  • Shane!!!!!

  • just....... ahh :')

  • I heard this when i was four i a loved it and especially one guys voice i'm now nearly 18 and a massive u2 fan without knowing it was Bono's voice i loved 13 years ago until now.

  • LMFAO

  • Thank you for posting this, but it really is a shockingly monstrous performance of a delicate and sad song...

  • Wa-wa-wa-Waaait!

    Wait....

Why is Boyzone in garbage bags?

  • when i lived in London when i was 1, my family had a cat, when we moved to Australia, we gave that cat to Sir Andrew Davis.

  • Great song, but the BBC license fee is a fraud, making Britons pay for programmes everyone else can see for free and blocking this same content from British-based internet viewers, as they do here on Youtube. The license fee has to go, it's tautamount to embezzlement in this internet age for one channel to extort payment for one channel regardless if we watch it or not.

  • @astrophonix and without the tiny fee you pay for bbc, you wouldn't have some of the best TV in the world and no Top Gear......

  • @astrophonix "blocking this same content from British-based internet viewers, as they do here on Youtube". I'm in Britain and I can watch it fine. Programmes like Sherlock, as well as being sold all over the world to fund the BBC, bring literally millions of tourists and their dollars/Yen/Euros/etc. to the UK every year.

  • A very enjoyable song, well done Lou Reed and the BBC!

  • always found this song very funny.

  • Shane MacGowan, legend

  • I still love this!!! So they're not all to my taste, but just having such a diverse array of musical talent come together is staggering. It's a great song, and a great cover, and really does offer something for every taste- thankfully it was released before autotune became the norm and they refrained from having any of the sections "rapped" instead of sung. This was the last good thing the BBC did! Come on Beeb, prove me wrong and do it again!

  • @themoodude auto tune auto tune...ever since the retarded masses were educated to its existence a few years ago by the shananagans on xfactor its all i frikkin read now on youtube...idiots assuming that anyone who has released a song in the last ten years that sounds good must be autotuned..the autotuner has been around for donkeys years.just that its cool to try and sound clever when in fact its all a load of frikkin nonsense...and loads of so called greats from yesteryears have used it too.

  • @mrbarleymob I'm not denying that it's been around for ages, nor that it's been used in countless older songs, but there was a time when musicians were talented first, and famous second. These days it does seem more about finding someone who would be liked and filling in the talent requirement afterwards. I don't say these things simply to sound clever; I appreciate that there is talent out there today, but it's far rarer and often second place to sex appeal and likeability.

  • David Bowie!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Bees, a shooting star, and pyramid trees.

  • I like some of artists in this song, but this cover sucks ass...

  • We have this on cassette tape. 1990s or what?

  • I love this, but I wish that either Bono or David or Elton would do their own covers of this song. I would LOVE to hear just them sing this!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Bono without shades!!!

  • leave it to lou and bowie. everybody else sucks

  • I cant understand that almost 100 persons dont like this.

    Fuckin assholes

  • Emmyou Harris .... Cool

  • This song's subtext is all about heroin and Lou Reeds use of Heroin. Don't suppose the BBC knre or cared? :P

  • anybody know where i can find a paid mp3 download?

  • It is an amazing commercial. Done in 2008, it uses music stars from past and present. I'm not a fan of state run broadcasters and their natural hard left-wing agenda, but this ad gets it. It's OUR money that keeps them going, which is fresh thinking for 'big brother'. No one is entitled to our money.

I love this. Great work, 3 years old and still winning....

  • @SolidFilmCritic 1998 surely?

  • @SolidFilmCritic This is over 10 years old, and the all the artists did a full take of the song knowing full well it was for BBC. The editting on this is the really clever part. On the CD the BBC released, there is a male only version and a female only version of it

  • @SolidFilmCritic 2008? good one

  • why did tom jones only feature at the very end?

  • @slapmyfunkybass makes for a great ending though :)

  • We vote that as best commercial ever seen!

  • great track

  • Damn, I was hoping that Roger Moore was also...

  • Really good version! I love IT! Thumbs up!

  • I saw Bowie. I had to click it.

  • I'd love it if you could get an instrumental version of this song with Courtney Pine playing that clarinet over the Symphony Orchestra. Spine tingling

  • This isn't available on iTunes as far as I can see :( anyone know why? I need it!

  • What year was this promotion?

  • @NoDestinyLive4Now well boyzone is in it so i'd assume some time between 1996 and 1998

  • @NoDestinyLive4Now

1997 - and it still looks incredibly modern.

Btw all the artists did their bit for a nominal £250 to show their support for the BBC.

  • who i that sexy man in the sun glasses he is so hot please tell me who is he

  • @mhcxx777 Huey from Fun Lovin Criminals

  • lou reed he is so great i love this song

  • this is awesome!

  • I can remember seeing this video every Sunday after Eastenders Omnibus.

  • In answer to a previous question, the instrument played by Courtney Pine is a Selmer (Paris) series 111 soprano saxophone.

  • super.

