  • What's in the box?

  • Brad Pitt"Whats in the BOX!"

  • I never noticed that 'Where there's a head, there's hope' allusion

  • I got this in a Coen Bro's boxset,haven't watched yet,should I?

  • they didnt know about 1932 "flesh" when they made this..a wrestling pic with wallace berry..

  • "Either the wallpaper goes, or I do."

  • If you need anything, pick up your personal in-room telephone, My name is Chet.

  • We'll be hearing from that crazy wrestler, and I don't mean a postcard.

  • The trailer gives away a bit to much.

  • @andlee71694 I completely agree. Thy should focus on Fink in the trailer and let the viewer discover the Goodman angle by themselves. I hate it when trailers do this.

  • This movie is a work of art. And this is an excellent trailer. Luckily I never saw until after I saw the movie. Because this damn trailer gives away the ENTIRE damn movie. When I first watched the movie, the whole Mad Mad Mundt thing was a total shock surprise. I'd have hated to see this trailer beforehand.

  • The most Kafkaesque film! Loved it! The Coens are the best thing to happen to cinema.

  • everytime I watch this film I end up feeling depressed and ... strange afterwards. I can't really explain it. I definitely think this is the most powerful film by the Coens. It took me a few viewings to say that. I've tried to figure out what all of it is about too... I assume there's no other choice but to have my own perspective on it.. The box that is given to Barton Fink near the end of the film is what catches my attention the most. Also check out Fargo, Blood Simple, Raising Arizona.

  • ya think this trailer hinted towards the contents of the box enough?

  • @dcorps whats in the box tho ? i couldnt figure it out from the movie or the trailer, i just wattched the movie

  • How could John Turtorro stoop so low to act in Transformers? Was he doing it for his grandkids (if he has one)?

  • It is dark, it has a strong undercurrent and it is inherently Coen. Taking bits and pieces from great masters like Hitchcock, Kubrick, Polanski, Lynch - they have created their own comic masterpiece. An experience so strange and eerie that it will drive you mad !

Watch some of our shorts on youtube channel ||| mypixelstory |||

tag along with indie spirit !

  • 1:59 is why John Turturro is my hero

  • I'm going to have to watch this movie ten more times to figure out what exactly it's about... and I'm okay with that.

  • @appletinihamshire It is about the honest writers which have ideals for witting, but cant make it anywhere, because deep, serious and artistic scenarios dont attract public (and money) and also, even when you make some good play-script-novel, your best is to TRY to reach experiance of the "common man", but you could never do it, because writing itself makes your life easier at least a little bit (of course, for the speciffic group of writters which is Torturo representing on film)..

  • @appletinihamshire When given a "task" to write, such writters feel like they are in hell (Hotel which Torturro is staying), and they are trying to listen a "common man" (Goodman), but they never can reach their pain and suffering (cant feet in their shoes - scene from film, also, near the end Goodman says: "You think you know about pain? You are just a tourist here, and I am LIVING here."). So, in a way, common man lives every day in hell that writter has only when he is pushed by some "boss".

  • @appletinihamshire And thats about it. ;)

  • what a strange trailer lol gotta love the coens

  • IM A CREATOR,!!

  • "....where there's a head, there's hope!"

    (shows box being put down)

    Hm...

  • John Goodman is the original Seth Rogan

  • @alkalinecuban But with more talent

  • I just saw this. AMAZING.

  • Notice how it's mocking silly David Lynch and his Eraserhead ?

  • 2:01 lmfao!!!!!!

  • Coen Brothers are just AWESOME

  • Roger Deakins FTW

  • for a second i thought that was harold ramis

  • @onexero1 It's an honest mistake. Both of them paraded around in round spectacles and tall hair.

  • have to look at this film screenplay and writing for a lecture this is so long to read not gud so much netter to watch

  • "You're entering a world of pain, Mr. Fink!"

  • @Raford146 your out of your element donnie!

  • I'm a writer and this movie speaks right from my mind. I also love the other Coen brother movies. They are a rare Hollywood diamond compared to the other unbelievable shit Hollywood dares to bring to light.

