The movie was a stand alone story with no cross reference. In the movie, Vera even became the Prime Minister's wife. The only legacy that the series inherited was that the external shot of the building for the opening and closing credits had to be filmed again in colour for the movie; as Australian TV was still black and white. When colour TV came to Australia the following year they used the movie's footage for the credits, as well as the new soundtrack theme from the movie.
