All of the Journey singers are excellent singers, I just love Steve with my heart like so many of us so I can become easily bent out of shape regarding him.
I'm not a journey fan but I think AP is the perfect replacement this time since today is in a different generation of music. His voice is more powerful eventhough SP is still the best when it comes to hitting those high notes

Jeff Scott Soto is a friend of a friend and I saw him in Houston. Great performance. Neil Schonn likes to get trashed but great guy nonetheless. I think Jeff got the shaft on that deal but not sure. He will always find work so no great loss.

I have said this before and I will say it again. All these clips are live clips since the only Studio recording available at the time would have been perry so i chose to use nothing but Live. As for not being able to hear Soto's voice I was limited in the number of recordings of Soto I could find. That is the best I could do
Yeah, there's not much Soto stuff out there... But if you took a live performance that's released on a cd or dvd or something, chances are it isn't all that "live"... even live performances are re-mixed and mastered before they are released on a disk, so they'll sound better, naturally...

for me, Dean C. is the closest voice to Steve P. but he's happier being the heartbeat of the band; Arnel P. is the better frontman. What Journey needs is a wizard who can bring the magic back and place them in the pedestal once again. By the looks of it, we're on our way up!!!!

hugo is singing the last chorus. his voice is slitghly diffrent from perry because he says it his own way. also hugo doesnt have a strong voice as perry. hugo is the closest voice to perry in this video.

to me there is no comparison, perry will always be amazing and can never be fully replaced. Arnel is incredible though, their voices are kind of similar
u cant compare the newbie to perry... perry wrote those great songs not pineda... let's see him compose songs then lets compare... vocal pitch or whatever is like 10% of what it takes... back in the philippines, its easy to find great pipes from the gazzilion live band and karaoke singers in that country... but setting down the words and weaving the music that has come to mean a lot to millions is what makes steve perry incomparable... for now, pineda is no more than a cover singer..

I don't think you were fair to Hugo. He's actually a lot better than you gave him credit for in terms of having steve perry's tonality and mannerisms. His volume was low as well.
After hearing this audio defintely arnel has the better voice of them all. Sorry, but that's what I can tell. Notice in Perry's voice he shorti'n the high notes and it's sounded like a little poppy dog but it's ok still sounds nice. But over all the best is arnel no doubt about it.

JSS has the most full and powerful voice (though you can't really tell from this video), which also makes him sound totally different than the others. It's like hearing Sammy Hagar singing older Van Halen hits... sorta.

There's a difference between reminding you of something and sounding like something. Perry reminds me of his idol Sam Cooke during certain songs, but he never sounded like someone trying to imitate Sam Cooke or a Sam Cooke impersonator. I like the tribute band, but the vocalist (take it from a pro) needs to use a diaphramed vocal not head voice.
Perry, Augueri and Pineda all use 97% gut and maybe, maybe 3% falsetto. The tribute singer uses the reverse. Just a thought from a vocalist.

for me, Dean C. is the closest voice to Steve P. but he's happier being the heartbeat of the band; Arnel P. is the better frontman. What Journey needs is a wizard who can bring the magic back and place them in the pedestal once again. By the looks of it, we're on our way up!!!!

u cant compare the newbie to perry... perry wrote those great songs not pineda... let's see him compose songs then lets compare... vocal pitch or whatever is like 10% of what it takes... back in the philippines, its easy to find great pipes from the gazzilion live band and karaoke singers in that country... but setting down the words and weaving the music that has come to mean a lot to millions is what makes steve perry incomparable... for now, pineda is no more than a cover singer..

After hearing this audio defintely arnel has the better voice of them all. Sorry, but that's what I can tell. Notice in Perry's voice he shorti'n the high notes and it's sounded like a little poppy dog but it's ok still sounds nice. But over all the best is arnel no doubt about it.

JSS has the most full and powerful voice (though you can't really tell from this video), which also makes him sound totally different than the others. It's like hearing Sammy Hagar singing older Van Halen hits... sorta.
Hugo would have been great as the 2nd guy back in the days after Perry.
Arnel's got youth on his side, which is very important for ridiculously straining songs like Journey's.

There's a difference between reminding you of something and sounding like something. Perry reminds me of his idol Sam Cooke during certain songs, but he never sounded like someone trying to imitate Sam Cooke or a Sam Cooke impersonator. Arnel Pineda sounds like someone trying to IMITATE Steve Perry.

Steve Perry(a legend) set the vocal standards for Journey's songs. But he's not reuniting with the band(so far), Steve A. is good, JSS is also good but different style, Hugo V. looks like Steve P. but lacks voice power. Arnel Pineda has a very high powered vocals with uncanning pitch similarity to Steve P. It doesnt matter what race you are. You cant deny a "pure talent", band singer or even karaoke singer, a talent is a talent.

Just because they found someone who sounds a little bit like him does not mean the person will duplicate Perry's success, anymore than an Elvis impersonator can duplicate Elvis' success.

For me , in the impersonation category, Arnel is the best. Better than Augeri, and way better than Hugo. His vocal potential is really wide and is a pity that he HAS to necessarily sound just like Steve Perry to pay his bills.

You still don't get it, do you? Arnel is not impersonating anybody, he's got his own voice. And for your info. impersonators lipsync more than singing with their own voices. You've been posting around these videos like so the nth time. So we get it, that you're a Perry supporter and admire him so. Your choice and opinion, everybody's got one and is entitled. Just don't force yours on everybody else's.

impersonating SP. He was doing a cover of Journey so how would you expect him to sound like? Elvis? FYI, Journey with Arnel have already recorded new materials for their new album. So just wait and see how he would sound like in these new songs. Stop playing stupid!! I know you're

I always knew Journey was a RANK HOMO band. Now they have achieved their most ultimate of dreams... to own a 10 year old little Filipino boy! Now they can have fresh Filipino-boy love all the time, on tour, off tour, while recording... YUMMY YUM-YUM. I've heard Michael Jackson is joining them on tour this year. There is going to be steamy man-boy love going in Neil's bus this tour ... GOOD pick fellas! a perfect match- a little 3rd world boy for a band with a little 3rd world talent! :O)
