4:40 Some biologists look at the molecular level and do see God. Some physicists and some cosmologists look at the cosmos and do see God. Why? Because it IS a matter of perspective.
Perspective: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.
Part of being Atheist is not believing in an afterlife (HELL/HEAVEN) So I guess we'd have less fear of Death... We're free to do things that religion would frown upon, for example, Homosexuality. Christiananity is against Homosexuality, but what's wrong with it? That they are attracted to the same Gender as they are? What the heck is wrong with that?
@Wah47 There is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Its their business. They are not harming anyone with their attraction to the same sex. Christians just want to control other people's life.
atheists get cookies which are pretty good. Oh, and sundays free. we still do christmas with Santa. Christians may get hell and eternal torture if they have been bad. :-(
thou shall not steal, kill, lie, commit adultery dont make sense? lol silly atheists! so basically there r no benefits! got it. no one to turn to when u feel like giving up. atheists won't help u thats for sure! ugh theyre hopeless. look at them trying to reason! hahaha
@ndrthrdr1 how many believers fear hell? most believers don't even think theyre going to hell and some don't believe in it. nobody to turn to as in if you have a problem that NO MAN can solve(loosing job, house, car, etc.) and you need a higher power to help you. if you loose hope in everything religion gives ppl hope. without it, many ppl wouldn't know what to do. atheists can't help with such things. all they'll say is don't pray its useless THERES NO GOD and put u more in depression.
@nikitty020 There are effective ways to deal with depression, ways that actually help. Exercise, good sleep habits, healthy diet, counseling, reducing stress, accepting things that we can't change, adopting realistic expectations, socializing with friends, dealing with problems that cause the depression, etc. Prayer is a placebo.
@ndrthrdr1 so basically suicide is the only way.. got it. all that crap usually doesn't work. prayer works. thats why ppl do it. me and many others around the world know it. you just don't want to believe it cause u THINK theres no God lol and everytime a new person has a testimony about a healed illness etc u immediately DENY it and say it just fixed itself LOL!!! you ppl need some help. if its all a placebo why don't u try other placebos on us and see if it works lol
@nikitty020 Where do you get this "suicide is the only way" idea? The only way to what?
Vague claims like you make here about prayer working aren't evidence. Your prayers are placebos. Cut and paste this into your YouTube search box: The best optical illusion in the world!
by GIIVideo)
That video explains it perfectly, and notice the ratio of Likes to Dislikes. Also, notice that it's you focusing on suicide, not me. Unless someone brings it up, I don't give it a thought.
@ndrthrdr1 i wasnt trying to give any evidence! why would i? you've already told yourself that prayer doesn't work so nothing will convince you otherwise! and you know it! nothing that supports beliefs are evidence to you athiest so i won't bother. you're all so closed minded. you'll only listen to those who are on your side regardless of whether or not they have any real proof. you can't even prove it doesn't work! so all you have are beliefs and claims based off DENIAL.
@nikitty020 Actually, you've already convinced yourself that prayer works in spite of the fact that there is absolutely no empirical evidence of the existence of any such thing. Hard data proving you wrong is simply ignored because you are not mentally well.
Seek professional help. Seriously.
Don't go to a religious shrink who is himself delusional, but a real shrink with a firm grip on reality.
I love these meaningless statements like "go beyond a basic level". These people have no idea what they're even calling in to say or ask; they just think they're going to stump a panel of very intelligent atheists with an argument that's been made to them a hundred times before.
Whenever someone asks me "Well, what does atheism have to offer?" I always answer "We have cookies, and I've been told that we will eventually get punch and pie. Come join us!"
That usually does the trick and they stop asking.
This is probably the most asinine question anyone can ask about anything. A person believes something based on the evidence, not some perceived "benefit" it offers.
(sigh) They are wide open, and right now I'm looking at a guy who's making an argument equivalent to "I'm right, but I don't want to tell you how I know."
By the way, how do you even define a "fundamentalist" atheist vs. a "regular" atheist?
@kerrkr12 haha. I guess on the same token if he believes that someone murdered someone else. they murdered someone else regardless of whether there is or isn't evidence. He doesn't owe anybody proof. haha. He probably thinks "I'm right, but I don't want to tell you how I know" for that situation as well. :)
Another note on your reply: atheism, is the LACK of belief. I have no belief in god. You do, and I currently have no reason to take YOUR belief seriously, as you haven't backed it up at all.
No it isn't black and white. There's a large number of religions and they all have different theologies and belief systems. Many are polytheistic and believe in many gods. An atheist, as even the the definition you posted declares, is a person who says, "Yeah, you're 'god' or 'gods' is/are bullshit." I'm only interested in what you think your proof is. If you show me real, hard, evidence, I'll change my mind in a second. But don't think I won't scrutinize it before I accept it.
The next movement that is similar to the atheist movement is the movement away from political parties. People start moving away from political parties once they understand that their vote has only symbolic meaning.
Another benefit is the knowledge that no one and no thing is in my head, reading or knowing my thoughts and emotions. This brings me a lot of peace, personally.
@dex1391 Because maybe they aren't professional scientist with an amazing background in physics, biology, geology, etc. If you would ask any of these questions to a person with the background of anything I listed they would give you a straight forward answer. Also, they ask questions because they guy is delusional. And he is also questioning them on ignorance with no evidence to back up his claims.
@dex1391 Because the assertion that there is no god is not a positive declaration. Nobody has any evidence that there is no god, the same way that no one has any evidence that my friend doesn't own an invisible dinosaur. Yet the burden of proof is not placed on the skeptic, but on the believer. I don't have to disprove my friend's invisible dinosaur, he has to prove it's existence to me. These guys don't have to give their callers evidence that there is no god, the callers must prove there is.
@kerrkr12 I don't care about the semantics about it. It comes down to two basic beliefs.. God exists God doesn't exist THAT'S IT. Stop the game playing. I owe you nothing... and I have no reason to take your beliefs seriously... Sorry but your debate technique failed.. a·the·ism [ey-thee-iz-uhm] Show IPA –noun 1. the doctrine or belief that there is no god.
@dex1391 Finally I'm not playing any kind of "game" with you. I've checked your channel just to make sure you weren't just a troll, and you obviously have feel you have a point to make. If you feel there's a god, and specifically a Christian god, please enlighten me on what has you convinced. I won't turn a deaf ear.
It's a matter if perspective??? What's that idiot trying to say? At any rate even if he sees god in nature, how does that lead him to claim that the bible us right?
and yeshu will save your life if you belive in him.. there will come many .. and no peace.. first the decieving.. and then if u stay with yehshu and DO NOT BELIVE IN THE DECIEVERS than u will see what's happening =)
belive me.. they wanna decieve me too men.. i am your proof.. let me be the one who tell you in the name of ישוע that they tried to decieve me haaard and badly.. but now .. i'm still praying to Ḡòḍ and belive in ישוע
I think everyone wants to believe what is ultimately true but everyone comes to a slightly different conclusion on what is ultimately true. While people may tend to be drawn to a belief they find comforting what would be the motivation to believe something you would find unsettling? Even if all believers are completely dead wrong to the extent that material atheism is ultimately true they will never find out about it anyway. If they're happier believing in God they would be better of doing so.
Truth is, even if a christian has doubts, he or she will never admit them to a non-believer. They may ask questions when in church or whatever, but they are brainwashed to automatically disregard anything an atheist has to say on the topic of... anything. I was a christian for most of my life... I know how it is guys ;)
Y'know, it seems to me that the term "atheist" is a little too forgiving toward religion. Religion asserts god. Atheism means "without god", which is to acknowledge that religion has made an assertion. Without evidence, that assertion isn't worthy of even that much acknowledgement.
'course, changing up the wording now would cause tons of confusion.
@smurfboywv Non-believers in what? Hinduism? Taoism? Jainism? Judaism? You're going to have to define what it is you are arguing in favor of if you're going to make assertions like that.
@smurfboywv Ah, so you're part of the cult known as Christianity. What reason do you have to believe that a man being tortured to death will somehow save you from eternal hell-fire? Also, why aren't the Vedas of Hinduism correct? Why aren't the Tirthankaras of Jainism the true enlightened ones? Calling me small minded is fantastically ignorant, and insulting to your own intelligence. I keep an open mind sir. If you presented me with the evidence, I would believe you.
@Urudrim sure he knows you are in for selfish reasons, thats why he gave his kid up for a blood sacrifice so that you can get to heaven as a Spiritual Carrot to bribe you to follow his edicts. So God at his very core is feeding that selfish nature.
I am curious as to why atheists and theists see each other as a threat at all. Or if that's too strong a word, why they feel they need to convince each other of each others' world view (which in my experience never happens as a result of rational argumentation, since they can't agree on the premises to begin with). I used to be Christian, now I am an atheist, but couldn't care less if others want to remain religious believers. I peacefully live with people who believe in gods and superstition.
@toluca56 My dislike of religion isn't towards the individual it's the effect that religious beliefs have on the advancement of mankind. So much break through science has been held back by religious beliefs in the past and continues to be today and it's purely down to archaic religious beliefs that were initially there to explain phenomenons that we now have a very full understanding of. Basically, science is the future and religion and science are completely incompatible!!
