cant believe it ,i look up this beautiful tune as it reminds me of when i used to live near the sea ,(in yorkshire now) and your pics are from two tree island im a leigh on sea girl and i am double happy now thanx .
@ewock74 thanks back, you're welcome, from another Leigh on Sea girl in exile. Well, about 5 miles north. But given half the chance. And a huge lotto win.
@cub68134 : reading it I would guess Irish Gaelic. It reads... Thograinn Thograinn Thograinn thograinn bhith dol dhachaidh (I wish we were going home) E ho ro e ho ro Gu Sgoirebreac a chruidh chaisfhinn (To Scorrybreck of the white-footed cattle) E ho hi ri ill iu o Ill iu o thograinn falbh Gu Sgoirebreac a' chruidh chais-fhionn (To Scorrybreck of the white-footed cattle) E ho ro e ho ro Ceud soraidh bhuam mar bu dual dhomh (The first blessing from me, as is my right
@cub68134 The lyrics are from the poem 'Christmas at Sea' by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, same chap who wrote Treasure Island. Although this version isn't bad, I have to say I prefer hearing it as a poetry recital. Alan Doyle of Canadian band 'Great Big Sea' does a very good recital, if you can find it on tube.
Sting is one of those guys (like Bruce Dickinson) who is the exception to the rule about one-dimensional brainless rockers. I've enjoyed his post-Police career as much as his time with them. Another great song from him -- I've been sailing before and appreciate the "feeling" of the wind and water through the tempo and tone of the music. Absolutely great song.
I've forced myself to move away from some Hedningarna this morning! Very earthy, grounded music. Another set of favourites; they are really very good!
I vaguely recall the female is Mary MacMaster (Scot, harp and vocals), singing a Gaelic song 'Thograinn' in oppositio n(for want of a better word) to Robert Louis Stevenson's poem Christmas at Sea. Melodious blend.
love it,being an ableseaman myself have spent a few christmasses at sea.a lonley place at christmas but with good crewmates and a few beers and good music its always alright.
... two people don't seem to have souls ...

The lyrics are from Robert Louis Stevenson's poem 'Christmas At Sea'. Great poem, I've never heard it sung to music before however.

Does anyone know, did he work with Hedningarna on this song? I think I recognize the vocals.

it sounds pretty much like Hedningarna, but it's not. The female vocal is a friend of Sting's.
PS: Hedningarna are great :P
