Eddie is finally coming to Dallas April 30, 2012. You know what the kicker is??? - these ticket people buy up all the tickets then sell them back at 4x the face value so that hard working people cannot afford to go see one of their favorite singers. WTF! I remember back when we could go to a concert for $5.00-$10.00 a ticket. I saw Jim Morrison, Neil Young, the Stones, etc. and never paid over $10.00 a ticket. Guess I am showing my age. Now you are lucky if you can get 2 tickets for $500.
@pasinann I saw neil young, eddie vedder, santana, arcade fire, mumford and sons, beck, dave mathews, tony bennet and norah jones for like $60 last year..
@pasinann isn't that the worst? the new age of music: overpriced scalped tickets. it was before my time, but from what I hear, used to be venue managers would swipe a handful of a band's tickets, sell em out the back door at HALF price, and pocket the money. now you've got to click "pay now" at 10:00 sharp the day they go on sale, or you're fucked.
time to go to some festivals or sneak into outdoor venues!
I think John Lennon and Eddie Vedder both have very unique singing voice's that what makes them so great. I don't think one is better than the other,. different time periods, different circumstance's.
I think we can all agree on that. from someone's who been a Rock fan and of music since he was a kid from the sixties :)
@foxdroad ...are you retarded?...just asking...cause in the music world John Lennon WAS known as a great vocalist....he had one of the best blues/rock voices....Eddie Vedders voice on the other hand(though I do love his music) is monotone....he's the Steven Wright of music
@chanchi2006 yes .....monotone...why perhaps you hear a dynamic range in Eddie Vedders vocals?!?!....you must love the vocal range of the crash test dummies too!....monotone!!...do you know what that is?!....heres a hint...Eddie Vedders voice!
@oquatanzenwan I believe that Eddie Vedder is a fantastic singer. He may not have the best pure singing voice, but his voice is very distinct and his singing still carries a lot of emotion into it. John Lennon was a fantastic singer as well. Sometimes the "dynamic range" of a singer doesn't matter. What matters is the soul and creativity they put into their music. I doubt anyone would consider Kurt Cobain a great singer, but the pain & angst he expressed in his songs are what made him an icon.
@TheBlazeAG ....Dude I agree with the whole singing thing...I was trying to make a point to that guy who said Eddie Vedder has a better voice than John Lennon...I love pearl jam,I love the covers they do...but to be obserd and say Eddie Vedder does a better job on a beatles song than the beatles did is just retarded......believe me its not a knock on Eddie...just breathe is probably my favortie song ...and Pearl jam is arguablly the best band from the "grunge "era..
@oquatanzenwan By the way, Eddie Vedder actually has a pretty wide vocal range. At least he did when he sang with Pearl Jam. There's a video specifically about his vocal range. Look it up. He gets gritty as he sings higher, but he still can hit some pretty clean high notes.
It's a song about the sister that was adopted out before he was born. It's sung from his unmarried mother's point of view --- cuz she was 'showing' / ie. HIDE your love away.... Teen Preggers (not boners, bonehead)
Regardless of the song meaning, this version is unbelievably great - even better than the original from Beatles. Eddie's voice suits perfectly to the song mood.
Sorry, but I do not anything gay, specifically, from these lyrics. The big clue is the "she" in the lyrics. Even if you try to extract an undercurrent of "gay," all you get is a sense of rejection or unrequited love.
Not about boners. Its actually about being gay. Their manager was gay and closeted. He was in love with John who rejected him, but was sympathetic with him. He wrote this song in regards to that experience.
From Spinner - Pain and rejection are familiar to any poor sod who's ever given his heart to a callous lover. But according to many Beatles obsessives, this Dylanesque 1965 tune can also be interpreted as a tribute to the Fab Four's manager, Brian Epstein, who lived a double life as a closeted gay man.
Rainbow Connection: 3/5 – Epstein also encouraged John Lennon to keep his marriage in the closet, so the theme of manager-inspired secrecy goes both ways.
@1darkmatter yes -- look it up on wiki or song facts or from spinner - Pain and rejection are familiar to any poor sod who's ever given his heart to a callous lover. But according to many Beatles obsessives, this Dylanesque 1965 tune can also be interpreted as a tribute to the Fab Four's manager, Brian Epstein, who lived a double life as a closeted gay man.
Epstein also encouraged John Lennon to keep his marriage in the closet, so theme of manager-inspired secrecy goes both ways.
@phrancly1 Actually, John did not completely *reject* Brian Epstein as he is said to have had sex with Epstein once while they were together in Majorca, Spain on vacation. Yoko Ono also once called John a "closet gay". Now the historical recidivists have tried to "clean" all that up, but I don't think John would care; he would have been amused at those who thought it necessary to polish his image.
And that's yet another reason why I love John Lennon. May he R.I.P.
Nothing beats the Original! Noone is better than the Beatles...I tried to find a good cover an actually I found it, but i found out too it is better to stay faithful!
i love the Beatles and Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder whichever you want to call it and i love this song too but over all i think Vedder sung this song better than Lennon did, Vedder just has a passion in his voice when he sings this song that Lennon didnt...either way they are both amazing singers Rock on Eddie! R.I.P. John! <3
