  • Does Batoning damage the knifes spine in any why if not does it hurt the edge

  • Is this knife hollow gound?, do you know if all entrek knives are hollow ground?

  • its for this purpose

  • How much did you get it for?

  • Now that's a solid knife.

  • kool knife

  • not the best way to use an expeve knife :D

  • just a question if your going to put the wood on a fire cant you just throw the whole board in at once ??? but ok good for large kindling

  • now thats a good fixed blade!

  • great knife great video

  • 3:52 hit his hand ... lol ouch.

  • lol feild testing video ands its snowing outside where i live

  • thats a really nice knofe love your vid keep it up

  • dont ever burn pressue treated wood jeff

ts really bad for the lungs

  • Awesome, I want that knife. Looks like a quality tool.

    5/5

  • why is the buck 110 lockback infamous?

  • its the most sold folder in america, or at least was..

  • do you still use the edgepro apex as your main sharpening system?

  • Cool vid Jeff! Looks like a good knife for a guy looking to replace his edc folder with something stronger. Never in my life would I take just this little knife into the woods. I'm sure you understand why!!

  • out of all the knives you have... i have necer seen a buck knife... do you have any buck knifes??

  • I havernt shown all the knives I own, in due time...but yes I own and have owned Buck models like the infamous 110 lockback as well as some newer models, I did show a review on the buck kalinga pro folder...

  • @cutlerylover And you did one of the Bantam on the beach.

  • He has some.

He did a review on a 110, 119 special, kalinga pro, buck bantam series, etc

  • Wasn't the 110 it was the 112.

  • Use the right tool for the job! (Not this tiny knife!) I would use an axe or a saw to split/cut the plank.

  • for this job the knife worked fine, its not ideal, but thats the pooijt nto see how far your tool can go and be used for...I woudl not pick this knife for this job, this is just a demonstartion to its capabilities...but it does exert less energy than any manual saw....

  • you got owned

  • @jcard21 Hes testing the knife, seeing how well it works and its condition... but yes idealy you would use an axe

  • dude you walk around with a badger in your pants thats hardcore.............

  • Great Job!

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN

    LOL

  • dude cool vids. if your by yourself and your camera is on a tripod....why is it always moving. i see movement in the frame? i don't care im just wondering..

  • Image stabilisation in the camera, mine does the same thing

  • Five Stars!!

  • QuietBearr, didn't you sell him this knife?

  • Yep

  • Could someone told me why this 440C ( that's what I got from their website) fixed blade have a price over 100 dollers? Didn't see where the point is. Is the knife heat treated extremely well or something?

  • I dont know why peopel think a knife with 440C isnt worth $100? there have been custom knives sold for over $800 and up with 440C used on them before with no complaints, lol....theres NOTHING wrong with 440C...

  • Errr, that's coz from my very limited knowledge of knives, the 440C made knives are usually more close less that half of 100$. Anyway, I'll modify my question, what makes this knife worth 100$ which seems higher than average fix knife about the same size?

  • this is the thickest version of a small fixed blade of its kind that I know of so if you want the thickest you will have to pay for it, so its cornered the market for REALLY THICK small fixed blades, lol...your paying for a good steel that was heat treated very well in addition to that your also getting a sub zero quenching priocess that not many other companies will do with 440C, it brings it to the next level of toughness as well as edge retention...so for $80-$100 you get a good fixed blade.

  • I'm starting to get into fixed blades more. Started with a little Hideaway knife, then the Izula, now I'm looking into a Spyderco Street Beat.

The Badger looks great, but I think I'd prefer something thinner and a little less heavy duty.

  • Look at the forester

  • I get so sick of hearing that question!!! "Why do you need all those knives?" or "What do you use those knives for? ...Killing People?" Grrrr...

  • What do you use a knife for? ha ha I don't know how someone could ask that. I use my knife absolutely everyday!

  • I know! I never used to carry a knife, but I started doing so about 6-8 months ago and I don't see how I could ever go back. My life is so much easier with a blade on my side all the time.

  • always fun to watch these. thanks Jeff

  • 5/5m8

  • great vids man -keep them up. I enjoy watching these testing ones

  • nice how much are thos knife

  • 82.00

  • hes showing you could do it if you had to, not that its ideal

  • If thats all someone has on them then thats what they have to use. I bought an Entrek Ranger and it's 9" in the blade. I would probably grab something smaller for other tasks.

  • the knife although not ideal for the job batoned just fine...nothing failed...

  • this knife looks cool but i think in its class.. the RAT RC3 blows it away....

  • this knife actuallty blows the rat3 away in battoning but lacks in the slicing department...its also easier to maintain than the rat3...it all depends what your lookign fro ina knife both are great options for a small fixed bladfe..

