Bird is like "I'm trying to communicate with these strange, featherless creatures, but I just can't seem to get across what I want to say! Don't they know I want them to give me some more food and then take that blasted camera out of my face? Is 'Hi' not saying that?!?"
hi can i ask what fruit n veg and stuff can you feed a 4 month old macaw? and how much should you give and how often? thanks :) ive looked into it abit but not sure on how much of what to give, and a what age, the lady i got him off said he has just come off formula and to feed him banannas and 3 walnuts a day but if i was a parrot id get bored of having that everyday just want him to have abit of variety .... hope all this makes sense :)
Horrible slogin, I agree, BUT there has been a proposed law that anyone caught posting videos on youtube with someone singing songs that are copyrighted, they can be sent to jail for up to 5 years! Please sign... freebeiber. org
May God Bless you and your bird my blue past away died of a heart attack one minute dancing and been funny then went to my room came back and he was dying died as I picked him up felt his last breath ,I still cry when I think about him wish you the best give him a kiss for me May God Take Care and Bless you both always .
@Freepepsi42 Actually they can. Not the true meaning of word but they can connect the meanings with functions of those word and thus start using them with meaning. Ofc, not all parrots can do this, some are just mimicking.
@TheBlueArmadillo when a parrot's pupils constrict that means that there is something of interest to them. that's how you can tell what words or phrases they will learn easily.
@TheBlueArmadillo The reason her pupils keep changing size is because she's scared... which is probably why she did not talk as much as the owner thought she would
i used to do that eye thing wen you try to look at every thing in front of u ur pupil gets huge then wen u stare like in the mirror as close in your eye as u can it gets fun try it(^_^)
Aww my blue and gold loves tomatoes, bananas, orange and I gave her a lick of ice cream and she went crazy but I never have ice cream so she never has any.
@tthomaselli2 when they're babies, the breeders put little identification bracelets on their legs to tell them apart I guess. and so if they fly away/get lost, someone can look at whats written on the bracelet and know who to call or whatever.
@tthomaselli2 The bands around the legs let breeders know the lineage of the birds, to identify the breeder, sometimes the state/country, and year of hatch. They want to keep track of the parents and siblings to avoid inbreeding.
@tthomaselli2 I forgot to mention that importing parrots as pets has been banned since the early 90's. Having a closed band which can only be put on when the parrots are babies (their foot is still flexible enough to fit through) shows that the birds were captive bred.
What a lovely bird! We have an African Grey who insists on calling every food apple. She'll actually argue with you if you try to call food anything else. xD We're bringing home our first macaw in two weeks.
lol you say bye bye and her eyes get all big and googly! Cant wait to have one of my own someday. Only when I'm financially stable and have my own house though :)
"Hi" "HI" "Do you like pumpkin?" "HI" "Do you like pumpkin?" "HI" "Is the pumpkin good? "HI" "Do you want more pumpkin? "Nooo" "Well you have to finish that pumpkin first" "Yes…" -_- It would be annoying to be a parrot.
he's beautiful. How did you train him? Just constantly talking to him? Do you recomend a bird like this for a family with a small child and dog? My dog is a beagle and very sweet. Maybe I can teach the bird to say "Shut up Hershey
Nice plummage on this bird. Whats your secret? What do you feed & do u run full spectrum lighting if so what kind? Any supplements? Just think your bird has beautiful feathers! I think I am gonna buy my girl some pumpkin for starters...LOL
he's beautiful. How did you train him? Just constantly talking to him? Do you recomend a bird like this for a family with a small child and dog? My dog is a beagle and very sweet. Maybe I can teach the bird to say "Shut up Hershey"
Are macaws good pets? I have always wanted one and hope to get one once my kids are older. They seem really smart and lovable, if trained properly. :-)
We have 3 Scarlets & they are a different kind of pet. If you look at "pet" as comparing to a cat or dog, then, no...they do not make a good pet.
Parrots, (especially the larger ones) are very loud, messy & demand attention constantly. You can not (should not) skip a day cleaning cages, water/ food bowls & you have to have a sitter to take over for vacation time or no vacation.
Be prepared for a lifetime commitment...& be prepared for someone to care for them after you die, as they may out live you..
They are a lot of work, but the most wonderful companions in the world....there is no "pet" like a parrot....they are the most amazing, most intelligent & best little creatures out there!!!
Don't take their care lightly though, The commitment of owning a parrot is not to be taken lightly...otherwise the bird suffers being either rehomed or improperly cared for.
@greyburd1 I can't get my CAG to eat any fresh fruits or veggies. She loves things apple flavored but hates apples. I couldn't imagine getting her to eat pumpkin. Was it canned or fresh?
The eyes that everyone is talking about is eye pinning and it is a type of body language. It is usually when a bird is interested in something, my parakeet does it all the time when he is excited. It can also indicate happiness, curiosity, or aggression. With aggression you will also see other signs, like lunging, or a warning noise. Humans do it also but it is not as easily seen by others.