@travian00000000 That is bullshit dude, have you ever heard Pearl Jam? They have a dozen or so albums of great songs and the few covers he has done are hardly Eddie's best work.
i completely absolutely ADORE the beatles... yet for some reason i like this one more (i still LOVE the beatles version... but i love this one a little bit more ^^)... this song used to be played a lot in a radio i used to listen to, and i didnt even know who sang it back then... this version of this song actually made me start liking eddie vedder... hehe :)
I heart the beatles and i heart eddie vedder. this is likely my favorite beatles cover with (surprisingly) Jim Carrey's I Am The Walrus coming in a close second.
loved this movie and his cover of this song...eddie vedder rules as does sean penn!!! who'd of thought he'd come this far from "Fast times at Ridgemont High"????
@dakota23750 I agree. :) he is like a god. who da hell cares! musically and you can tell in real life also. ;p regular naturall person who is true. comes in small amounts, but works in bigger ways each time. =D
@AlternativeAbyss ..Hey, thanks for the response to my post..good to know someone else feels the way i do about Eddie..he is so amazing & i love how he goes after what he believes in and isnt afraid to speak his mind..you're right, he is a regular down to earth natural person and thats something else i admire about him..peace Dakota :)
I have no interest in Pearl Jam checked them out they don't do anything for me. But this man's solo work is very fine. His covers, especially this one and The Kids are Alright, are the equal of the originals. He has a feel for this material and he lets it come out without barriers. His voice is, of course, special, but he is a gifted artist on top of the natural talent.
How much do I fucking love Eddie Vedder, let me count the ways...oh just to hug the man, just to stand in an embrace with him in silence, exchanging energy. That would be good enough for me...because seriously, Eddie has kept me alive since 1991 and I would just like to thank him for that.
Eddie's voice is amazing, but this song needed John. My biased opinion. I love both artists, but Eddie probably could show his voice better off elsewhere, instead of the strain he has in this song.
i was just listening to "elderly woman behind the counter of a small town" and had to pause it cos it reminded me of this, so i youtubed "got to hide your love away eddie vedder" on the off chance he'd done it and here it is! and its amazing, too
i love oasis but eddie vedder's version takes the cake. =) to me its par with the orig. eddie has an amazing voice even that guy from creed tried to capture it.beautiful song on a relaxing sunday morning!.
It's funny because I've just gotten into the Beatles a couple years ago (they're my favoritest band now) and I remember my mom had the soundtrack from I Am Sam and this was my favorite song.I just think it's funny because I didn't know that the songs from I Am Sam were covers because I didn't know about The Beatles.Eddie Vedder does a great cover of this!I bet John would like it :)
@Scaar81 Nothing like the original? whats so different about it? the instrumentation is the same, the singing rhythm is about the same, the most noticeable difference is the fact that its Eddie Vedder's voice and not john Lennon's.
It's funny i figured out who this guy is just a week ago becouse of into the wild but i've loved his music for a long time with out knowing it! He has one of the most amazing voices i've ever heard.
Dont get me wrong...I love the beatles. But a lot of covers are much better than the beatles. This, Cockers version of a little help (you all know its better), elton johns version of lucy in the sky (and pinball wizard, i know its not beatles, but its better than the whos, and i love the who). Well i say a lot...theres 3. But yea...all good songs :)
I am a hardcore Beatles fan and love Pearl Jam. I think Eddie did the song justice. Either version is a pure pleasure. They just don't write simple effective beautiful songs like this anymore.
I like this cover a lot. if I had to choose it'd just be the beatles. But I like vedder's grungy sort of voice too. Both are amazing. Split decision Beatles 30-29, 29-30, 30-29
Nu, it's definitely about a boner!

It's funny because I've just gotten into the Beatles a couple years ago (they're my favoritest band now) and I remember my mom had the soundtrack from I Am Sam and this was my favorite song.I just think it's funny because I didn't know that the songs from I Am Sam were covers because I didn't know about The Beatles.Eddie Vedder does a great cover of this!I bet John would like it :)

nothing like the original, but this is pretty good... eddie vedder is a great vocalist

@Scaar81 Nothing like the original? whats so different about it? the instrumentation is the same, the singing rhythm is about the same, the most noticeable difference is the fact that its Eddie Vedder's voice and not john Lennon's.

@MsDizzyMissLizzy yes it is ;) very good covers... sam liked the beatles

They just don't write simple effective beautiful songs like this anymore.

the only reason most Beatles covers are used in movies is because they are much cheaper.... this version ain't a bad version though...

John used to be my favorite Beatle. As I've grown older it's become George.

I think vedder has a far more passionate version than the beatles. In a song like this, passion is what makes it.

I like this cover a lot. if I had to choose it'd just be the beatles. But I like vedder's grungy sort of voice too. Both are amazing. Split decision Beatles 30-29, 29-30, 30-29