  • hey jeff!

i have a little project that you might want to do!

there's a guy on youtube called "greenpete" and he shows how to make a knife out of a metalworking file.

i was wondering if you might want to make videos on you making one?

  • You'd have to set up a forge, get an anvil or piece of railroad track, something in which to set the anvil or track (A tree stump would work), you'd have to get good steel if you wanted to make something usable, you'd then have to get a decent hammer, something to hold your water or oil for quenching, a metal container, and then you'd have to have good coal that can produce coke in which to use for the actual forging process.

So, not THAT simple to through together without work, dude.

  • Explain WHY it was fail? It may be a bit small for baton work, but not only did he succeed in doing it (showing if it needed to be done it could be), he did it on a plank of pressure treated wood.

  • And just to expand on that, think of the fact that he did a wood test prior to this, then a slicing test, THEN this test. I'd say it was far from fail, and if he didn't have a bigger knife he wouldn't have any worries.

  • what if he were in the woods and it was snowing... he needs fire but all the branches normal size(4"-5") and there are no 2x4's around

  • Well, that really depends on how much it's snowing, where he's getting the branches, and how wet they are.

But since I know what you're trying to say: All he has to do it shave. As soon as he starts shaving, which this knife would do just fine at, he can not only having enough dry tinder, but the pieces would get small to cut.

If you see this and claim he needs a bigger knife maybe you just need to learn how to use a smaller one.

  • that is just wow i didnt think you were going all the way

  • this looks like an honest buy!!! I might have to buy this some time.

  • great one . very impressed with knife .

  • Dude if you have the funds try an elk ridge knife. Im just having so much fun with elk ridge tatical knife. Its cheap so if you have the budget you should get one.

  • great vid

  • cool!!!!!!!! i want one

  • i want this knife!

  • That is a nice strong knife.

  • could u combine some of the past unshown field testing into a video please

  • Cool! I am not a knife enthusiast but your videos are very entertaining! 5/5

  • Jeff ur vids are awesome.. i love the reviews have seen them all XD

  • it looks great

  • I'd love to see the same test with some cheap tanto knife.

  • great idea! I was actually thinking of buying a few cheapo knives both folders and fixed blades to compare in videos trying different things to once and for all show why alot of us spend alot of monye on a good knife, lol..

  • i just blocked happycamper i asked why he was saying what he said and he starting messageing me he is a weirdo

  • wow now he is messageing me i dont know whats wrong with this guy he is messed up

  • I just blocked him...sorry if hes buggin you for standing up for me...

  • no prob not anymore i blocked him to

  • thejustinl1 is happycamper125 jeff block him

  • trust me im not

  • Does this knife throw off a lot of sparks from a firesteel?

  • Any knife will throw sparks from a firesteel. The striker material doesnt matter, it is how the material is, meaning if it is rough enough or not. A sharp edge or one with a lot of texture will throw sparks. The amount of sparks depends on the amount of ferro that you scrap off and with how much friction you do it with.

That is how a bic lighter works, its a small piece of ferro rod and the revolving piece is just textured to scrape some off.

  • Those knives should cost half what they do there 440c like cheap gerbers or something

  • The heat treatment is just as important as the blade steel. Besides, 440c is a good steel.

  • yea its decent but not for those prices you dont see 440c knives going for prices like those

  • Yes you do see them going for those prices when you take into account the heat treating of the steel. Its not cheap to do quality heat treating WITH sub zero stabilisation.

Also, 440C is very underated, because people (ahem) always think of it and compare it to other 440 series steels like 440A, and B.

It is a different steel, one of the original super steels.

Are you saying that in 20 years S30V will be total crap just because we invent better steels?

  • Gerbers dont use 440C they use 425M

Its not the steel its the heat treat. They are sub zero stabalised which is a pricey process.

Dont believe me, watch my testing vids of the survivor, chopped into a steel tube numerous times, leaving large cuts in it, and only had VERY slight chipping of the edge.

  • dont get me wrong they look nice i just wish they were something other than 440c there cool though

  • High carbon steels are superior, but that's not to say that 440c is all that bad.

  • That is what I thought when I first got it too, and I thought that until after I did my testing of it.

Seriously, it is a good steel, but its not just the steel, its the Heat and stabilisation that goes into it. It far surpasses other 440C blades, it surpasses some of my D2 for edge retention, and toughness far exceeds some of my "better" steels like 50100-B

  • the reason Im showing all these demos it to proive 440C gets bad rap and when done right they cna perfom well...as for gerber steel, its not even close to 440C...I know what your saying and why your saying it and I will address it when I do the review...but yes these days 440C is underrated for sure...and peopel see it as ebign poor and confusing it with knives just marked 440...440 could be anything in the 440 series, like 440A or 440B, and pooorly heat treated...