@maskofsan1ty I think that's true, but only if a religious majority try to force their beliefs on the rest of us. As long as they're laissez-faire, they can believe in Santa Klaus, aliens and fairies as far as I care, and practice whatever irrational religious rituals they wish. I'm opposed to *coercive* religion. But I feel no threat at all from Taoists or the Amish, for example. As long as they leave us rational-empirical-scientific folks to live without interference, things will be great.
@toluca56 Believe what you like. But, if you challenge me with your beliefs, try to enact legislation based on your religion, or try to justify things that I find terrible through your religion, I'm not just going to let things lie, especially in a situation where it effects my life. I also think that in some way it is our job as human beings to challenge one another, respectfully. Without being challenged we don't change, without change we don't grow, without growth we are dead.
@DreamerbyDeseption Cont. My 'need to convince' is not so much an attempt at conversion, as an attempt to discuss. If you challenge me, I will respond, just as I would expect you to respond if I challenge you. In a world in which we must co-habit, discussions and debates are needed to mediate our differences and understand who and what we all are.
@DreamerbyDeseption I think I understand what you mean. But then, is it the religious beliefs that we should blame, or the coercive state that enables such religious groups to enact & enforce legislation to justify terrible things? Without a coercive state, my feeling is religion would be no threat to us at all. It's theocratic statism I fear, not religion per se. So long as they don't try to legislatively force me to observe religious rituals, pray, go to war, or restrict my freedoms.
@toluca56 I don't blame a belief for anything the holder of that belief does. Likewise, I do not blame a state system for bad things happening, though I do recognize that the system has an impact on the outcome. I blame those who abuse the system. And trying the restriction of freedoms you outlined above is an abuse of a liberal democratic system. Differing beliefs are good; debates are good; trying to make what you believe govern the lives of others without regard to their beliefs is not.
@DreamerbyDeseption Sounds like we are in agreement. I have, however, given up trying to have rational arguments with people of religion, since they can never even agree on the premises to begin with (nor the rules of rational discourse or what constitutes evidence). If you can't agree on basic premises, like "feelings, dogma, and so-called holy texts or the pronouncements of 'authorities' are insufficient as evidence to justify belief," that tends to be where the argument stops.
When I look at nature I Don't see any God. But I still enjoy it's beauty.
In fact one of the most beautiful explainable phenomena in nature is the aurora borealis. The only reason to think God made it, is if you don't understand physics, solar winds and electro-magnetism.
Jealously is such a petty human emotion to have for an incorporeal deity who created the f*cking UNIVERSE. Gees, if I was God I'd have a lot more fun with my powers than try to govern greedy, unintelligent collections of bacteria, then tell them to worship me. In fact God is so human that it's a wonder no-one puts 2 and 2 together and deduces that Humans made up God which is why God has so many human characteristics.
@codyjohn1551 We all hav free will. Nobody is forced to believe what they believe. They chose that path. You choose to be an atheist. Doesnt give you any more free will than the person next to you. You ever seen a lying, cheatin, selfish christian? I have. They made choices hence free will.
@andyism232 There is no neutral ground buddy. Not believing is a choice. Its like standing in the middle of a firelight and saying "Im ok cus Im neutral". You not deciding what side your is you choosing to be on your own and your gonna get shot.
@parkert51 i totaly agree with your statment, and find it very smart and logical. however i giggled just a little when you said "mythological creature" cuase i know perfectly what you ment, i just luaghed becuase when you used that wored i imagened you going to go fight a Dragon or Semitar or something lol
I know so many people like this guy, I dislike all of them. Their whole "free your mind" approach is so much B. S. it pisses me off more than any fundamentalist argument.
I liked the caller, and wasn't a fan of how he was treated here... he said from the outset that he didn't want to try and convince them that god existed - that wasn't the point of his call at all. I think there's some truth to what he said about perspective. If you are a materialist, then that logically leads you to an atheistic viewpoint. However, if you think that thoughts or immaterial things exist - or that there is existence outside of space and time - then that leaves space for god(s).
I think a major point that isn't addressed in this response (which I thought was reasonable) is found in the "believer's" question. "What's in it for me?" by nature is a self centered question and by definition of the Judeo-Christian God's commandments and proclamations throughout the bible would be entirely irrelevant. I would further push the issue with the believer that from that point of view one has to hold that an all powerful deity is reduced to a mechanism for salvation.
@Sn4pDr4gon Well there's also the idea of "Pascal's Wager" (it's on wiki)... since there's no cost to being religious (unless you choose to assume a cost, which is voluntary), then why not just assume god exists? Then you can get some of the benefits of religion, like having social and/or moral support.
I respect your opinion and I am familiar with Pascals Wager. I am also aware that it works in any context. First...and clearly...believing in religion is not the same as believing in God. Religion is not God. Second, using a negative Atheistic model for pascals wager....the benefits could be considered just as profound. No fear of hell. No renegade, angry and jealous God in charge of ones fate. A breakdown in procrastination due to not living forever....etc. Listening to others..
Sad thing about the God concept is that all religion is based on false demigods. If there is a true creator then it is not a human. It would be the absolute force that binds all things. As a for instance, the God Particle (Higgs Boson) recently discovered. Humans have been forced over the centuries to believe in the God of their tribal leader. Believe or die. After centuries these things are taken as fact. No one wants to admit they believe out of fear.
the only reason........dont put everyone in the same boat. all christians are not in it for gain. its like saying all atheist just want to sin, or all atheist are jerks.
@biblelover777 Problem is this happens on both sides. I applaud you for saying that, and I totally agree. When it comes to something as sensitive as theism/atheism then you have to look at the individual.
@biblelover777 Problem is this happens on both sides. I applaud you for saying that, and I totally agree. When it comes to something as sensitive as theism/atheism then you have to look at the individual.
@biblelover777 Finaly an intelligent person on the other side who understands logic!
I'm not gonna penalize you for being a creationist but I will congratulate you for making some sense, unlike others. If you ever debate on this topic I know that you will lose since no creationist ever wins in a debate about this, I'll just hope that you'll go down with style instead of making childish asumptions and arguments which will just make it worse.Or just leave the subject, you're to smart to bother. :D
thats all it comes down to with every single religious person. "what do they get out of it" it speaks volumes about the kind of person you are when the only reason you devote yourself to the belief in a god, is because of personal gain. Greed and fear are the only driving factors behind any religion.
Actually there is a lot. It affects your reality which affects the way you think, which affects the choices you make in life hundreds of times a day. The closer your thinking is to actual reality, the more you will get out of life and the easier your life will be.
Now, I accept a majority of scientific beliefs in theories so long as they have sufficient evidence. But I will always, always, consider the fact that science is really explaining how the universe works. I don't think it really sufficiently explains why the universe works. Why does anything exist at all? Why is there a law of gravity, and why are there laws of physics? If science and nature is all there is, why can we ask "why"? It does not seem to capture the whole picture.
You might want to know that scientists are actualy working on discovering why 'laws' work the way they do and where they came from. Just do some research and take note that it's important to not forget that science is still incomplete. Working out the laws is a required step in order to find out about their origins. Scientists can't simply jump to the most important question of all and start working from there, it doesn't work that way.
What's in it for you to be a theist? Is it a promise of an everlasting afterlife? Isn't that prospect of eternal reward selfish? Say, at the end of your life, you find yourself standing next to an uknown soul before God and God tells you that only one of you gets to go to Heaven and the other MUST go to Hell and that only YOU can make that choice, who would you choose? Would that be an easy choice? Now imagine if that other soul was a loved one, like your daughter or wife?
There is no beenifits... other thenw aht he said, not saying anything that can't tectonically be proven) i personlly, am just a man who can't beilve anything without complete proof...
if you want a prize, i hear if you are a Muslim you get to go to heaven AND Allah throws in like 72 free virgins, thats 72 virgins more then Christianity offers!!! If anyone knows any better prizes let me know, I'm trying to score big =D
It's fascinating that he asks this question. It shows that believers are all about satisfying some internal desire or need, not about holding to facts. That is really what all faith is about: gaining something for yourself and maybe also your loved ones. So what if atheism has nothing to offer? Why does the truth have to offer something? If there really is no god, yeah. you ain't gonna get nothing, so why spend all this time and energy being devoted to a lie?
So I get it now... Athiest believe in science... Science is a way of denying that God existed. People need proof, and there proof is from a man that came up with evolution right? When was evolution introduced to the society? What were the motives behind it and methods behind it? Why do so many people believe in what another man says all the time? So if I made fire from a sky then people would follow me and do as I say because they seen what I can do right? Define "Deceived" please...
Damn, that means all of you biblethumpers who've ever killed snails have killed your god's most precious creations! Are you proud of yourselves, you murderers??
I'm an atheist because I want to live my life as I see fit, not according to somebody else's bullshit rules. I'm nice and kind to people because I CAN be, not because I HAVE to be. I don't need nor want a god to get in my way by telling me I can only do certain things. I like having free will, thank you very much. I just thought of something...If life is created by a man and a woman, then wouldn't that make the male god asexual? Like a snail? If were made in his image, shouldn't we be like that?
