@cmulwee001 I would imagine the words are like some other songs and added later by some other "lyricist". The them from Bonanza is really corny with words. I got kicked out of Guitar center today when I played this as fat people walked in. I suspect it was that and some other things that I played that were politically incorrect regarding other customers. The Japanese guy did nothing but laugh when I played the old WWII era movie staple pentatonic chord, or other old phrases indicating race.
I love this arrangement, namely the extreme spread between the instruments playing the deep bass notes juxtaposed against the organ and piccolo playing the high treble notes.
Lol. Sounds like a baby elephant. I'm such a geek, when I was in jr. high, I'd go to the library and check out Mancini's popular hits. It had Peter Gunn, the Pink Panther theme, Baby Elephant Walk, etc. We also played this in jr. high band. Lmao. This song is cute though. It's funny how instruments and music and make you feel things, remember things, see things.
hey ya'all our baby elephant is doing fine here in the Portland Oregon Zoo.......from an animal enthusiastic...I thought of this song today when the news showed us annother update on the "little" cutie peace people
It is a lovely piece. I recalled how I joined in group dancing following the baby elephant steps. It was the old good time which I shared with my old buddies.
I danced to this in a dance thing. My teacher from school teaches choir, Does Road Crew (Special chorus), and taught the dance. Her name is Julie HUdson and her husband owns HUdson's Hamburgers. NOT KIDDING
I think this is the original Mancini arrangement. I mourned his death for over a week as most musicians did. A dark day for musicians everywhere. The term "muscial genius" is used far too often for muscians like for instance Ray Charles. OK, kudos for being a blind piano player - with a great ear for rhytmn and style, but muscical GENIUS? Doubtful.
Mancini was a genius in that not only was he an accomplished musician, he COMPOSED hundreds of songs. 40 Grammys and 4 Oscars!
i am in band for my high school, and i play this music. its a very good piece of music. it won us our trophy. it rocks!!!!!(though, it sounds better this way if you have the essential instruments)^.^
A very very thin Panther (UNDERNOURISH). We had two Panthers in our local Zoo where I live. It manage to free it self and escape because it was not being fed for days. Thats not all, the Peacocks in my zoo has no FEATHERS !!
Such a superb tune, thanks a million for posting it! Takes me WAY back to a much simpler era.

If I remember correctly, the cover version by Lawrence Welk was an almost exact copy of Henry Mancini's, correct?
And believe or not, there are words to this song.

It's Eb Clarinet.

I'm guessing clarinet at the start and holding the main melody with a bit of sax (tenor, perhaps) and trumpet thrown in.
