L had no intent of being good, nor was he trying to be evil. Catching Kira would mean stopping the world's most dangerous murderer. Legally speaking, that is the good thing. This was not L's intent. This is shown in his willingness to test the Death Note on an inmate. L's motivation was in his desire to beat Kira, to solve the case no one else could. They said L only takes up cases that interest him and nothing interested him more than beating this killer to prove yet again that he is the best.
my fav character is light. but every other character cmes close to my favorite because they are all awesome .although, my favorite was mikami until he f***ed up light's plan. GREAT GOING MIKAM (sarcasm)
@MgoHuNTeR he killed murder so he was nothing else than a murder the police, L, Near and mello said this as well, only kira thought that and the others just followed him (sry for my english)
This anime should have ended with L's death... I loved it till the end, but looking back it was never the same. And yeah, i would've been ok with Kira beating him... Its much better than Kira dying because his subordinates were incompetent
I seriously hate the fact that Near gets hated on because he either "Replaced L" or "Killed Light" Fangirls, and boys, whateves. Get over that, we all know a bad guy never wins in ANY series, do you really think he could kill L and get away with it?
As for Near replacing L, what else could happen ? L died, it was either Near took over in his place or let Light win. I think you guys should WANT to see Near beat Light and get him back for L. All he was doing was finishing off L's work. Simple.
@SaiyanPrincessBulla Light's not a BAD guy, it's just the thing he was trying to achieve is impossible for a human to pull off. If we are going to have a god, it needs to be a GOD not a human with a special notebook.
But yes, all Near was doing was finishing L's work. Near shouldn't be getting hated on. If they hate Near, then they hate L's last master plan to defeat Kira.
Pfffft.. Light, not evil? he made 1000000000000's of people kill themself or have a heartattack just because they were in the way or are ''evil.'' He's a mad man. how bad a person is, you would NEVER had the right to do such incridible evil things.
@RayTV100 As I said before, if we are going to have a god, it needs to be a god, not a human. Light is human and because of that, to keep his goal, he had to break it and do evil deeds. A real god, with the same initial intentions as light, would have no need to stray from that goal, even with L and the world searching for him. Light is no god. L is no saint either. L knew well Misa loved light more than anything so L wanted to use her like a puppet. Like Light did to the criminals he killed.
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 I am aware, and I stated what he did to kill those who got in his way WAS evil. By trying so hard to stay good, he had to do deeds of evil. It was not his initial intention. But he did it. Most people would if they knew if they kept killing criminals, they would die as well. But Death Note is all about peoples opinions of justice. We will all have our own view of what is evil and what is not. Although I will admit, Light did strays from good after L died.
@Zigelhh07 he killed people, thats bad, just because they were criminals doesnt make it good, revenge and justice mean the same thing, punishing people for what they did in the past, revenge is bad, light is a bad guy
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 I don't know the whole discussion going on here, but I do have to say this.
Who defines Good and Bad? Who determines what's right and what's wrong? It's not you, it's not me, nor is it anybody else. Good and evil, right and wrong, they are all terms describing a general agreement describing actions taken by various individuals. In reality, although most people believe the general concept of right and wrong, nobody can officially say something is right or wrong, good or bad.
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 Personally, I follow the general ideas, that is that killing people is wrong and bad, and I do believe that Light is evil. Although his intentions were based towards creating a good and right world, the way he went about it caused the reality to be extremely different than the idea. But even with that said, nobody, not you, not I, can say that Light was good or evil. We humans haven't the right, nor the power to say whether something is right or wrong. That's all I'll say.
@GamesOplenty what are you talking about ? we have both the right and the power to say whether something is right or wrong, if it hurts people its wrong, that simple
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 We have the power and right to give our opinion on right and wrong, but we can't define it ourselves, it's out of our hands. The fact is, there are people out there who think that hurting people for a goal such as Light's is not wrong, and is in fact right. While I don't agree with that, I understand that it's their opinion, as Right and Wrong have no true meaning, other than to give our own beliefs an idea.
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 That's coming from your opinion on right and wrong. And based on my opinion on right and wrong, you'd be the wrong one by believing than you can choose right or wrong. In basic terms, Right and Wrong all just comes down to opinion.
@GamesOplenty no thats not true, its thoughts like that that make people think certain actions are okay when they are not, i know i have the correct definition because i have analyse right and wrong and people who say its an opinion haven't and the defintion of as long as it doesnt hurt anyone it is okay, can anyone argue with that?
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 It's your opinion, as well as various others opinions. Personally, I believe in many things that the general populace believes in, and I don't believe in "as long as it doesn't hurt anyone it's okay." That isn't true, at least in the opinion of the general population.
Opinions are ideas of people as individuals, and general opinions are opinions that are shared amongst a general group. But not everybody, which is why there is no true right and wrong.
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 You're taking from him, but I'm saying in, say, a store where nothing inside has any real value to the owner, besides being part of the store. He won't be hurt emotionally or physically by you stealing, (which are the two main pains that I believe in, but this isn't the place to discuss that. I have a lot of knowledge on this subject, by the way). He might be a little upset, but he won't be hurt. But it's still not something that you should do.
@VINNNNNNAYYYYYYYY2 But even then, you need to see that there are people who don't believe in emotional pain. In their opinion it doesn't exist, and therefor stealing something would never hurt anybody regardless, unless you were forced to hurt somebody. I don't believe in that, but that's just another opinion that coincides with right and wrong.
@GamesOplenty Emotional pain does exist. It is measurable. To claim that emotional pain doesn't exist is to claim that the leading scientists in the field of neuroscience are wrong x) Studies even show that physical pain and psychological pain may have the same underlying neurological mechanisms. It is not a matter of belief it is a matter of education.
@Maatt28 It's an education and a belief. I'm not one of the people who doesn't believe in emotional pain, because I feel it all the time. But people can believe that any fact is an opinion as well, even if it's proven.
Let's take a simple example: I wear glasses, we can prove this because they rest on my ears and the bridge of my nose. However there are those who might say that I'm simply holding the glasses.
Education, although it can be proven, is taken as different opinions by individuals.
@GamesOplenty Bad example. I wear the glasses and I hold the glasses are just two ways of phrasing that you are in possesion of glasses (third way to phrase it).
If something is based on research and sound arguments there is only one sound reason you should believe otherwise: There exists evidence that suggests otherwise.
