  • Great idea!

  • Jeebus as if expert village wernt crap enuff they got anoying ads @ begining of vids well dun.

  • I get about 3 or 4 suger pumkins per plant. I do not pinch the vines at all since they are hollow, I'm not sure what it would do to the plant. This method of growing works for any vining plant, even tomatoes. The great thing is, once you get the set-up done, it lasts for years.

  • What you can do is sink two 4x4 posts across from each other, about 5 feet across from each other. Then take some cheap wire grid fencing and stretch it tightly between the two 4x4 posts. Make sure the fencing is stretched tightly and secured well. You can go all the way up the posts with the sections of fencing.

This will create a strong and permanent place for you to grow your plants. As the vines grow, train them up the fencing and secure them with old panty hose strips.

  • I did this with my sugar pumkins this year, and they did really well.

  • Can you do this in raised bed gardens too? Please give me as much info as you can

  • Yes, you can grow vertically in raised beds. You would need to dig a hole on either side of the bed, on the outside of the box/raised bed. Then place your support poles in the holes. Attach wire fencing or chicken wire, or even a zig-zag pattern of several rows of twine to each post for your plants to grow up.

    Good luck!

  • I don't have much space, but I'd love to grow pumpkins and cucumbers. So I was wondering, can I apply this technique to them too?

  • Yes, you can, I would suggest growing a smaller pumpkin, such as a sugar pumpkin...they make wonderful pies, great beaked with butter, and are also great mashed like potatoes. This would be a perfect application for a gardener with little space.

    Good luck!

  • Baked with butter, not beaked...sorry about the typo.