  • yeah remember this back in 1997.... heather small the best

  • My Boy's Ace; what a perfect day :-)

  • @kieranjones1982 No it's not. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. The Republic of Ireland is it's own state.

  • All great but Tom Jones and Heather Small are the only two with that power. Loving the shit teeth chat as well

  • @dannylmeats never heard of shane mcgowan and "The Pogues". pity

  • who gives a toss about crooked teeth..

lifes not going in to your coffin all prim and proper its about sliding in side ways saying shit yea what a fucking ride, im irish

  • Perfect video

  • i wish RAI here in Italy would make something like this, but with berlusconi the best we can have is apicella. Shame on us!

  • Sure Shane McGowan may have fucked up teeth but he can sing better than alot of you people out there he was a ledgend, came from Ireland too, Only the best:)

  • Lou Reed's song about his addiction to heroin.

  • Poifect! Love it! Cos Lou Reed can't sing.

  • @vapo27 The fact that you think Lou Reed can't sing and like this crook of shit tells me you can't tell apart good singers from bad singers, just for curiosity, who's your favorite artist? Kanye autotune West? Or Kesha autotune?

  • Poifect! Love it!

  • this is the best thing my licence has ever payed 4!!

  • Anyone know what clarinet Courtney Pine is playing from 2:38?

  • Comment removed

  • @12411351351235

Looks like a soprano saxophone. I don't know what make.

  • BONO! ♥.♥

  • such a perfect song

  • my bridal waltz, wife wanted Shanya Twain, ...........not that theres anything wrong with that....

  • Sorry to the purists but this is one of those cases where the cover is much better than the original ... even if it was produced for self-serving and indulgent purposes (and then redeemed by charitable ones).

  • @flkclips have you actually listened to Transformer?

  • I had forgotten all about this song until just now and it wasn't till I listened to it that I remembered just how brilliant it is. Good times

  • nice:D

  • Lightning Seeds, not Laughing Seeds.

  • Oh my god, David Bowie...!

  • @PrettyOdd88 I know that's exactly what I thought.

  • @PrettyOdd88 you meant "oh, my god - David Bowie!", didnt you? Me too.

  • Good to see such a good song ruined by the top 2 comments being arses to others.

  • @MDCVFIF WOAH, IRONY

  • beautiful song, but the ending sounds a tad sinister almost a warning!

  • Funny seeing Shane MacGowan with his rotten teeth lol

  • Fantastic, good this version is available as well as the "official" video without the BBC bits.

  • Tom Jones! :))))

  • Thanks for adding artist names :)

  • DR.JOHN!!!

  • Tom Jones & Heather Small sound the same in this song .... Its scary !!

  • its just a song done by a load of artists for charity I've heard worse covers anyway so all those bitches bitching about this song need to chill out.

  • @thisisclarry It wasn't for charity, it was a promo and not too subtle reminder that we pay the license fee and to keep writing the cheque.

It was however subsequently used, due to public demand to buy the record, for Children in need.

  • "its such funnn" lmaooo couldnt stop myself laughing at that. shane macgowan you berk :)

  • How to ruin a song, by the BBC

  • @Thisnameistaken11 Such a perfect way...

  • wow 1997

  • i bet there are a few metallica fans here listening to this after the announcement of loutallica lol

  • Such a perfect music !!

  • I just had my perfect day...and I'm so happy...only this song can explain it!!!Its lovely!

  • BTW Its SIR Tom Jones

  • David Bowie!!

    Shane Macgowan

    only people i like

  • Elton John looks like a right plank with that wig and glasses on.

  • naprosto nelepsi pecka ..

  • David Bowie should sing this solo...

  • @leomaruli I've always thought this as well. Bowie doing this alone would be phenomenal.

  • Why did you do it Lou, why?

Bowie, yes and Shane Macgowan too but Bono, Take That, that chick from M-People, fucking Gabrielle? That man who ruins the entire fucking line by saying 'someone good' in that ridiculous way? Even goddamned Susan Boyle did a cover.

Do you just hate this song, Lou?

  • @TenWhoWereTaken Take That?, don't you mean Boyzone?

  • @JamesY2J100 Do I? All I know is that one has Robbie Wiliams and the other one has that Irish guy. The point still stands though, right?

  • @TenWhoWereTaken all the guys in Boyzone are Irish, Take That had finish when this was brought out lol

  • @TenWhoWereTaken

if you cant tell the difference between take that n boyzone then you really arent fit to comment

  • @16shipton If I don't care about either boy band enough to identify them then I can't comment on a decision made by a real musician like Lou? Shut the fuck up.

  • @TenWhoWereTaken Lou made this song...

  • It's hard to believe that anyone can find anything better than good music. It's like love, but it doesn't hurt you personally.

  • yup that is what artist do they bring it to the point.

  • I love this song and this version was awesome.

I also watched it without paying the BBC a penny.

  • 1:47... who the hell is that guy!!!

  • @MrJuanCamilito it's Shane McGowan. He's a legend. Check out his work with The Pogues, and solo.

  • @SixEightySeven Thanks. I will

  • @MrJuanCamilito

I think it's the guy out of the Pouges

  • Reminds me of a time when tv was less crap.

