Great review----the microphone leaves a lot to be desired--- I can hardly hear what you are saying---don't what you were using at the beginning of the video, but the sound quality was superior to the lifcam cinema. Wonder how it compares with Logitech as far as sound quality goes?
Great review----the microphone leaves a lot to be desired--- I can hardly hear what you are saying---don't what you were using at the beginning of the video, but the sound quality was superior to the lifcam cinema.
Oh hello Chris! I was looking for a new webcam today and found this camera so I wanted a review of it and you're here reviewing it. I realised after being on STOked that my webcam mic was on instead of my headset... >.>
Also that my camera performs crappy in low light. I'm tempted to buy this one as it's quite cheap on Amazon.co.uk atm.
I am using this cam on Linux ubuntu 10.4, I can use it with "Cheese Webcam Booth" but the sound is not working. I am currently working an how to address this.
When sitting at your desk you will see that the Auto Focus has not found you but the background is in focus? I am curious about this... I will check out other reviews to see if this is the same. Thanks
Okay now I am seriously confused, I want a good HD cam & I am tossing up between this one and the Creative Live! Cam Socialize HD. I want to be able to use it on Skype & Windows Live Messenger........ and also maybe making videos. Argh ! Didnt think it would be such a hard decision.
hi mate, just got this cam in the mail today and having a hard time recording in sd and hd at veiwable framerates. what are your pc specs and what recording software do you use??
Does ANYBODY know which camera works best for Windows Live messenger?
The current one i have does not seem to work for some reason.
I haven't seen my new born baby because i am out of the country because of working reasons and i wanted to know which Cam to buy that is best for video chatting on windows live messenger?
If it's an autofocus cam, then I would rather buy one that stays focused on the person and not on the background... Nice, a blurred person on a sharp background :p
Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or higher (Excluding Windows XP 64-bit); minimum: Intel Dual-Core 1.6 GHz or higher, 1 GB of RAM; recommended: Intel Dual-Core 3.0 GHz or higher, 2 GB of RAM
hey, i want to record me playing piano with this camera but the auto focus is changing focus every 5 seconds, the whole screen keeps going blurry. check my existing videos to see the distance I am from the camera. but this is ridiculous, any help?
Every review I'm seeing of this is giving off that weird humming noise, and I get it too. When you recorded on OS X it didn't give you that though. Any solutions to that that you may have found?
i just received microsoft webcam cinema for mother's day, my computer is an windows xp i can't get the microphone to work and i can see people i try to connect with but they can't see me. do i need to upgrade to windows 7 for this device to work . please help me if you can. the people i try to connect with have windows 7. i use oovoo and skype.
I also think it's an awesome webcam. I'm using it with Skype/MSN and also with the camfrog program (pro version) and all the people that i do videochatting tell me they are amazed by the picture quality. I just hope that native 720p videochat will soon be available for MSN and skype. I definitely think it's one of the best 720p webcam available. Also u can set the mic to 48000Khz 16bit DVD quality audio.
I'm looking for a good webcam to livestream conferences and forums, and it has been hard to find info on these types of cameras. Who knew that youtube would have better info than cnet?
If you have the new software for it, with "truecolor+ClearFrame Technology", you turn that off by unchecking it, and click on Properties below, from there, click on the Camera Control tab at the top, and simply uncheck the check mark in the box beside Focus.
hey i just bought this and everytime i go to record a video through the software that came with, it flips my video upside down...have you ever seen that happen???? please get back to me im going crazy i might bash this fucking thing with a baseball bat soon.
I am currently using AMD AthlonX2 5000+ 2GB and the HD mode is a bit slower than in this video. When I'm on AIM this thing just eats up processing power I have a hard time watching videos or playing games when this webcam is on. Id recommend getting a webcam that doesn't use as much power.
@rzimmer1 Like you would with any mic, you go under recording devices and set your default microphone or disable unused microphones (such as built-in mics on laptops)
Software 99% of the time has the option to choose your recording device!
Don't be fooled by the single USB connection, the Webcam and Microphone are still considered 2 different devices, I use my Microsoft 720p HD-5000 Webcam with a TurtleBeach X11 Microphone! (uses microphone jack)
@rzimmer1 i opened the mic and took the mic out of there so now when i use a program like for example skype i just go in the settings and change the mic to the mic i have other than the mic on the web cam hope that helps
hey I just bought this webcam and my computer doesn't seem to support any resolution higher than 640x480. All resolutions higher than that have a little warning logo to the right of them. Anyone know reasons why the hd settings do not work well on my computer?
Your computer isn't powerful enough to handle HD mode. I have an AMD AthlonX2 5000+ 2.6GHz and although I can use HD mode, it constantly tells me I have low system performance.