You cannot choose not to believe in something that is obviously true. And if you do there is only 1 explanation:
You don't have the mental capacity to grasp this truth.
@GamesOplenty This lead me back to my original point. It is simply a lack of education, and if you are not able to grasp this truth, maybe YOU are in lack of education ; )
@Maatt28 I'd like to hear your reasoning for that. Like I've said, I have education in this. Possibly more than you, possibly less, but I've had plenty of education in this.
@SaiyanPrincessBulla You said it! TT_TT I don't like how so many people hate him too just because he finished L's job. Near is amazing, and L is just the same, amazing, it's not impossible to think both!
@SaiyanPrincessBulla I actually saw L as the bad guy, Light only wanted to change the world for the greater good. L wanted the world to stay bad. Any real person that wanted peace would have agreed with light. Also light sacrifices his own personal life friends, family, his possible bright future. Only to help humanity. While L never sacrificed anything because he never had any of those.
L did not want the world to stay bad, he saw Kira as a murderer and needed to bring him to justice. I agree, Light only wanted what was best for the world, but he got lost along the way. He would kill anyone who stood in his way. He was a genius. But his sense of justice was so strong that he would go as far to kill. He created a world of fear. L, on thee other hand, didn't sacrifice, but he was devoted to pursue and capture Kira, because he only saw Kira as a murderer.
@TheAnimedetective A murderer with a god-complex. Like Ryuk stated early on in the series, eventually, the only one with a bad personality left would be Light had he succeded... What Light wished for was really naive and childish, like you said, a world full of fear would have been created... With Light as its 'benevolent' dictator...
@joey199412 Wrong. L sacrificed his own life and his team to catch Kira, its not that L wanted the world to stay bad, it's just that he wanted Kira to be catched from killing more people.
@ScaryMonstahh In the early episodes, he's obviously Kira. He didn't call himself that though, it was the people who were aware of him who called him Kira.
I hate how Matt has more fans that Near, and Near was more important that pretty much half of the cast...excluding L, Light, Ryuk, maybe Mello, but probably not.
i'm in an organization known as the N.E.S (Near expert service) our job is to locate and counter All the haters who hate near. as for me i'm in the center of this organization you can address me a J!
I like Near and his theme. Of course he will never measure up to L, but he helped defeat the evil genius who killed him. I don't understand the hate on Near, he's super intelligent and he actually really liked Mello, even though Mello hated him.
@TheNikasabbather He wanted to change it but he ended up becoming power obsessed and he started to kill innocent people, including L, the best character ever.
@ScaryMonstahh Did you know Near's real name is Nate River. This is found out when you see the names Mikami wrote in the notebook on the final episode. It isn't mentioned in dialogue so you have to pause when the scene shows the names written then it is implied. He did a good job catching Kira in the anime although R.I.P. in the manga. You've seen the alt ending right?
I know a lot of people (including N himself) said he wasnt as smart as L, but to be fair his plan brought down Kira. Even if part of it was Mello, it was N that thought up the part that included him. And this is N at around 14, whereas L was much older.
@swamdono Even though that is true, I think L is still a lot smarter than Near. Near got Light only because Light was beginning to think he was some kind of invincible god, and he let his guard down. Near took advantage of that, that's all.
As I mentioned to ScaryMonstahh, it was probably L's maturity that gave him ideas outside of a standard factual analysis. While this worked in indentifying Kira, and ultimately Nears capture of him, it also led to his own death.
So in my opinion its still open for plenty of debate as for whether L's methods were better, as L's way worked - and led to his ow death. But Nears way wouldnt have been possible without L's sacrifice - but didnt lead to his own death.
@swamdono I think you are making a crucial mistake here. Up until the point that L confiscated the Death Note from Higuchi the rules were clear: Kira needs a name and potentially a face to kill. Light however changed the rules, which was, while smart, cheating and led to L's death.
Furthermore Light had a being on his side which could kill L on command, which basically would make no difference anyway as it was on Misa's side...
@swamdono Absolutely! L is more intelligent than Light is, Light just had the circumstances in his favor because he could blackmail Rem into kiling L. Simple as that. Near on the other hand had a full comprehension of how the Note worked + all the hints and information L had left him, so naturally, he had a head start. So yes, intelligence was not the only factor that was going on here.
@swamdono No I totally agree that Near was cool, just not as good as L. I mean, Near lacked emotion and the boldness that L had. Which probably saved his life, and unfortunately took L's.
True, and as a speculative opinion, I think as L grew older he realised that looking at his work with exclusive objectivity wasnt always the best thing. And as for his boldness, endagering his own life to reveal Kiras identity worked, but was probably the beginning of the end for him.
I don't know why people hate light so much. I mean c'mon guys the series needs a heartless cruel dude, or else it wouldn't be any fun at all. Also its cool when the main character is an antagonist for once lol
I am on L's side 100%, but Light did have the possibility to win. If he wasn't so confident about killing L at the beginning (when he killed Lind "L" Taylor), L would've had no idea where Kira was, making it almost impossible to narrow him down to Light.
in the second episode, i couldnt decide if i rooted for Light or for L , but then i realized that Light its a bitch, and L should have won, but then the anime had an ending......... too bad.
Well he does very VERY stupid and avoidable mistakes at the beginning: snooping the police and acting based on the infos he got was totally useless and allowed L to trace back to him. Ok he did that because of the panic, he was afraid that L could tighten the noose more and more after the false L
@MetalTwitch No he did that to draw L toward him. It was bate. In order for one to get the other, it's only tactical that they had to close in on each other. That means giving each other some room to make a move.
@MetalTwitch So basically the beginning of death note was a game of chicken between Light and L. Both would intentionally take risks and whoever made the fatal mistake first would be the loser.
public murder which allowed him to deduce that the killer was "probably a student in the largest Japan region" (Wooa better watch out Light!!). Seriousley, he was afraid for nothing, if Light had just kept on using the note as always, there would have been no way for anyone to get further in the investigation. Well, and there would have been no awesome story it's true :d. Afterwards he manage things quite good, but come on, with a killing magic book whose you are the only guy who knows the
I agree with you totally ... Light aint justice nor is he a genius at all. He becomes crazy on the day he gets the death note. About L I feel sad because he had bad cards in this game ... although he could've simply checked the handwriting of Kira with those of the suspects^^ Maybe he did not want to believe that Light is such a bad and crazy person.
rules, it's kinda normal. So it's also the reason why it would have been really disappointing that Light win at the end (even though we are on his side). So in conclusion, he's not stupid, but he's not as clever as many fans say, blinded by the fear to be discovered and by the will to controle everything, even the least important details, and after all, it's what make the story interesting.

