I remember this movie from when I was a young girl too. It came on television when I was about 9 or 10 years old and even now at the age of 40, this is the one movie that was unforgettable. I can remember crying when she passed. What a brilliant film. I would love to be able to sit and watch it again, as an adult and really enjoy it.

I watched this movie when I was a teenaged girl. It is and always will be one of my most favorite movies of all time. I did find it online...also found the 2 dvd set...Sunshine and also Sunshine Christmas. Think I am going to buy it. One of the best tearjerkers of all times!

I can't believe it!! I've been trying to find this. I remembered it but nobody else seemed to remember it. My family/friends thought I was crazy. I was 3 yrs old in 1973 - so they must have re-aired it cos' I remember seeing it around 1976. Anyways, thanks for posting it!!

Actually there was a follow up called Sunshine Christmas. I was able buy both on DVD from someone on the web.

wow! I've been searching for this movie for a couple of years now. This is the most I've seen of it since the 70's. One of my favorites,and so touching. I found the book on ebay. I read that when it came out also. I just don't understand why so many wonderful movies like this can't be brought out on DVD, or even VHS after all these years.

I've got a copy of the movie on DVD. I had looked everywhere for it after reading and adoring the book. A friend of mine wrote to the Australian Woman's Weekly magazine and a lady from Tasmania responded. She sent me a really old copy of Sunshine on VHS and i converted it to DVD. The quality is quite poor but it is such an amazing film it doesn't matter!

The book is by Norma Klein. It is out of print, but you can usually pick up a copy on ebay or from a used book dealer.

Now the movie I have never seen out on video.

They later made a short-lived TV series about how the widower and his daughter dealt with the mother's death - I seem to remember them roaming the country on a motorcycle.
