@mikedsm12 It's a single Turbonetics T70 ball bearing turbo on the 3.8L V6. At that time I don't think I had a BOV so the fluttering sound is air backing up in turbo tubing when I close the throttle. Never did get a transmission that would hold 3rd gear and sold the car last year.
It's a Vigilante 5-disk lock-up converter. The problem was the 2-3 band. There was a pressure problem that allowed it to slip. After several more failed attempts at giving me a transmission that worked, I finally abandoned the shop that was rebuilding them for me.
hey dude what's the fastest vehicle you've ever raced with your GN.i'm not talking about on the strip but on the streets/highway???, just curious that's all, thx man
wanna race my friend? he's got a 01 eclipse that he thinks is the best car ever made. even thinks it can take another one of my friend's father's 86 GN. but that guy won't even let that car leave the garage let alone race this kid. =P
The Eclipses can be made to go pretty quick, particularly the AWD turbos. The engine and trans are out of my car again. Should be done by the time the track opens up. If your buddy is anywhere near Island Dragway in NJ he should bring his car by. It's a good reality check.
nah his is a FWD stocker chick car that me and the friend that's dad has the GN make fun of all the time. but when we try to get him to race me in my 98 Mustang GT he pussies out. but he still thinks his car is the shit. yeah i'm not that far from Island Dragway. i'm near lake hopactcong.
and if i'm not mistaken the highway you get on is 80, probably about the 28 right?
The transmission was no good - there wasn't enough line pressure to keep the clutches engaged in 3rd gear. It was rocketing to redline when I floored it. I took it to the trans shop who proceed to blow the engine from redlining it, and put a 'new' transmission in it that does the same thing.
Any transmission will slip if the line pressure isn't enough to let it shift into high gear, which is the case here. I've only got 90 PSI at idle. It's going back to the shop this weekend.
It's kind of subtle. If you're in the car you can feel it. In the first 14 seconds of the video it's shifting fine. But, the more power I give it the more it slips. The best evidence is the last few seconds of the vid. You can hear the engine race when it comes out of 2nd - there's no 3rd gear. I've narrowed it down to a pressure problem. Getting it taken care of this week.
dude YOUR TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING G :D

Don't let off the gas so fast. Your going to snap the shaft on the turbo charger. Don't allow it to bark like that.

what kind of setup to you have? that turbo sounds pretty good on back spool.

On the street, probably Terminator Cobra. Gave me a run for my money. It was silver and obviously pretty heavily tweaked.

Yep - Rt. 80 at 27, by the Shell station. Some of it is on Gold Mine Rd. behind Lowes.

I miss NJ

It gets a bad rap because of some of the cities, but I live up north between NYC and the Pocono mountains. I love it.