  • Mr. Pink lied, his old job did earn tips.

  • @athenasatanjesus you my friend, are a genius.

  • @athenasatanjesus This mans comment is superior to all who have commented. That was quite a funny observation sir.

  • @athenasatanjesus Tarantino kind of made that joke himself when he cast Buscemi as the Buddy Holly waiter in Pulp Fiction.

  • This film should come with a warning label: SEE IT TWICE!

  • love love love this movie

  • best.movie.ever

  • This movie equals greatest facial expressions by John Tutturro. God he is a pretty awesome character

  • what does it mean that "the end>>> but that was only the beginning" i could not get it,

does it say that because of that women in the end of the film? and it is the begining of what the hell?

  • @beyazguc

its a trailer. the whole point of a trailer is 2 entice viewers 2 want 2 know what happens, so that way they will watch the movie.

if the trailer explains the whole movie plot, then there wud b no reason 2 watch it.

i gues u will just have 2 watch it.

  • @16JAM77 @16JAM77 i had already watched the film, i watch this trailer after the film.

But, although i watch both, i could not get the point! really, im an idiot :D

  • @beyazguc Maybe this isn't the movie for you then. :P

  • Am I sick because I feel sympathy for a murderer? John Goodman is just so hilarious in this movie, you can't help but like him in a way. The Coens do that, I guess. I even felt some sympathy for Anton Chigurh/Javier Bardem in No country for old men.

  • @joeneschumi lol yea thts true

  • a modern day masterpiece

  • This blew me away. John Goodman was incredible.

  • @ImUnder18Really I'd just like to say as well, I think this is one of the best films I have ever seen/

  • I though the ending was hilarious! anyone else?

  • The buzz generated by the premiere of Fargo got this movie aired on tellie back in Sweden. I was 21 at the time so at least Steven Seagal had ceased to be my biggest hero. It instantly became my favorite next to Lynch's Wild at heart. Upon seeing Fargo I was, I'm afraid to say, dissapointed. It just didn't have that mind blowing quality. Screw my username. My name is Chet.

  • On watching this a second time, i have just realised how much if a masterpiece this movie is. There is so much more than meets the eyes at first, its hidden with complex symbolism and hidden meanings that i didnt pick up on, on the first viewing.

  • is this movie worth 2 buy?

  • without a doubt.

  • we watched this at university for one of the modules - our lecturer loves it! he kept going on and on about the box! lol

  • shit... I didn't know what the movie spoiled until I read the comments. : \

    That usually never happens.

  • Have anybody ever seen Wizards of Waverly Place or who David Henrie is? If not, there's an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place where David's character is wearing glasses like Harry Potter; he almost, ALMOST, looks a bit like Barton Fink (John Turturro).

Just thought I shared that with you.

  • So, I watched this movie, and I really liked it, but, on imdb and other sites, they mention so many difficult and unrealistic theories about this film... I thought and I know that his film is just about the mind of a writer who has a writer's block, just the beginning and the ending of the movie is real, and the box is just his 'writer-mind', the box got he in his 'imaginations', so he carries that all the time and so he has THE film about 'wrestlers' ... could this be THE theory ? =D

  • This trailer reveals WAY too much.

  • i adore this film.

  • im sooooo glad I didn't see this trailer! it totally gives away the thing about goodmen's character. It made it so much better that I didn't know he was a murderer.

  • Way to spoil it for those of us who havent seen it, ass.

  • @campkilldavy No kidding.

  • i was so suprised as to how amazing this movie was. i thought it was going to be good, but its probably the Coen's best film behind Fargo

  • I prefer The big Lebowsky, but is still good. But did you understand what happend with that box? Is like the carpet from Dude (Big Lebowsky)? I think it was a head from the doctor, but IDK... Does it have any sense? haha maybe is crazy like no contry for old men...

  • i dont think your supposed to understand the box, make your own conclusions. probably was the head, who knows.

  • This Was On The Simpsons!

  • Actually, the Coen Brothers wrote this movie while they had writers block, which is why it is essentially a movie about writers block. They always have some major underlying philosophical message in there movies, but I don't think it was so prominent in this one.

