the years. In the way that he may make a comment which may be quite personal about himself or band members and then think '£$%^£% i'm in an interview' and then say something really shocking about them. Making you think 'How can you say something so cruel?' When I wonder whether that's just throwing people off the scent.

  • If there's one universal truth in the world of rock it's that Pete Townshend dissembles in interviews.

He doesn't seem to like being thought of as an introspective songwriter, so he'll take something like "Behind Blue Eyes" - which is so obviously personally - and attribute it to some character from some play which never saw the light of day.

  • This comes from a guy with six bottles of wine in his gut,

but right on, man. You fucking nailed it.

  • I totally agree with you. Stand by Me on Endless Wire is such a love letter to Roger from Pete for being his friend. And then They made my dream come true was an acknowledgement of the part the whole band played in their success. But yes, this song certainly seems to be about them all. If it was written before John's death, it would make more sense.

Roger feels the lyrics so poignantly that it never fails to move me to my core when I hear him sing it. Keith and John would've been proud.

  • I tried to reply to someone's comment a couple of pages back...so why did it pop it here?! Bother!

  • this is really a good song!

  • Zebonka,

Where do you buy this DVD?

  • I didn't buy it!

The Roundhouse show was on TV some months ago ; someone recorded it, included some other appearances (Parkinson, Letterman) and uploaded it to longliverock dot org

If you've got bittorrent, it's pretty easy to get - and well worth the download!

  • old is gold.forget future!

  • Great tune..Great CD

  • The roudhouse was defo a top show, well worth a dvd, the new songs shine.

  • is this a complete "Wire and Glass" performance? I haven't seen any of the complete rock opera

  • Don't quote me on this... I think the Roundhouse show had all of Wire and Glass except for maybe one song. I'd have to have another look at the DVD.

Which is awesome, by the way, I heartily recommend getting it!

  • looks about 35-40 good god he's looked after his health and voice