which one is better you think?? haha im thinking of getting one my self! ugh! so many webcams which one is the best!! Perfect! thas what i want money doenst matter ..well alittle , hundred bucks is max i go.
@JoshuaWCU XP Service Pack 2 and above are supported, but not the 64-bit version. I'm sure it does work with the 64-bit, though. It's just not supported.
You might want to manually adjust your settings because you're lights are broadcasting you more on the hot side (too bright). I love the integration and how you can easily use the effects in Live Messenger and it has an array of settings to adjust.
Yea there is. Microsoft webcams always sucked. They can't make their mic's better. Ya thats a standard high pitched noise you hear in microsoft webcams. If you want a great webcam stick with the logitech quickcam pro 9000/webcam pro 9000. you can find it on sale at bestbuy or even online. Trust me its worth the money. I've been owning mine for 2 years it still works and is fantastic, Logitech Webcams are quality.
@ampix0 I don't see why you could not use an external mic, I'm assuming all you would need to do is go into the control panel and click on the sounds icon and change the mic input if it's set to the webcam's mic. I'm going to buy this webcam soon so I'll let you know if it is possible. Although, I'm almost 100% sure that it is.
@AllBellsPalsyInfo Yep, I got it off amazon! You can use an external mic! You just have to change the source with whatever program you are using. Ex: skype, microsoft live, etc.
how do i get my lifecam to work on my msn live? i had the same problem with my old logitech as well, in an msn window the "let other see i have a webcam" icon doesnt work and i cant have video calls. i can use the mic and perform sound chats but not video. please help im at my wits end!
In my own comparison, I found the logitech Orbit AF to have a lot better per pixel resolution detail and clarity. Its also far better in low light than the LifeCam Cinema. I searched all over the net for information reguarding the lifeCam cinema and found very little informative information from tech minded folks who know photography. The Cam is a decent web cam, but the logitech orbit AF is superior in image quality in every way accept frame rate at 800x600 and above.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dude WTF, why the fuck are you posting your Gay opinion on every dam review ya fag, Everyone already know that you just don't want people buying this cool webcam cuz you probly work for Logitech. FAG
BUZZZT WRONG! I was researching which webcam to buy, and unlike your ignorant ass, I approached it with an open mind and tried to share what I found because there was so little information about the microsoft cam, and some of it confusing and contradicting. SO... I BOUGHT both for myself, and tried them. I dont work for logitech but I am an expert in my field of 3D animator and filmmaking. Sorry if you hate intelligence. Go back to eating dirt and fucking your dead mom, you fucking slob..
Thinking about getting the "cinema" web cam but i was wondering if you knew how long the usb cord is? I cant find that spec anywhere! If its a considerable length you can just tell me that... I need something i can carry around the room.
ok so roughly 5 feet. thanks much! These camera's keep going down in price and now i've seen them for $49 bucks in some places. That measurement will definitely help me to figure out where to place my console.
Oh and thanks for letting me know about which length to get cause i saw a 15' cord for around 5 bucks somewhere and almost got it.
I'll take your word for it, but only because of the displays on the top there. They are like university certificates to me. Isn't USSE a campus somewhere? :)
So many Enterprise models...
YES.

Actually the microsoft cinema HD has better auto-focus. It's not the webcam it's utube.

From my knowledge, the software that comes with it will NOT allow you to use an alternative mic. But the quality and sound are great.

with the new logitech software, the QCP 9000 supports widescreen recordings.

Does the software allow you to record from an external mic?
ampix0 2 years ago 8
Good question, I'd like to know as well
tastethejace 2 years ago
Not with the software......
BenDover137 2 years ago
@ampix0 nope
Tomahawk1505 1 year ago
@ampix0 I don't see why you could not use an external mic, I'm assuming all you would need to do is go into the control panel and click on the sounds icon and change the mic input if it's set to the webcam's mic. I'm going to buy this webcam soon so I'll let you know if it is possible. Although, I'm almost 100% sure that it is.

@matt3DRC I actually just bought the kodak zi8 XP
ampix0 1 year ago
@matt3DRC Hi there, did you buy it becasue that was going to be my question about having an external mic.
Thanks.
AllBellsPalsyInfo 1 year ago
@AllBellsPalsyInfo Yep, I got it off amazon! You can use an external mic! You just have to change the source with whatever program you are using. Ex: skype, microsoft live, etc.

The microphone on it produces a low shrill.

Thanks and great review!
VAR1UM 2 years ago
the cord is about 1.5 metres.
please bear in mind that any cord over 5 metres will lose the signal, if you buy an extension cord make sure the total length is not over 5 mteres.
slippingontheslide 2 years ago
ok so roughly 5 feet. thanks much! These camera's keep going down in price and now i've seen them for $49 bucks in some places. That measurement will definitely help me to figure out where to place my console.
Oh and thanks for letting me know about which length to get cause i saw a 15' cord for around 5 bucks somewhere and almost got it.
Thanks again!
VAR1UM 2 years ago
just to add you can buy special 10 mtere leads from ebay for about £10 -£15.
slippingontheslide 2 years ago
ill look into that... and ill also push for a metric conversion over here in the states cause i had to convert all your figures over to Imperial. =P
VAR1UM 2 years ago
just time by 3 to get feet.
5 metres = 15 feet.
10 metres = 30 feet.
slippingontheslide 2 years ago
I'll take your word for it, but only because of the displays on the top there. They are like university certificates to me. Isn't USSE a campus somewhere? :)

Hey Chris,
Which version of OS X were you using, Leopard or Snow Leopard?
Also, no drivers needed to be installed?
Thanks.