  • Everyone's got a different opinion matthewinnj... So it's impossible to say if you'll like it or not. Yes it's good, very good. But then, I think the same thing about Miller's Crossing whereas you think that one sucked. It would be a pretty boring world if everyone liked the same thing as everyone else. Just give this movie a try, it's only about 2 hours long, so not a life changing waste of time if it doesn't pan out!

  • Try: New, Improved, Punctuation™!

  • @matthewinnj08 the second half of this movie is very much in a David Lynch vein, if you don't like Lynch you'll hate it, but if you're a Lynch fan you'll love it. But if you thought Miller's Crossing sucked, you'll probably hate this one too. :-)

  • @matthewinnj08 It's good, give it a try.

  • I DONT GET THE MOVIE.PLZ HELP ME

  • I'll SHOW YOU THE LIFE OF THE MIND!!!

  • cool movie i love john goodman and turturro but one question Is "Charlie" Satan? or a Demon or something like that cause i doubt he's a door to door insurance salesman!

  • I thought so too but I strongly believes he represents the common man of America that Barton keeps talking about getting tired and fed up on how they are treated by the higher class. I think the last shot of Charlie going back to his burning room represents their tolerance to be living So heinously.

  • never thought about it like that... i still think he's creepy.

  • I Agree!

  • oh, and by the way vene777 the image with the girl from the beach was the exact wallpaper he had in his hotel room. So, you should put those rare synapses of yours make some connections. ;)

  • Simply the most profound, magical and inexplicably beautiful movie I've ever seen!

    A Masterpiece!

    :D

The Coen Brothers are one of the greatest geniuses of cinema!

    ;)

    U.n.f.o.r.g.e.t.t.a.b.l.e!

    :D

  • this movie is related to a movie of roman polanski "The Coen brothers cite as a major influence for Barton Fink the Roman Polanski film Le locataire (1976). (Watching The Tenant, according to one writer, will give you a lot better idea of what's in the mysterious kraft-paper-wrapped box in Barton Fink.)" Anyway, I would be very very grateful if someone can tell what's the soundtrack of this movie? pleaseeee??? thank you very much

  • @deephardandfast It's on the Fargo/Barton Fink soundtrack. TVT 8010-2. You can buy it on Amazon. It's also available as an MP3 download off Amazon. Excellent soundtrack, IMO.

  • never really understood the end of the film with the girl on the beach and the box.

  • the girl on the beach is portrayed in the same pose as the picture in Barton's room. This is ironic considering the image Hollywood sells is one of beautiful people and sun-kissed beaches but Barton gets sent to some crummy hotel. He looks at the picture with longing, as if it is a kind of wish-fulfilment, but when he finally sees it for real, his whole life has collapsed around him.

Be careful what you wish for I guess

  • im not mad at anyone.

  • John Goodman deserved an Oscar.

  • @xboxnut137 John Goodman deserves an Oscar for just waking up man. Dude is so cash.

  • i loved this movie, it showed what a sham the entertainment buissnes is. im sure alot of writers strugle with this when they start out.

  • @lunchmeat400 I haven't seen this movie, but Bruce Campbell mentioned in is book that he almost had a part in it. The book is a good read about someone struggling in the entrainment business .

  • one of the greatest cinematic achievements so farr in film history. period.

  • But what does it mean??

Seriously, I love the Coens, and I enjoyed the characters and quirkiness of this movie, but when it ended I was left feeling confused and a little unsatisfied. I honestly don't get it, and I want to.

  • Though I'm partial to Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and Raising Arizona, this one's definitely a classic, and one of their best.

  • The acting in this is impeccable, but two stand-outs. John Goodman and Michael Lerner.

  • One of my favourite films of all time. This movie is INCREDIBLE. Loved every second.

  • my #1 from Coen bros still The Big Lebowsky :)

  • I love movies from the 90's.

  • and music

  • I just finish watching this movie and...WOW! This movie belongs with the other greatest films of all time like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Network. It almost feels like a Edgar Allan Poe story being transfered into 1941 Hollywood. I think its better than Citizen Kane and There Will Be Blood combined!