@SkelanimalKitteh You know who you really just described deep down inside? You described satan right in your heart but, Jesus can remove those feelings from you when you accept him into your heart and you will see the truth when you live by the commandments. You also didnt say you dont beleive in God you are rebelling God because his way of life is to hard for you when you only make it hard for yourself.and actually bro, God made eve for adam so he wouldnt be alone. Quit denying God.
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 According to biblethumpers, God's always been there. It's totally ridiculous and laughable to consider the Big Bang as fact, but believing a god, who has always been there, got bored one day and decided to create life. Awesome, right? /sarcasm
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 Actually when you meet the heavenly father I want to be there when you ask him that question so I can see what happens to you. You should take that back and ask God to forgive you cause when you feel his wrath its not goin to be funny but it goin to be hilarious and I hope I dont go to hell for sayin that but, I think you should fear God. Also if you didnt know we are in the last day and where will the big soup bowl be to save you when you are told to accept the mark of the beast
@tlrflyguy860 There are innumerable reasons NOT to believe in an omnipotent omniscient 'supreme being' who supposedly created us but allows all the evil in the world to persist. It is a completely ridiculous scenario and would be rejected by any rationally-thinking human being. I am elated that I am not constrained by religious beliefs which threaten me with eternal torture if I don't 'cheer' for God. It doesn't matter what heinous acts you commit...as long as you worship God. Please...
@CynicalSkeptic1 Something is wrong with you and Im not saying that Im perfect. But when people talk like you do its just a little outrages right or vice versa. It evidence that the thing in the bible happened and it can be proven but if it is released to the public then it destroys the lies some have created. But, my argument is not with you its with the people who made you all believe these things and taught you to deny God and you might say you havent but clearly you have.
@tlrflyguy860 I was a Christian for twenty years...and my parents sent me to a Christian school. So, if anything, I speak from an informed perspective. If accepting logic / reason and rejecting faith indicates that "Something is wrong with me"....then I happily concur. You should Google "Least likely to believe in God" and "Religiosity vs intellect studies" and see what you find. I will gladly accept my placement in the 'wrong' catagory since I am apparently grouped with the 'great thinkers'
@tlrflyguy860 Why should I fear God? I'm not scared of him. If he's going to make over half of the world's population suffer in hell JUST for not believeing in him, so be it. I'll glady take the mark of the beast, as a matter of fact, I'll wear it with fucking pride.
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 Its okay... You will have your moment to discuss this with God one day. Gods word will only prove itself true and the people who dont believe will be given a chance to but, if you plan on being ignorant then go ahead I cant change you only you can.
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 Actually when you meet the heavenly father I want to be there when you ask him that question so I can see what happens to you. You should take that back and ask God to forgive you cause when you feel his wrath its not goin to be funny but it goin to be hilarious and I hope I dont go to hell for sayin that but I think you should fear God. Also if you didnt know we are in the last days and where will the big soup bowl be to save you when you are told to accept the mark of the beast
Finally, some material evidence of GOD. Since I can actually talk to you now....can you please provide food for the millions of children who starve to death each year. Also, please cure all the terminally-ill people and stop the murderers and the child-rapists. We all know that this was part of your 'perfect' plan....but it would appear that we have differing viewpoints as far as 'perfection' is concerned. This I pray, Amen.
@CynicalSkeptic1 WoW!!! this is how you can tell people dont read the bible. You just made yourself look like a butt on national youtube. Is this Deny God heaven or something? Why do you mock God the way you do? Are you racist? Do you think that white people are superior to black people? Oh I know you think pokemon is real because a pikachu can evolve into I richu. Dont you see how they mock evolution? They Love it so much they made a cartoon about it... Chinese kids love athiest...
@tlrflyguy860 How old are you? It would appear that you are quite immature. I am not familiar with any specific 'pokemon' characters but the fact that you are speaks volumes. I find it humorous that apparently you have been able to psychically ascertain that I have racist inclinations. Please elucidate on exactly how I exhibited ignorance in reference to the Bible.
@CynicalSkeptic1 yeah that was quite ignorant of me and I apologize okay but, I was just making a funny and I am young enough to had owned a set of pokemon cards when they first came out and old enough to be in the military and understand what deceived is. When you have been taught lies that have harsh motives behind them and you believe them then you are being deceived. Im just saying bro. Now that have your attention you can accept Jesus as your savior or you can continue to deny God.
@tlrflyguy860 I accepted Jesus as my savior for twenty years. I lost my faith in religion when so many things in reality began to continually conflict with my beliefs. Anyhow, I have seen both sides of the issue and that is the reason that I am an Atheist. You can think that I worship the devil...but I am just a normal guy who doesn't happen to believe like you do.
@CynicalSkeptic1 Situations like this touch me all the time because I do understand how it feels to lose faith sometimes and just feel like you have to give up but, God will put you to the test just to test your faith. Like I said Im not perfect and nobody is. I dont think you worship the devil I just feel like thats who you described. But, I cant make you believe in God and nobody can, you have to accept him for yourself and not for somebody else.
@tlrflyguy860 There is no reason to believe in an omnipotent being as I have previously described. I appreciate the sentiment...but I have no intention of retrieving my belief in God unless there were evidence to prove his existence. Until that time I will remain an Atheist.
@CynicalSkeptic1 the word god is a variable, because its said, we as a race could not comprehend his existence. what we could acknowledge is element and principles of design, and if these principles r found with in our very own biochemistry then we have a clear case.
@kissntellen Ok, then following your logic...God made me so that I couldn't comprehend his existence. Since he is allegedly omnipotent, it would appear that he could have modified this strategy. He is also supposedly responsible for giving me an inquisitive and questioning mind. But nonetheless, since his plan was to make it impossible for me to 'comprehend his existence' then I will capitulate to his wishes.
@CynicalSkeptic1 i thought i made it clear that when i said " the word god is a variable" i was falsifying the concept of religious preconceived notion. when i say god, im actually implying the concept of design more so then the supernatural deity.
@kissntellen Yes...there are many ways to rationalize God's existence...you have chosen one of many frequently utilized by religious believers. The list goes on and on.....
@CynicalSkeptic1 when we observe a biological preset of an extremely complex natural process, such as the one we see in protein synthesis, we could only hypothesize how it could of originated. if ur not familiar with the process ill explain it for u. a protein polymerase would scan the bases on the dna structure copying and translating the information.a hundred different enzymes which is attached to the polymerase would also proof read to ensure no mistake was made.
@CynicalSkeptic1 the translated information (mrna) would be used during the construction of the protein. ribosome uses the rnat as a source of information, every 3 bases that has passed through the ribosome, an amino acid would be taken until a whole chain has been made. the chain would fold into the necessary protein. if u would just read a book on design strategy and a university level biochemistry textbook, im sure u would find a great deal of similarity.
@kissntellen Excuse me...but your subtle attempts to insult my intelligence are truly infantile. Exactly how would your description be related to validation of God's existence? Since God allegedly created us from 'dirt' then our biochemisty should be somewhat similar to 'mud'. If this were the case then I would be much more inclined to believe in God. If your two verbose posts were offered to provide evidence for the existence of God....then you failed miserably.
@CynicalSkeptic1 "Exactly how would your description be related to validation of God's existence" i was giving u an example of a biological process, paralleled to design patterns which we use. "Since God allegedly created us from 'dirt' then our biochemisty should be somewhat similar to 'mud". u insist on assuming that im christian, when i repeated over and over that i use 'god' as a concept. i use a god because he's a culturally familiar deity, and relevant to the topic of design.
@CynicalSkeptic1 it could be a extraterrestrial life form for all im concern because im arguing not for the existence of the designer but the concept of a design
@CynicalSkeptic1 "If your two verbose posts were offered to provide evidence for the existence of God....then you failed miserably". no i have not sir, i have gave u a great example of a natural process that gave an appearance of design. u on the contrary u sir have failed to explain why i have failed miserably, and to present solid evidence for perspective of abiogenesis and a deity.
@kissntellen You said "i hope through these last messages that u hae learned the error of ur ways, and would stop typing out dumb letters out of ur ego.".
Actually, I gave up on you....your interpretation of God is bizarre and there was no reason to compose a response. Anyone who states that God is 'beyond comprehension' and then espouses 'how' to comprehend him is truly deluded.
@CynicalSkeptic1 YOU GAVE UP ON ME, WOW. how many god damn times do i have to say i don't believe in the personal interpretation of god or any deity for that matters, but i use the concept they represent. what ur trying to do is to twist words up.
@CynicalSkeptic1 "there are many ways to rationalize God's existence". did i not say i used god as a familiar deity for the concept of design. it could of be extraterrestrial life for all im concern, but what im trying to explain is the element of design is undeniable.
@CynicalSkeptic1 we r able to compare man made complexity to our own biological function. for example the natural process of protein synthesis it reminds us very clearly of our own 21st century technology. DNA is used as a source of information but its not a contingent source of information. it first must be translated, by a protein polymerase and about 100 different enzymes. the polymerase spits out a copy of the rna transcript.

