The problem is that 60% of current Republicans--all the loud ones--don't BELIEVE in small government. They're not conservative. They want BIG government spending, BIG government intrusion in culture and society, telling people what they can or can't do with their own bodies, in their own homes.
Bad politicians on both sides of the aisle passed TARP, Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, put the U.S. $12.3 TRILLION in debt, and quadrupled the size of government.

Vote for Conservatives in the Primary Elections, and you'll get Conservatives on the ballots for the November elections. Then we can clean house and get rid of all big spending Liberals.
You're mistake is assuming everyone who calls themselves a republican is conservative. Merely looking at politicians like John McCain and Dede Scozzafava and (formerly) Arlin Specter will make your assertion all the more laughable.
Claver is probably more effective doing what he's doing. He has more freedom to spread the message without having to stick to campaign talking points. Having said that, I'd certainly vote for him for President.
Zero sum is not a fallacy in and of itself. Zero sum is a fallacy in the context of economics, it assumes a static monetary supply.
In the context of government, every tax dollar taken from the economy is truly a dollar removed, that is then theoretically reinserted into the economy at a measured discretion.
Unless government practices for-profit enterprise, government taxation fits the definition of zero sum as it cannot grow or create wealth, it can only stay the same or diminish it.
The problem is that gov'ts are not incentivized to understand the economy in a way that a business person is.
They don't understand how to reinsert this money back into the economy in a way that would actually improve our economic situation. The so-called money multiplier theory has never worked. The reason why is because of the devastation it causes when that money is take out of the economy is greater than supposed gains.
Private industry creates wealth and prosperity and gov't destroys it
