  • i don't get it. can someone explain it?

  • You mentioned in another edoe/taro vid that the raw flesh of the spud irritated your hand. It probably would. They contain an alkali or something that is made harmless by cooking. You could try par cooking them in their woolly jackets, cooling them, and then peeling. A 30 minute soak in water and then simmering gently will get rid of all the bad stuff. They are nice unmashed too, unique texture. Don't overcook them though or they fall apart.

  • @hangawara yes, that could have been the problem. They are lovely but I haven't bought any for ages.

  • You are so hillarious!

  • wow. striking eyes. really.

  • Teletubbies loves Eddoes. They are one of their Favorite Things.

When tubbies greet each other they say "Eddoe!"

  • ooooo dont pay attention to those nasty people who comment =)

  • I think your weird.

  • Legend has it that there was originally a basket of edoes to go along with the loaves and fishes, but Willian Tyndale edited it out of his English translation. Some people suspect that was the real reason he was burned at the stake.

  • ...

  • She is and looks weird

  • Apparently she's not fat enough to interest you

  • wow sense of humor too

  • The eddoe is for life

    NOT FOR CHRISTMAS! =]

  • But it just wouldn't be Christmas without Eddoes

  • its annabel again

  • From this moment, I'm a fan of your videos : )

  • do u wear coloured contacts?

  • No. My eyes are sort of hazel so they reflect the light strangely. See the New Glasses video for my bare naked eyes without my usual (not coloured) contact lenses!

  • You are wierd however i really enjoy cooking so i shall use many of the ingredients in my cooking but your wierd

  • Eddoes are the root of all evil!!!

  • Brandenburg Concerto. Nice.

  • a bit of a fixation on the veggies ay?

The renaissance music makes this vid awesome

  • Well I have 219 videos and only a few feature vegetables!

  • Did somthing affect your life to do this?

  • Mmmmmm, Taro! Vegetarian's Delight! It's big in Chinese cooking, especially if you're Buddhist.

Yours are sprouting, you could plant them.

  • Too late - they are in my belly! Very nice.

  • More Mmmmm! That's a good place for them!

  • what does it taste like Elise?

  • Well I would say "chicken" but it would be a lie! It's more like a potato if anything. Though maybe a bit more starchy. Possibly a little parsnippy actually.

  • yuck i hate parsnip lol

  • But more potatoey. it hasn't got the sweetness of parsnip!

  • Feared by the bad, loved by the good! Eddoe! Sometimes Taro! Usually Edoe! Will you be taking up that chair in Medieval Vegology at YouTuber University - Professor E.V. Harris has a certain ring to it ...

  • it look strange!

  • Tastes good though!

  • i've never heard of eddoes in my entire f*ing life. in fact, my spell check also hates that word. lol, i love you. eddoes=not-a-word-in-american-english

  • lol!! cool

    you eat it with?

how do you even cook an eddoe, what do

  • Pretend it's a potato and you won't go far wrong.

  • well now i know all about this extremely kind erm vegetable

nice to see that there are more vegetable videos they're great!!!!

  • Never heard of an Eddoe and I thank you for spreading the word about it.

  • I dont believe america has eddoes

  • Oh no - every time you say that an eddoe dies! Keep saying "I do believe in eddoes! I do, I do!"

  • Well in that case. I believe the eddoes will rise and become one of the world's greatest vegetables! WE WANT EDDOES! WE WANT EDDOES!

  • Entertaining as always! Especially because once or twice I haven't heard of the names of some of these vegetables before, such as this one.

  • Lol... I love how americans dont get this humour :)

I want an eddoe now... where do you get them from??

yet another great vid aswell hehe

    keep them coming :)

  • Tesco say they sell them all around the country - but I am not so sure. You can also get them in small food shops in various places - they seem to be popular in a lot of places worldwide.

  • REally? wow... i should relaly open my eyes a bit wider... its amazing what you miss when you dont know its there.. lol.. im gonna go and buy one now and raise a few little ones... maybe start a little farm hehe

  • I shall call him Eddy!!!

    No... I've changed my mind.

    Barney.

  • Dear Ms. Harris, this time you've gone too far. This is all just made up. You've picked up dirt clods from a vacant lot, made up a word and then made up some story to go with it. Some of us are trying to learn here. Please confine your fiction to some other website. Thank You.

  • nice vegetables.

  • Catherine Eddowes was killed by Jack the Ripper due to her name sounding like his least favourite vegetable.

    He spared Sally Sprout.

  • hmmm looks like a potato in a posh frock

    to me....thas what it is

  • You might have a point. It was big before the potato though - the potato is an upstart!

  • Eddoe, eddoe, dancing in the meadow.

  • I had never heard of them before this. How do they taste? What do they compare to?

  • They are like slightly nutty potatoes or yam. I have tried them sliced and fried, and roasted - which were both good - but I hear they are wonderful mashed with butter.

  • Mmmmmm... I would like them then. That's the kind of taste I enjoy. I wonder where I could find them here... mmmm.

  • Well I got some in the supermarket (Tesco and Morrisons both sell them) but then I discovered they were in practically every shop in Peckham. Vegetables are very popular round these parts!

  • They might be for sale in Asian or Caribbean/African shops.

  • Whickeppedia said they are indigenous to Egypt, and that the Roman Empire got them there. When Rome fell, so too, did this dastardly pretender to the Idaho, America potato in Europe till future explorers raided Egypt agains.

This tuber doesn't do well at all in the UK or US except in southern Florida.

  • It's a Youtuber!

  • Some of my best friends are eddoes...

  • My mind is settled now that I know all about teh eddoe :d

    Cool vid elise

  • Never heard of them!!

    Yay for the Veggie lady!!

  • Had to Google that one.

And there I thought you were passing off

    goat droppings as vegetables.

"A potato like tuber, although different in

taste; more filling, and energy producing qualities. Of the Dasheen family(Not to be confused with the Dachshund canine breed.)."

(Note: Whatever that light source on your left be, it does highlight the auburn hair on that side.)

  • I think that would be the kitchen window.

  • Let's hear it for the edoes. Just love your dead pan expression LOL! Cheers, Lesley

  • lol nice little story elise