@CynicalSkeptic1 the bases on the rnat would be then again translated and used to form protein out of amino acids. im not saying that a magic man done it, im saying that there are features of design in the realm of biochemistry. u wouldn't believe the similarity if u just open a book on biochemistry and another on software design.
@ejdf870 yeah and it seems this guy only believes in and prays to god because of fear to go to hell and that by believing in and praying to god he will go to heaven, which is probably one of the main reasons ppl believe in god, because they fear the unknown, but you, theists, don't need to fear this unknown god but you should not care because god is not unknown, he is just inexistent
What's in it for me if I waste my entire life believing in lies and empty promises? Why is it that people seem to think if they don't lie to themselves that life will be meaning less and horrible? I thought I was a cynic, but I guess I'm virtual Pollyanna compared to the average believer in Christianity!
He says your "Free" yet most of these guys focus on why Christians are wrong. To me that doesn't sound like freedom. It sounds more like a reindoctrination.
My least favorite part of the religion vs. atheism argument is the whole "you're limiting yourself, you're selling yourself short, you're missing out on so much because you don't have God in your life."
I still feel awe & wonder. I still get inspired. I still feel love, & pain, & all the other emotions that everyone else feels. I still look at the world & think that the trees are gorgeous, & when my sister had children, I cried for the beauty of a new life. I just did it all without a god.
Why is it when so many Christians say "Im a good fellow/person i am a Christian". As if it implies all Christians are good moral people. Ive never heard an atheist have to make this statement of opinion. I can't see how opinions can dictate ones life when there are facts overuling those opinions. What's in it for me to believe and trust science? It saves your life, makes life easier, etc. So many depend on these sciences, but reject science when it murkies their "perspective".
This is like the good old "no morality without god" fallacy. These people need a reward or something to motivate them to do anything. Not only are they stupid but they're also fucking lazy.

