I can remember way back in late 1979-80 when Carter was president. I remember 52 (I think they were all Americans) hostages being held for 444 days. Thousands of Iranian students overran the U.S. Embassy in Nov. 1979, taking 90 hostages, although some were freed later on. Carter (D) sent in a covert operation (Eagle Claw) which ended in disaster. Of course, it finally took President Ronny "Raygun" Reagan(R) to finally get them freed.

There are some who fall for the Okeydoke, not realizing that the Democratic Party became what it is today because the Democrats (starting with the Southern Dems) attemped a filabuster and left and went Republican because they were angry about the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The parties began flip-flopping after the New Deal but the Civil Rights Act was the main reason. Those who were anti-integration or anti-Black became Republicans and the Republicans became Democrats.
