Which PC should I get? One that has an i7 turbo boost at 3.6ghz (quad core) with a GTS 450, or a PC that has an i5 turbo boost at 3.4 ghz ( quad core) with an ATI HD5830?? Is the 5830 better than the 450? Is nvidia Physix enough to get the 450? Thanks...
My XFX GTX260 Black Edition is faulty and XFX wants to replace it with an ATI HD 5830. Should I do it or no? If no, what other card should I ask for that is greater or equal to my GTX260? Thank you!
guys i need i quick answers. I'm ordering a graphics card tommorrow and i need to know if the 5830 is better than a gtx 280 and the 4800 series. I do plan to overclock it and if anyone knows a good stable overclock for this card would you be so kind as to share your information with me.
omg i love this card, i had two ati 5770 in crossfire but i hated them. i got many gameplay errors and sometimes i lagg relly bad. so got two of these babes in crossfire!!!
really idk why people say the 5830 sucks...... well actualy i do know, its becuase of drivers..... if a good driver was made for it then it would own anything in its price range.... july 20 im getting one 5830 and on black friday im getting another.... 5830 in crossfire own a single 5870.... by a very nice margin... nice video man but u blocked me other account neonzion7 rofl...
@racingisfun the 4890 is dx10 this the 5830 is dx11.. so the graphics are much clearer on the 5830.. my 4890 died.. so powercolors sending me one of these babys since all the 4890s are out of stock . :D
@racingisfun Well, its on pare with the 4890 in general perfomance. But, the 5830 uses ALOT less power, especially in idle, it runs cooler and is directx 11 compared to 10.1 for the 4890.
Hey i have a question, im thinking of buying a new card for my computer (Got an 9800gt right now). I was thinking of buying a 5830, but should i go for it since i use Windows XP? Since i wont be able to use DX11 should i maybe go for another card?
@roguespear136 Yes!! BY LIke 4 times better! I had a 9800GT and went to a 4870 1gb which was much better. I just swapped to a 5830 and it puts out quite a bit better than my 4870.. so yep.
I think if anything your vid card will hold you back. Crysis really needs 256bit GPU memory. Im sure you can run it at those settings but, you will see some slowing frame rates during intense combat.
@mitsostsagka not in general because with the new drivers 10.4, the 5830 is faster than the 4890 and has better overclocking capabilities. + DX11 and Eyefinity. pay more get more.
Yes, of course it varies from sub contract to sub contractor. HIS is responsible for putting bad memory on there cards. An ATI licensed platform does not mean they are at fault one bit. The information I received from ATI directly is to the overall decision to move to a new platform being the HD5830.
I would add by saying that if you are replacing a broken 4890, this is ATI's true replacement. There has been a slew of bad memory on the HD4890s. Especially from HIS and I am one of the victims. I spoke with a couple techs from the ATI Corp. and got the lowdown. They basically said instead of fixing and boosting production on the 4890's, they created the 5830 line.
As a 4890 crossfire owner , I Still think I'm saving my $ and waiting for Fermi or Tesla or whatever 80's band Nvidia is calling it this week , to be Released and maybe a 5850 Price drop , Although with the Release of this Card it's now Doubtful ,....I Read that 5850's are Actually going UP in Price with the Release of this Card ,So You have to LUV that, More$ for less Performance ,....So we'll wait 1 month and See!...
I honestly think that for the price, the 5770 is the clear choice if you want your moneys worth. You may get 2-10 more fps with the 5830, but does that justify the 100 dollar difference? Also, if you already own a 5770, you can just add another one for even more performance rather than buying this new card. All is well though, because the prices will most definitely drop whenever NV decides to actually release a new card instead of re-branding a 8800gt AGAIN.
Hey can you blame Nvidia for Re-Branding the 8800 series ,...It WORKED....... about 6x's....lol! (Got to love the guy who went 8800gtx to 9800gtx to gts 250 , lol!)...
I would say save your money for now and wait for the second generation of dx 11 cards to come out. Also I would upgrade your psu first: get a corsair 650 or 750tx. You'll be able to run any gpu with that psu if you want to later on upgrade to maybe the ati 5850 over the summer.
Do you think getting a 5830 is worth the money (compared to a 5850 or a 5770)?
And will a 500 W power supply do?{Running with 8 GB Ram , Phenom 955 ,1 Harddrive and a DVD drive , 500 W PSU(at the moment im running this system with a 4850 512 MB)}
Your are really pushing it if you what to run this card with a 500w PS. It totally depends on the brand of your PS. Some off-brand ones dont give you what they advertise. I would look up some specs on your exact PS and try to fund someone that has tried it.

I have both nVidia and ATI cards , most of you probably don't know what an NV1 tompson is but you should.
I got my Asus 5830 at newegg for less because it was opened box item.
it's 100% functional.
The moral of the directx11 story is never buy a video processor without hardware tessellation unit.