Wah47 1 month ago
@Wah47 There is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Its their business. They are not harming anyone with their attraction to the same sex. Christians just want to control other people's life.

nikitty020 3 months ago
@nikitty020
1) Those things make sense whether you are religious or not.
2) No benefits? Not believing in magical nonsense means living in the real world. No fear of an imaginary hell.
3) Nobody to turn to? Friends, neighbors and family.
4) Atheists do help others, including helping non-atheists.
5) Hopeless? Based on what? For example,I hope that you someday get a clue on the subject.
6) We are reasoning. You simply can't understand rational thought.
ndrthrdr1 3 months ago
@ndrthrdr1 how many believers fear hell? most believers don't even think theyre going to hell and some don't believe in it. nobody to turn to as in if you have a problem that NO MAN can solve(loosing job, house, car, etc.) and you need a higher power to help you. if you loose hope in everything religion gives ppl hope. without it, many ppl wouldn't know what to do. atheists can't help with such things. all they'll say is don't pray its useless THERES NO GOD and put u more in depression.
nikitty020 3 months ago
@nikitty020 There are effective ways to deal with depression, ways that actually help. Exercise, good sleep habits, healthy diet, counseling, reducing stress, accepting things that we can't change, adopting realistic expectations, socializing with friends, dealing with problems that cause the depression, etc. Prayer is a placebo.
ndrthrdr1 3 months ago
@ndrthrdr1 so basically suicide is the only way.. got it. all that crap usually doesn't work. prayer works. thats why ppl do it. me and many others around the world know it. you just don't want to believe it cause u THINK theres no God lol and everytime a new person has a testimony about a healed illness etc u immediately DENY it and say it just fixed itself LOL!!! you ppl need some help. if its all a placebo why don't u try other placebos on us and see if it works lol
nikitty020 3 months ago
@nikitty020 Where do you get this "suicide is the only way" idea? The only way to what?
Vague claims like you make here about prayer working aren't evidence. Your prayers are placebos. Cut and paste this into your YouTube search box: The best optical illusion in the world!