If something is based on research and sound arguments there is only one sound reason you should believe otherwise: There exists evidence that suggests otherwise.
You cannot choose not to believe in something that is obviously true. And if you do there is only 1 explanation:
You don't have the mental capacity to grasp this truth.
Maatt28 4 days ago
@GamesOplenty This lead me back to my original point. It is simply a lack of education, and if you are not able to grasp this truth, maybe YOU are in lack of education ; )
Maatt28 4 days ago
@Maatt28 I'd like to hear your reasoning for that. Like I've said, I have education in this. Possibly more than you, possibly less, but I've had plenty of education in this.
GamesOplenty 4 days ago
@GamesOplenty You have my reasoning. Look further down. I posted 2 comments, and the bottom one should be read first.

@SaiyanPrincessBulla You said it! TT_TT I don't like how so many people hate him too just because he finished L's job. Near is amazing, and L is just the same, amazing, it's not impossible to think both!
LinkLove47310 1 week ago in playlist Favorite videos
@SaiyanPrincessBulla I actually saw L as the bad guy, Light only wanted to change the world for the greater good. L wanted the world to stay bad. Any real person that wanted peace would have agreed with light. Also light sacrifices his own personal life friends, family, his possible bright future. Only to help humanity. While L never sacrificed anything because he never had any of those.
joey199412 1 week ago
@joey199412
TheAnimedetective 1 week ago
@TheAnimedetective A murderer with a god-complex. Like Ryuk stated early on in the series, eventually, the only one with a bad personality left would be Light had he succeded... What Light wished for was really naive and childish, like you said, a world full of fear would have been created... With Light as its 'benevolent' dictator...
AnotherPanther 1 week ago
@joey199412 Wrong. L sacrificed his own life and his team to catch Kira, its not that L wanted the world to stay bad, it's just that he wanted Kira to be catched from killing more people.