    Love this song.

  • With few natural resources, not much land, a manufacturing sector coming back from the dead, and a now bankrupt financial services industry, what has the UK got to offer the world? This. Culture, creativity, ideas, inventiveness. That's why we need the BBC.

  • What makes me laugh is all the ignorant idiots who watch this, see Shane McGowans teeth and make some stereotypical racist comment about all Brits teeth being rotten and crooked. Last time I checked Shane was Irish, not Britsh. Get an education, morons

  • @kieranjones1982 depends which part of ireland that makes you british tho,

  • @kieranjones1982 Britain is a part of Ireland though, innit?

  • @winstono75 Correction, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, Great Britain or "Britain" consists only of Wales, Scotland and England. It's why in sport you always see the reference of "GB & NI" and not "UK".

  • @kieranjones1982 He grew up in london.

  • @kieranjones1982 hes english...

  • it's perfect

  • Just like an other dimension! I LOVE it ! Inspiring! Glad I found it again ;) !!

  • Why do we not have an apology from the BBC for their role in the Norwegian incidents?

  • 84 people had a bad day

  • @uandf It started when they played this cover...

  • Thanks for the artist declaration in right corner! This song takes me back! :)

  • this is the worst thing ever. reed should sue

  • @blacklistcommittee well since Bowie composed and arranged it with mick Ronson, Reed can't do much

  • @blacklistcommittee I would want their money, just an official apology...

  • and that is why I don't mind paying for my TV license.

  • Artist 2:56?

  • @TylerDurden909 Brett Anderson I think

  • david bowie's ohhhhsome!! Love the feathered earring. He's perfect!

  • that's just done my fucking head in.

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP most overrated "musician" of all time

  • @harveydents Agreed :o)

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP Go back to fucking your mutha

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP you forgot tax dodging twat

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP y u hate bono?

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP

Agreed! What's the difference between God and Bono? God doesn't walk around thinking he's Bono!

  • @wellardme Bono is crap, but when he was shat his father raised it as a child, But he could never shed the fact that he was really... a number two. So he spent his life trying to be number one, in everything. That's why he's able to do so much, try to help so many people, but still seem like such a piece of shit.

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP you forgot to mention bono's a tax cheating cunt

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP WHY SHOULD WE PUT UP WITH BANALITIES LIKE YOUR'S ON YOU TUBE. RETARD!!!!

  • @ThemuthaphukkinP Just wait until he comes round your gaff! Wouldn't be surprised if it's "Oh, hello, Mr Bono, fancy a Gypsy Cream"? lol

  • They should put this ad back on TV

  • It's SIR Tom Jones now ;)

  • check out One perfect day by Aussie band Little Heroes

  • I had no idea how BAD Shane's teeth were....ugh

  • A great Lou Reed song made even better. I do love the BBC, you can gladly have my £140, bargain.

  • Amazing song, can't stop playing it. Some of those voices are so powerful but my favourite in this has to be Heather Small, her voice is amazing especially towards the end

  • someone good...yeah...

  • Does your fantastic socialized medicine include dental care---it doesn't seem so?

  • @Hypatia1951 Why do you ask? You trying to score some new dentures you old scrote?

  • @DonskiBeat1

Nope, as an American, my teeth are clean, white, and straight: You buggery loving Brit, limey fuck.

  • @Hypatia1951 Tut, tut, fancy someone your age using profanities like that. I can't say that I've ever partaken in buggery - but I hear it's something secret between Daddy and his "special girl" over there in the good 'ol US of A. Ha ha you were born the same year super glue was invented - do you use it to hold your falsies in?

  • @DonskiBeat1

Well, with your current influx of muslim immigration, I suppose you will get your fill of pedophilia soon enough. And I am sure you brits didn't do any such thing---that is why you made it illegal in a "Buggery Act." Get back to your socialist decadence: Enjoy mediocrity.

  • @Hypatia1951 You know the reason they call us Limey's is becuse we ate lime to stop scury, the American's didn't, they lost all their teeth, we the brits didn't. AND Unlike American's us brits stick together and you decided to inslt a brit of THE BBC PROMOTIONAL VID! How stupid are you anyway?

  • @DonskiBeat1

And 1951 was the year my mother was born. I named the account after her: Because she passed this year. You fucking toolbag.

  • @Hypatia1951 So you named the account after your mother and listed your age as 60? You got a bit of a Norman Bates thing going on? I will enjoy my "socialist decadence" thanks and It's OK - I'm not particularly attracted to muslim children so I should be able to control myself...you freak. Try and control your jealousy; don't worry the rest of the world are really envious of America and all of your gun crime, ignorance, bad manners and obesity you fucking necrophilic shit weasel.

  • They know how to spend a lot of money and don't look like idiots ...

  • Handy annotations are handy. Thanks!

  • Murdering a brilliant song.

  • @blackbearsuk

    Butthurt much?

  • I used to appreciate the BBC back in 90's, today its become nothing but a mouthpiece for the Tory Government
