Interesting! From this shoot out I would choose Melody, but I have all three at home and find Lyric HG to be louder, punchier and clearer than either Forte or Melody. I find Forte punchier than Melody, but bass notes on guitar are less clear than the Melody.
My favorite is the Melody. It's more open than the Lyric HG and has more highs. The Lyric HG seems to have a higher pF that rolls off some of the highs (which seems to make it sound fuller/fatter) and makes the sound more compressed. Good stuff.
Guitar cable does make a difference. XLR cable quality not so much (as well as 1/4" cable at line level) but the purer the copper and better the shield the better your guitar will sound.
Better guitar cable even helps bass, although more subtlely than regular electric.
There's definitely no EQ'ing going on here? Because the difference is massive, way more than I thought could ever come from a cable. It's like the difference between three different jfet boosters.... Now I have no choice but to drop $130.00 on a cable!
@joesl8, definitely try to upgrade each piece of your signal chain when you can. it'll be worth it! evidence audio also makes speaker cable. they sell Siren II with straight to push on connectors, which are designed for combo amps.
Strange.... I liked the Forte and the Melody over the Lyric myself.
I could immediately hear the difference between them all.
To me the Melody sounded the nicest, I could hear the separation of the strings. The Lyric in comparison sounded muffled and far warmer.
No one knows what the capacitance on these things are (as least I can't find the info) but from what I'm hearing the Melody has to have a lower capacitance than the Lyric.
Regardless, it does indeed seem to give a different sound.
I'm always searching to squeeze any bit of extra tone out of my gear I can. I'm interesting in the Evidence Audio Melody cable but was curious, to get the full benefit would need to switch all my cables? I am currently using a monster cable to guit, Hosa effects chain, and a George L to the amp. I was also wondering, on a Fender combo amp, is there a better cable for the speaker to amp than the one stock? Thanks to anyone for any info!
About the stiffness of the Lyric, I agree with you so for live situations (where the differences between cables are less noticeable), I use the Melody. If Im not mistaken thats exactly what Mr. Gilmour does, he was using the Melody live at the Royal Albert Hall concert , you can check on the DVD , I was there and I could see it in person , one of the most memorable moments of my life :)
Hello there, nice demo! I have the Lyryc and the Melody and they are both awesome cables. I'd say the Melody is more focused and tighter, so for recording purposes the Melody is my choice for heavy chunky rythm stuff and the Lyric for cleans and single note singing solos since it is more clear sounding and you get every nuance out of what you are playing. I found the Forte too harsh to my ears but maybe thats just me...

Hey maybe you could A/B your EA's with different brands if you have them in hands.

Clean - Lyric then Melody
Heavy - Melody then Lyric
Solo - Lyric then Melody
I was having a tough time deciding which to go with, but this helped a lot given I play mostly the clean and solo type tones. Thanks.

The Melody to me is the best sounding. Bright and open