  • Not to mention 440J lol

  • exactly. lol

  • Oh, just thought of something, the Rat 3 is around $70-80 and made from 1095, a steel (that while I love it and it is a great steel), it is about 1/5 the price of 440C. That might help to explain the difference in price.

  • i think i would like them more if they were 1095 lol i didnt know 440c was more expensive than 1095

  • Much more expensive that 1095, 1095 is extremely cheap, the amount of 1095 in a Rat 3 is worth about $1.25 or so.

440C actually has many more carbides in it, and when combined with the sub zero stabilisation of austenite into martensite, all the way through the steel, it makes it very tough, yet still stronger than 1095.

1095 is a great steel, just simple and cheap to make.

Also, the micarta on a rat 3 costs about $8 maybe, likely less, so that means on a Rat 3, all but $10 is profit.

  • i dont know about that dude

  • then how much is the badger to make 15 bucks

  • 15 plus the waterjet cutting, plus things (same as on Rat too) like belts, prolly $5 per knife for belts, drill bits (maybe $2 per), the waterjet cutting is likely about $8 per, maybe $10, plus the hardware ($4), plus of course the time and effort of the maker to put the bevel and any grinding on, so while it may not take the cost in materials, you also have to consider the time.

but all this goes for the rat as well, I dont know if they are cut out or hand cut, my guess; laser or waterjet cut

  • i hear ya i have always liked the rat knives

  • same here man, just pointing out that they are not that much more than the comparable rats, and they are hand crafted in America (cost of labor higher here, Ray does it all himself, but still, a man has to eat and cant eat rice and beans like in china or india), and sub zero stabilised. (something Rats are not, making the 440C in Entreks IMO very comparable to 1095, if not better.

Sub Zero treatment is very important as it transforms the steel through and through, way more than just quenching.

  • you know what would be totally awesome a rat vs entrek video by cutlerylover non biased i hope maybe a rat 3 vs badger huh?

  • I would love to see that video!

  • i know full bore though not just easy stuff full on destruction test like those one dudes do like bending the blades standing on them thrashing them

  • noss4 type of test hairball

  • im sure there not cut by hand lol probably water or laser jet

  • Oh yea, and besides all that listed above, plus heat treating (about $5-10 per), and on the Entreks, sub zero stabalising, the most important part, which would be around 8-13 per.

  • how much is that knife?

  • $82.00

  • great vid thats a pretty tough knife for its size. and also, happycamper get a life dude seriously the knife community is no place for that kind of stuff.

  • awesome knife..

  • You probably already know this. but maybe use some lube on the blade like WD40. Just throwing it out there. Awesome little knife by the way. 5/5*s

    LATE.............

  • i still prefer the k-bar

  • tiny baton stick

  • Nice video. Still waiting to see you do a review of the Spyderco Para Military.

  • i love the look on that blade! thick, small and looks not threatening!!! i like it so far!! cant wait for the tabletop jeff!!

  • Sweet! Cant wait for the review

  • me 2 great job jeff

  • looks very nice, a bit short for batoning, but it seems to keep a nice edge, keep up the good work Jeff!

  • why dont you just block happycamper

  • lol I dont know...I mean I woudl normaly just block ghim but I thought I would give him a chance to explain...tyhese people expect to be blocked, not talked to, lol.

  • come on thejustinl1 you know you have tryed to private message me for youtube sex you want my heat seeking moisture missile dont you lover

  • whats the deal man? I mean yeah I get what your doing, but why? I eman it was funny the 1st few times but its getting old...I just dont know why exactly you do it, lol to get lauhgs, or get attention, to perhaps get out feelings online where no one knows you? Maybe your just being honest, lol...just throw me a bone (just an exopression no need to play with tho0se words) give me some insight as to why you do what you do...come on man explain it to me...its the least you can do...

  • i will throw you my bone all night jeff

  • dude that is so weak I even warned you not to use the phrase, I thought you were more creative than that...ya let me down man...

  • i dont think this guy has seen the kind of arsenal you have.....

  • Nice man great vids since im 3 i wanted to say whats a good knife that is cheap that i can use?

  • well thats a touch questiuon because there are no great cheap knives, but it all depends how much your going to use it, if your lookign for a fixed blade or folder and what you consider cheap?

  • I consider something with a low price range cheap.

So is there a knife that you have got for like 10 - 20 $ that you liked, that you would reccomend?

  • yeah thats pretty cheap, lol for a folder try a kabvar sozier or byrd FRN model for $20 each...youll like it and its a folder you can actually use without dulling too quickly or breakign easily...as for a fixed blades thats touhgt, not much out there thats worth buyign for $20..besides a mora...I have a review on them.

  • 3 years old?

  • Really love your vids dude. Keep up the great work.

  • very nice knive