That video explains it perfectly, and notice the ratio of Likes to Dislikes. Also, notice that it's you focusing on suicide, not me. Unless someone brings it up, I don't give it a thought.
ndrthrdr1 3 months ago
@ndrthrdr1 i wasnt trying to give any evidence! why would i? you've already told yourself that prayer doesn't work so nothing will convince you otherwise! and you know it! nothing that supports beliefs are evidence to you athiest so i won't bother. you're all so closed minded. you'll only listen to those who are on your side regardless of whether or not they have any real proof. you can't even prove it doesn't work! so all you have are beliefs and claims based off DENIAL.
nikitty020 3 months ago
@nikitty020 Actually, you've already convinced yourself that prayer works in spite of the fact that there is absolutely no empirical evidence of the existence of any such thing. Hard data proving you wrong is simply ignored because you are not mentally well.

(sigh) They are wide open, and right now I'm looking at a guy who's making an argument equivalent to "I'm right, but I don't want to tell you how I know."
By the way, how do you even define a "fundamentalist" atheist vs. a "regular" atheist?
kerrkr12 6 months ago
@kerrkr12 haha. I guess on the same token if he believes that someone murdered someone else. they murdered someone else regardless of whether there is or isn't evidence. He doesn't owe anybody proof. haha. He probably thinks "I'm right, but I don't want to tell you how I know" for that situation as well. :)
ohanatachiable 6 months ago
Another note on your reply: atheism, is the LACK of belief. I have no belief in god. You do, and I currently have no reason to take YOUR belief seriously, as you haven't backed it up at all.
kerrkr12 6 months ago
No it isn't black and white. There's a large number of religions and they all have different theologies and belief systems. Many are polytheistic and believe in many gods. An atheist, as even the the definition you posted declares, is a person who says, "Yeah, you're 'god' or 'gods' is/are bullshit." I'm only interested in what you think your proof is. If you show me real, hard, evidence, I'll change my mind in a second. But don't think I won't scrutinize it before I accept it.

@dex1391 Because the assertion that there is no god is not a positive declaration.