I hate how Matt has more fans that Near, and Near was more important that pretty much half of the cast...excluding L, Light, Ryuk, maybe Mello, but probably not.

Also am I the only one who thinks Near is mostly copying L in nearly everything he does?

I like Near and his theme. Of course he will never measure up to L, but he helped defeat the evil genius who killed him. I don't understand the hate on Near, he's super intelligent and he actually really liked Mello, even though Mello hated him.

ScaryMonstahh 1 month ago
@ScaryMonstahh Did you know Near's real name is Nate River. This is found out when you see the names Mikami wrote in the notebook on the final episode. It isn't mentioned in dialogue so you have to pause when the scene shows the names written then it is implied. He did a good job catching Kira in the anime although R.I.P. in the manga. You've seen the alt ending right?
MrIAMNOTANOOB 1 month ago
@MrIAMNOTANOOB I knew that Nate was his real name, and I have seen one alternate ending, but I didn't know he died in the manga??
ScaryMonstahh 1 month ago
@ScaryMonstahh Of course he does. Light wins after all.
MrIAMNOTANOOB 1 month ago
@ScaryMonstahh
I know a lot of people (including N himself) said he wasnt as smart as L, but to be fair his plan brought down Kira. Even if part of it was Mello, it was N that thought up the part that included him. And this is N at around 14, whereas L was much older.
swamdono 2 weeks ago
@swamdono Even though that is true, I think L is still a lot smarter than Near. Near got Light only because Light was beginning to think he was some kind of invincible god, and he let his guard down. Near took advantage of that, that's all.
crystalshard100 2 weeks ago
@crystalshard100
But Nears way wouldnt have been possible without L's sacrifice - but didnt lead to his own death.
swamdono 2 weeks ago
@swamdono I think you are making a crucial mistake here. Up until the point that L confiscated the Death Note from Higuchi the rules were clear: Kira needs a name and potentially a face to kill. Light however changed the rules, which was, while smart, cheating and led to L's death.
Furthermore Light had a being on his side which could kill L on command, which basically would make no difference anyway as it was on Misa's side...
AnotherPanther 1 week ago
@AnotherPanther
Oh, so youre saying there are more factors that led to L's death (and Nears victory) other than intelligence alone?...
swamdono 1 week ago
@swamdono Absolutely! L is more intelligent than Light is, Light just had the circumstances in his favor because he could blackmail Rem into kiling L. Simple as that. Near on the other hand had a full comprehension of how the Note worked + all the hints and information L had left him, so naturally, he had a head start. So yes, intelligence was not the only factor that was going on here.
AnotherPanther 1 week ago
@swamdono No I totally agree that Near was cool, just not as good as L. I mean, Near lacked emotion and the boldness that L had. Which probably saved his life, and unfortunately took L's.
ScaryMonstahh 2 weeks ago
@ScaryMonstahh

Well he does very VERY stupid and avoidable mistakes at the beginning: snooping the police and acting based on the infos he got was totally useless and allowed L to trace back to him. Ok he did that because of the panic, he was afraid that L could tighten the noose more and more after the false L
MetalTwitch 1 month ago in playlist I
@MetalTwitch No he did that to draw L toward him. It was bate. In order for one to get the other, it's only tactical that they had to close in on each other. That means giving each other some room to make a move.
NearVSMello 1 month ago
