THE BEST!!!!! Jimmy Smith introduced the Hammond B3 organ to jazz. Everyone I've ever seen that tries to play that style is nothing more than a J. Smith copycat. That includes guys like, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff etc. I'm a B3 player and I'm a Smith copycat. No doubt about it "JIMMY SMITH" is the greatest. Joey DeFransico is probably on top now that Mr. Smith has passed away, but, he's no Jimmy Smith!!!!!!!!!!

The reason no one plays a manual organ in a band is because Jimmy Smith isn't around any more.

Probably nothing. Jimmy is famous for doing that during his performances. It is to show that he is able to play flawlessly even without looking at the keyboard. He's done that many times, he suddenly looks bewildered at something while continuing to play.
