ESTOS SON LOS 5 LATINOS MUY MACHOS!!!! JAJAJAJA

  • el mejor de todos los tiempos, SALVADOR SANCHEZ

  • weres Cesar Chavez, Finito lopez, Marquez?

  • Buchanan was not a hard puncher and would have gotten beat up little by little chavez would have gone to the body and slowed him down and his boxing ability. Jose luis Ramirez fought chavez late in his career, he was champ but not in his glory days. I take ramirez over chavez had it been fought earlier.

  • Buchanan was NOT 5'7" in height; clearly a mistake just look at his height advantage over Duran. By all means Buchanan could punch a bit and knew how to use his height and reach. I cannot see any way Chavez could of beaten him. Ortiz vs Chavez? wouldn't of been good for Chavez and that's a certainty.

  • Vs duran its similar, duran was a more complete fighter though and had the ferocity to beat chavez but i dnt think he would have ko'd him nor arguello not at the lighter weights, i go with duran on points. Ortiz was a tough mtf strong as a bull, and i think he ws a bit big for chavez. I do recall ortiz ducking Jose Angel Napolez, not that it has anything to do with this but just came to mind. Ismael laguna was awesome as well. Ken buchanan i dnt think would have beaten chavez, just too tough.

  • reading all the below you guys been going at it lol good conversations. Chavez was tough as nails didnt have a chin but a brick in its place had many other attributes. it would have been a tough fight vs arguello as arguello had a great right hand which was a punch chavez was vulnerable to, arguello had alot of stamina, wouldnt go down easy and could dish out as much as he would take, close fight its a toss up.

  • Arguello was a murderous puncher who would of enjoyed a tremendous height advantage over Chavez; IMO he would of stopped Chavez. The 1 antidote to any of these fighters was Duran; even though him and Chavez were roughly the same height; physically they were completely different specimens. Duran had broader, thicker shoulders giving him extra reach; which came in handy when past his prime and venturing into heavier divisions. Can you honestly see Chavez being effective vs Leonard or Cuevas?

  • and I'm just talking about lightweights? Ortiz, Buchanan, Arguello, Laguna would of all defeated Chavez!

  • I respectfully disagree. Chavez couldn't have beaten all the fighters he did--and he beat everyone they put in front of him until age caught up w/him--if he was "terribly 1 dimensional." Chavez would've punished Ortiz and put him away. Ken Buchanan and Ismael Luguna? They're not in Chavez's class and don't deserve any further comment. Only Arguello would've stood a chance but he would've been hard-pressed to keep JC Superstar off him at 135lbs or 140lbs. The dude was great. Give him his due.

  • I beg to differ! Ortiz, Laguna, Buchanan not in Chavez's league? the only knock on Buchanan is that he ran into Duran; Laguna was a masterful boxer and fought a who's who in opposition; as for Ortiz? give him his due. I respect Chavez he's a warrior & most always came in shape; but his competition is questionable? and that's putting it lightly. Constantly struggled vs slick boxers? had Sal Sanchez not died? there would be no Chavez; Sal would of handed him his 1st loss.

  • Chavez's competition was questionable? Have you ever heard of Juan LaPorte, Rocky Lockridge, Ruben Castillo, Meldrick Taylor, Edwin Rosario, and Jose Luis Ramirez, just to name a few? All-timers don't often fight all-timers. You know why that is? Because those who are really special are once-in-a-generation fighters who beat everybody and so are named. So go ahead and cite Benny Leonard, Joe Gans, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran and other great ones. But don't cite Buchanan, Laguna, et al.

  • of coarse I heard of LaPorte & Castillo! but what I remember most is when they where featherweights going to war and getting softened up by the great Sal Sanchez? Let's not forget that Chavez didn't even debut at 1 of the original 8 weight divisions? it's not that difficult to be a "once in a generation fighter" when your competition is quite up to par? the point with Buchanan & Laguna? they would of defeated Chavez! who seldom fought men taller than himself and always struggled vs good boxers.

  • Chavez was 5' 7 1/2", same as Buchanan; Laguna was 5' 9". As for his alleged struggles against good boxers, I don't know what you're talking about. He beat all kinds of fighters. Ring Magazine rated Chavez the 18th greatest fighter of the last 80 years. But you have your opinion and I have mine. Thanks for the exchange.

  • true about Ring Magazine's ranking; and I realize the seldom "fighting taller fighters" comment isn't entirely or really Chavez's fault? my opinion is frankly, that Chavez wouldn't of fared very well vs. many of the Duran opponents of the 70's e.g. Lampkin, Buchanan, DeJesus and even the slick Viruet's? Thanks for the feedback.

  • funny how Buchanan is listed as 5'7 1/2" yet he stands clearly taller than Duran who's that same size? even in an interview explaining the controversial low blow ending to their encounter; Duran states: "it only happened because Buchanan is so tall". These stat's are so varied and skewed at times? kind of like how they listed DelaHoya as 5'11" for the longest time when clearly he's NOT?