  • Comment removed

  • god this movie was INCREDIBLE, the dialogue in this move was what i really enjoyed.

  • Barton looks like Harold Lloyd.

  • yeah but his haricut reminds me of Henry Spencer from "Eraserhead"

  • More like buddy holly

  • this and miller's crossing - best movies the coen bros have ever done

  • How could the Academy give Michael Lerner a nomination for such a tiny part in this movie but didn't give John Goodman the fucking AWARD, let alone a nomination?!

  • Out of the films I've seen by the two, I can't decide which is better, Fargo or Barton Fink.

Amazing film, had me thinking for days.

  • I'm amused by folks who say they "understand" films that, by their very nature, are enigmatic, and have no logical explanation. I think the most pretentious thing I ever heard anyone say is that they finally understood "Eraserhead" after viewing it FIVE times!!! What's to understand!!?? Having said that, I think these films are SUPER precisely for their strange, weird, creepy and nightmarish styles. Why does one have to "understand" them intellectually? These are about mood, feel and style.

  • I saw this alone and at midnight, might be the most unusual movie I've ever seen. In the best possible way.

  • here is my Coen brothers movie ranks 1. Miller's Crossing 2. Barton Fink 3. The Big Lebowski 4. Blood Simple 5. Fargo 6. Burn After Reading 7. Raising Arizona 8. No Country for Old Men 9. O Brother Where are Thou? 10. Intolerable Cruelty 11. The Hudsucker Proxy 12. The Ladykillers
  • hmmmmmmmm ive never seen anyone who liked burn after reading more than no country for old men, raising arizona, and o brother where art thou

  • the hotel earle was hell.

    charlie was the devil.

theres more to the story but it wuld take me all day to type it.

  • Spectacular film..

    * * * * *

  • A great movie- but slightly disturbing. I always felt very sorry for poor old Charlie.

    xxxRosa

  • STILL the Coen Brother's greatest achievement. One of the all time great movies, even better than Citizen Kane to my mind.

Won shedloads of prizes and hugely admired all over the world except in it's country of origin. Strange that!

  • it's very underrated, it's my second favorite coen bros. film. the first being fargo

  • when the bell fink rings and reverberates throughout the hotel and steve bushemi comes out from the trap door is the most eerie thing.

  • just finished this movie...OMG what should I say...

  • very curious for this coen brothers movie, gonna see it today !

  • This film is Great.

  • Great Coen Brothers film, with brilliant performances by John Turturro and John Goodman.

  • This is a great movie and should be more known...

  • my name is CHET!

  • Great Movie

  • This movie was great!

  • sad how so many great movies are being forgotten lately. Instead of this, I only find more and more comedy's starring Ice Cube in my videostore.

  • lol

  • damn. movie trailers used to be badass!! what happened!?!?!....:-(

  • LOL GREAT MOVIE!

  • BECAUSE YOU DON'T LISTENNNNNN!!!!!

  • "Where theres a head, theres hope" hahaha.

John Goodman gets all the best parts in Coen Brothers films.

  • goodman should have gotten an oscar

  • The Coen Brothers are different than the ordinary movie makers. Intuitive and brilliant they are.

  • second that!

  • One of my favorite movies. Ever. There's so many layers. You can watch it over and over, and still miss something.

  • The real masterpiece of the coen brothers

  • One of the greatest moments of cinema history, a great movie.

    His voice is becoming choked. . . . And you come into MY home . . . And you complain that I'M making too . . . much . . . noise.

  • any relation to millers crossing?

  • They wrote it in the middle of writing Millers Crossing when they had writers block. They sort of reference Barton Fink in Millers Crossing with the "Barton Arms" apartment building.

  • a very underrated movie

  • At the top list of my favorite films, the Coen Brothers have instilled hope in an industry loaded with sellouts and rip offs. Keep up the good work Joel and Ethan Coen. You guys are up to par with films from Billy Wilder!

  • Superb!

  • The ONLY film to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes festival from a unanimous vote.

  • trans or res?

  • YES!

  • Look upon me! I'll show you the life of the mind

  • one of the greatest movie ever made