I peacefully live with people who believe in gods and superstition.
toluca56 9 months ago
@toluca56 My dislike of religion isn't towards the individual it's the effect that religious beliefs have on the advancement of mankind. So much break through science has been held back by religious beliefs in the past and continues to be today and it's purely down to archaic religious beliefs that were initially there to explain phenomenons that we now have a very full understanding of. Basically, science is the future and religion and science are completely incompatible!!
maskofsan1ty 9 months ago
@maskofsan1ty I think that's true, but only if a religious majority try to force their beliefs on the rest of us. As long as they're laissez-faire, they can believe in Santa Klaus, aliens and fairies as far as I care, and practice whatever irrational religious rituals they wish. I'm opposed to *coercive* religion. But I feel no threat at all from Taoists or the Amish, for example. As long as they leave us rational-empirical-scientific folks to live without interference, things will be great.
toluca56 9 months ago
@toluca56 Believe what you like. But, if you challenge me with your beliefs, try to enact legislation based on your religion, or try to justify things that I find terrible through your religion, I'm not just going to let things lie, especially in a situation where it effects my life. I also think that in some way it is our job as human beings to challenge one another, respectfully. Without being challenged we don't change, without change we don't grow, without growth we are dead.
DreamerbyDeseption 9 months ago
@DreamerbyDeseption Cont. My 'need to convince' is not so much an attempt at conversion, as an attempt to discuss. If you challenge me, I will respond, just as I would expect you to respond if I challenge you. In a world in which we must co-habit, discussions and debates are needed to mediate our differences and understand who and what we all are.
DreamerbyDeseption 9 months ago
@DreamerbyDeseption I think I understand what you mean. But then, is it the religious beliefs that we should blame, or the coercive state that enables such religious groups to enact & enforce legislation to justify terrible things? Without a coercive state, my feeling is religion would be no threat to us at all. It's theocratic statism I fear, not religion per se. So long as they don't try to legislatively force me to observe religious rituals, pray, go to war, or restrict my freedoms.
toluca56 9 months ago
@toluca56 I don't blame a belief for anything the holder of that belief does. Likewise, I do not blame a state system for bad things happening, though I do recognize that the system has an impact on the outcome. I blame those who abuse the system. And trying the restriction of freedoms you outlined above is an abuse of a liberal democratic system. Differing beliefs are good; debates are good; trying to make what you believe govern the lives of others without regard to their beliefs is not.
DreamerbyDeseption 9 months ago
@DreamerbyDeseption trying to achieve*
DreamerbyDeseption 9 months ago
@DreamerbyDeseption Sounds like we are in agreement. I have, however, given up trying to have rational arguments with people of religion, since they can never even agree on the premises to begin with (nor the rules of rational discourse or what constitutes evidence). If you can't agree on basic premises, like "feelings, dogma, and so-called holy texts or the pronouncements of 'authorities' are insufficient as evidence to justify belief," that tends to be where the argument stops.

However, if you think that thoughts or immaterial things exist - or that there is existence outside of space and time - then that leaves space for god(s).
raleighwhisp 9 months ago
I think a major point that isn't addressed in this response (which I thought was reasonable) is found in the "believer's" question. "What's in it for me?" by nature is a self centered question and by definition of the Judeo-Christian God's commandments and proclamations throughout the bible would be entirely irrelevant. I would further push the issue with the believer that from that point of view one has to hold that an all powerful deity is reduced to a mechanism for salvation.
Sn4pDr4gon 9 months ago
@Sn4pDr4gon Well there's also the idea of "Pascal's Wager" (it's on wiki)... since there's no cost to being religious (unless you choose to assume a cost, which is voluntary), then why not just assume god exists? Then you can get some of the benefits of religion, like having social and/or moral support.
raleighwhisp 9 months ago
@raleighwhisp

Chaosprincess01 11 months ago
@Chaosprincess01

Now imagine if that other soul was a loved one, like your daughter or wife?

alstar999 11 months ago

SkelanimalKitteh 1 year ago
@SkelanimalKitteh You know who you really just described deep down inside? You described satan right in your heart but, Jesus can remove those feelings from you when you accept him into your heart and you will see the truth when you live by the commandments. You also didnt say you dont beleive in God you are rebelling God because his way of life is to hard for you when you only make it hard for yourself.and actually bro, God made eve for adam so he wouldnt be alone. Quit denying God.

Ask a Christian this. "Did God create existence?" Their answer would be something like "yes!". Then, if God created EXISTENCE, what created God?
A7XSLIPKNOT100 1 year ago
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 According to biblethumpers, God's always been there. It's totally ridiculous and laughable to consider the Big Bang as fact, but believing a god, who has always been there, got bored one day and decided to create life. Awesome, right? /sarcasm
SkelanimalKitteh 1 year ago
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 Actually when you meet the heavenly father I want to be there when you ask him that question so I can see what happens to you. You should take that back and ask God to forgive you cause when you feel his wrath its not goin to be funny but it goin to be hilarious and I hope I dont go to hell for sayin that but, I think you should fear God. Also if you didnt know we are in the last day and where will the big soup bowl be to save you when you are told to accept the mark of the beast
tlrflyguy860 11 months ago
@tlrflyguy860 There are innumerable reasons NOT to believe in an omnipotent omniscient 'supreme being' who supposedly created us but allows all the evil in the world to persist. It is a completely ridiculous scenario and would be rejected by any rationally-thinking human being. I am elated that I am not constrained by religious beliefs which threaten me with eternal torture if I don't 'cheer' for God. It doesn't matter what heinous acts you commit...as long as you worship God. Please...
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 Something is wrong with you and Im not saying that Im perfect. But when people talk like you do its just a little outrages right or vice versa. It evidence that the thing in the bible happened and it can be proven but if it is released to the public then it destroys the lies some have created. But, my argument is not with you its with the people who made you all believe these things and taught you to deny God and you might say you havent but clearly you have.
tlrflyguy860 11 months ago
@tlrflyguy860 I was a Christian for twenty years...and my parents sent me to a Christian school. So, if anything, I speak from an informed perspective. If accepting logic / reason and rejecting faith indicates that "Something is wrong with me"....then I happily concur. You should Google "Least likely to believe in God" and "Religiosity vs intellect studies" and see what you find. I will gladly accept my placement in the 'wrong' catagory since I am apparently grouped with the 'great thinkers'
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@tlrflyguy860 Why should I fear God? I'm not scared of him. If he's going to make over half of the world's population suffer in hell JUST for not believeing in him, so be it. I'll glady take the mark of the beast, as a matter of fact, I'll wear it with fucking pride.
A7XSLIPKNOT100 11 months ago
@A7XSLIPKNOT100 Its okay... You will have your moment to discuss this with God one day. Gods word will only prove itself true and the people who dont believe will be given a chance to but, if you plan on being ignorant then go ahead I cant change you only you can.

CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 yeah that was quite ignorant of me and I apologize okay but, I was just making a funny and I am young enough to had owned a set of pokemon cards when they first came out and old enough to be in the military and understand what deceived is. When you have been taught lies that have harsh motives behind them and you believe them then you are being deceived. Im just saying bro. Now that have your attention you can accept Jesus as your savior or you can continue to deny God.
tlrflyguy860 11 months ago
@tlrflyguy860 I accepted Jesus as my savior for twenty years. I lost my faith in religion when so many things in reality began to continually conflict with my beliefs. Anyhow, I have seen both sides of the issue and that is the reason that I am an Atheist. You can think that I worship the devil...but I am just a normal guy who doesn't happen to believe like you do.
Anyhow, I wish you the best in your religion.
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 Situations like this touch me all the time because I do understand how it feels to lose faith sometimes and just feel like you have to give up but, God will put you to the test just to test your faith. Like I said Im not perfect and nobody is. I dont think you worship the devil I just feel like thats who you described. But, I cant make you believe in God and nobody can, you have to accept him for yourself and not for somebody else.
tlrflyguy860 11 months ago
@tlrflyguy860 There is no reason to believe in an omnipotent being as I have previously described. I appreciate the sentiment...but I have no intention of retrieving my belief in God unless there were evidence to prove his existence. Until that time I will remain an Atheist.
Thanks for your thoughts and good luck.

@CynicalSkeptic1 the word god is a variable, because its said, we as a race could not comprehend his existence. what we could acknowledge is element and principles of design, and if these principles r found with in our very own biochemistry then we have a clear case.
kissntellen 11 months ago
@kissntellen Ok, then following your logic...God made me so that I couldn't comprehend his existence. Since he is allegedly omnipotent, it would appear that he could have modified this strategy. He is also supposedly responsible for giving me an inquisitive and questioning mind. But nonetheless, since his plan was to make it impossible for me to 'comprehend his existence' then I will capitulate to his wishes.
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 i thought i made it clear that when i said " the word god is a variable" i was falsifying the concept of religious preconceived notion. when i say god, im actually implying the concept of design more so then the supernatural deity.
kissntellen 11 months ago
@kissntellen Yes...there are many ways to rationalize God's existence...you have chosen one of many frequently utilized by religious believers. The list goes on and on.....
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 when we observe a biological preset of an extremely complex natural process, such as the one we see in protein synthesis, we could only hypothesize how it could of originated. if ur not familiar with the process ill explain it for u. a protein polymerase would scan the bases on the dna structure copying and translating the information.a hundred different enzymes which is attached to the polymerase would also proof read to ensure no mistake was made.
kissntellen 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 the translated information (mrna) would be used during the construction of the protein. ribosome uses the rnat as a source of information, every 3 bases that has passed through the ribosome, an amino acid would be taken until a whole chain has been made. the chain would fold into the necessary protein. if u would just read a book on design strategy and a university level biochemistry textbook, im sure u would find a great deal of similarity.
kissntellen 11 months ago
@kissntellen Excuse me...but your subtle attempts to insult my intelligence are truly infantile. Exactly how would your description be related to validation of God's existence? Since God allegedly created us from 'dirt' then our biochemisty should be somewhat similar to 'mud'. If this were the case then I would be much more inclined to believe in God. If your two verbose posts were offered to provide evidence for the existence of God....then you failed miserably.
CynicalSkeptic1 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 "Exactly how would your description be related to validation of God's existence" i was giving u an example of a biological process, paralleled to design patterns which we use. "Since God allegedly created us from 'dirt' then our biochemisty should be somewhat similar to 'mud". u insist on assuming that im christian, when i repeated over and over that i use 'god' as a concept. i use a god because he's a culturally familiar deity, and relevant to the topic of design.
kissntellen 11 months ago
@CynicalSkeptic1 it could be a extraterrestrial life form for all im concern because im arguing not for the existence of the designer but the concept of a design

This, my friends, exposes the fallacy of religion and its believers- they "believe" because they want to, not because there is evidence to believe.

@Lorah72 What I find funny when they say that... is that they just say that: "missing out so much", but never saying what exactly it is Im missing.
Prayer? In fact Im just gaining time over you right there, proven to change absolutely nothing; loss of time
Afterlife in heaven? I don't care for missing out false hope, neither for missing out on the fear of hell
Love of God? I don't care for his ego's love anyway if he'll only give it if I worship him, I like better my friends' and family's