  • You are wrong my friend, Chavez Did lose in his prime. Pernell Whitaker clearly beat him!

  • @yousell peawee didnt do enough to win just like meldrick taylor. you must take it to the champ and fight the entire fight and not clown around. peawee clowned too much.

  • Tito Trinidad was a throw back fighter and at 147 was among the hardest punchers. Speaking of Puerto Rican's there's alot of mention of Gomez who was so overrated! he debuted at 122 not even 1 of the original 8; what does that tell you? Now Carlos Ortiz was possibly the 2nd greatest lightweight; awesome fighter! Wilfred Benitez was a masterful boxer if he only had a punch he'd of been truly 1 of the great ones! none-the less a great fighter.

  • have you watched gomez fights? have you seen his skills? the movement? the punching power? how can you say he was overrated? he is going down in history as one of the best fighters period at his weight and in his prime he was invincible he had to go up in weight to find his first loss.

  • did you see what happened when he moved up just 4lbs. vs Sanchez? and then Azumah? up in weight? it's only 4lbs? many of the fighters Gomez faced were bantamweights.

  • 4 pounds means something its not just only 4 pounds...plus he went up to fight those other two legends at higher weight clases so it wasnt that he moved up and got beat by a bum! bottom line gomez is one of the greatest fighters in boxing history period

  • when you don't debut in 1 of the original 8 weight divisions it says something? I'm not down playing the 4lbs increment but some of these fighters start in jr/super divisions because they can't hack it in the real ones. Case & point Pryor if he went down 5lbs he'd get crushed by Duran and if he gained 7lbs he'd be humiliated be Leonard. So all of a sudden he builds legend status by defeating and old Cervantes and old blown-up featherweight Arguello? to a degree same is true of Gomez!

  • gomez beat everyone in his weight division good names good solid fighters he had a great style he went up in weight against legends and lost thats fine..and what u say about not debuting in one of the original weights doesnt mean anything u debut in the weight division that is most confortable for you so that really doesnt help what ur saying

  • yes & no? in the lighter weights it's not that dramatic the weight shed/gains; not like when the light heavyweight division didn't exist? now that was unfair for small heavyweights and large middleweights.

  • I agree with many of your comments re: Gomez and the original weight divisions. But I disagree strongly w/your comments about Chavez. He fought everyone and was at or near Duran's level at 135lbs when he stepped up and crushed Rosario. He was a hard man, deceptively quick, an underrated technician, and had crunching power. That sounds like Duran, who, in my opinion, is the greatest Hispanic fighter ever. But Chavez was close...damn close.

  • thanks for considering my comments! Chavez is very popular in recent memory and obviously has a very large following but looking at it objectively the man was terribly 1 dimensional. Rosario was a competent fighter but can you really say he's one of the great ones? You say Chavez was "close"? at being 1 of the greatest? but have you seen Carlos Ortiz? he, IMO would of beaten JCC handily. What about Arguello at 135? even he was a force, and hit much harder than Chavez; & would of TKO'd him too.

  • i still think that if Sanchez wouldnt of died at such an early age he would of been one of the, if not, the best fighter of all time!! ive never seen anybody with the same physical and mental conditioning that Sanchez would step in the ring with, he was the definition of the Complete Package in boxing, speed, stamina, power, technical, and the calmness that he would had in the ring!!

  • Duran is the greatest lightweight who ever lived. We saw how truly great Duran was when he rose in weight and met and defeated much larger men. That fight against Barkley in '89 was unbelievable. I can't see Chavez or any other fighter accomplishing that or even challenging Hagler the way Duran did. Chavez was a great counter-puncher. Duran was better. Chavez could punch. Duran could punch harder. Chavez was a technician. Duran was a better, more subtle, technician.

  • salvador sanchez the best mexican boxer, and at only 23 he would of been better than every latino boxer to step in the ring, too bad he dies so early!!! R.I.P. Chava!!

  • Duran is not just the best latin boxer bout he figures like the 5th greatest of all time, (se eny experts list, see ESPN list, see Boxing magazines list)

  • Sal Sanchez was awesome and if he'd of been around there would of been NO-Chavez! as for the greatest Latin fighter? it is, and always has been Roberto Duran! Carlos Monzon was close to perfection & in the opinion of many experts the greatest middleweight! Arguello was awesome & probably the best @ 126. Jose Napoles at welter was arguably the best also. Olivares at 118 was among the best but Jofre could lay claim to that as well! Don' t believe the hype with fighters like Chavez, Gomez & Pryor?

  • trinidad is a legend he has a very impressive reume of quality fighters he's beaten

  • This video was made years ago so of course tito and cotto wont be on there you newbie boxing fans.
